  • Patent number: 8096392
Abstract: A light weight brake assembly for bicycles is disclosed. Some embodiments of the invention are designed to enhance assembly adjustability, for example to accommodate geometric variations that occur with various bicycle frame and wheel geometries. Some embodiments of the invention are designed to allow for a brake leverage that can be non-linear and capable of multiplying during brake actuation so that braking force increases more rapidly than brake lever force applied by the user. Some embodiments of the invention are designed to provide a brake sensitivity that is adjustable in use. Some embodiments provide for a quick-release functionality, for example by quickly increasing the gap between the two brake pads so that the wheel can be easily/quickly removed.

Information for enabling access to a Medical Implant Verification Account (MIVA) of a patient is one the card. An image showing a medical implant as implanted within a body of the patient (e.g., reproduction of an x-ray image) is on the card. An image of an actual implant operation scar of the patient is on the card. The implant operation scar image shows a scar on the body of the patient resulting from implantation of the medical implant within the body of the patient. Implant identification information designating a type of the medical implant is on the card. Information designating a name of a surgeon having performed the operation for implanting the medical implant and/or information for contacting the surgeon is on the card.

  • Patent number: 8074326
Abstract: A strap assembly comprises an attachment member structure includes a main body and a plurality of attachment members. A first end portion of the main body is pivotable with respect to a second end portion thereof. Attachment members are connected to the main body at its opposing ends. A clasping device attached to the main body is engagable with one of the attachment members when a control portion of the clasping device is in a first position and selectively disengagable therefrom when a control portion of the clasping device is sufficiently displaced. A control structure is attached to the control portion of the clasping device such that sufficient displacement of the control structure with respect to the clasping device causes sufficient displacement of the control portion. A storage structure integral with the main body includes a passage configured for receiving at least a portion of the control structure therein.

  • Patent number: 8047905
Abstract: A building structure includes means to utilize solar radiation to heat the building structure during relatively cold ambient environmental conditions and to cool the building structure during relatively hot ambient environmental conditions. The building structure includes chambered wall and floor constructions having integral heat sink masses. These integral heat sink masses provide for radiation of heat when air temperature in an interior space of the building structure is below a temperature of the heat sink masses and for absorption of heat when the air temperature in the interior space of the building structure is above a temperature of the heat sink masses. A flow of thermally treated air to the heat sink masses serves to regulate the temperature of the heat sink masses.

  • Patent number: 8015029
Abstract: A system comprises means for authenticating an identity of a medical implant patient using at least a portion of information provided on an identification card and means for displaying an image showing a medical implant as actually implanted within the medical implant patient and an image showing an implant operation scar of the medical implant patient resulting from actual implantation of the medical implant therein thereby allowing the displayed image of the medical implant to be visually compared against a corresponding image provided on the identification card and allowing verification that the medical implant patient has a scar thereon appearing the same as the image showing the implant operation scar of the medical implant patient resulting from actual implantation of the medical implant. Displaying the images is performed in response to successfully authenticating the identity of the medical implant verification patient.

  • Patent number: 7905042
Abstract: A firearm with a stock having an exterior contour that is generally symmetric with respect to opposing end portions, a front edge portion and at least a portion of opposing side surfaces. A barrel extends through the front edge portion of the stock. Two safety release buttons are diametrically opposed to each other with respect to a barrel bore centerline axis and are exposed at a front edge portion of the stock. Two firing mechanism release buttons are each exposed at an exterior surface of the stock at a respective one of the opposing end portions. The firing mechanism actuation buttons are diametrically opposed to each other with respect to the barrel bore centerline axis.
