  • Patent number: 5175014
Abstract: Blocks of natural cheese (11) are packed in layers in an open-ended upright container (17), for maturing by depositing each layer of cheese blocks (11) on an elevator (18) within the container (17) and lowering the elevator (18) as successive layers of cheese blocks (11) are fed into the top of container (17). The cheese blocks (11) for each layer are assembled on a platform (52) which is moved into a position above the container (17) and the cheese blocks (11) slid off the platform (52) to drop into the container (17). The cheese blocks (11) are freshly made and at a temperature between 24.degree. 32.degree. C. so that the cheese blocks (11) fuse together in the container (17) to form a homogeneous mass of cheese in the container (17).

  • Patent number: 5167224
Abstract: A method for detecting and controllig endless loop tachycardia (ELT) of a heart being controlled by a cardiac pulse generator.A measurement is made of the VP time interval over eight cycles and of its maximum deviation which is compared with two threshold values.A modulation is applied to the atrio-ventricular delay and the following VP time interval is measured during the ninth cycle. The variation of the VP time interval is compared with the threshold values for determining whether one is dealing with an ELT or with a sinus rhythm.

  • Patent number: 5167313
Abstract: Methods and validation apparatus for achieving improved acceptance and rejection for coins, bills and other currency items. One aspect includes modifying item acceptance criteria by creating and defining three-dimensional acceptance clusters, the data for which are stored in look-up tables in memory associated with a micorprocessor. A second aspect involves fraud prevention by temporarily tightening or readjusting item acceptance criteria when a potential fraud attempt is detected. A third aspect relates to minimizing the effects of couterfeit items such as slugs on the self-adjustment process for the item acceptance criteria. A final aspect relates to calculation of a relative value of the acceptance criteria in order to conserve memory space and minimize computation time.

  • Patent number: 5164042
Abstract: In a method of producing high-yield pulp from pulp chip material containing lignocellulose the material is treated with steam in a steam treating station (1) for driving air out of the material and heating the latter. Heat treated material is mixed in a mixing station (8) with a liquid containing chemicals. The mixture of steam treated material and said liquid is transferred from the mixing station to an impregnation station (25) for impregnating the material by means of said chemicals. Impregnated material is supplied to a refining station (36) for refining the material. According to the invention the steam treated material is mixed with said liquid in proportions, such that the created mixture of material and liquid leaving the mixing station (8) assumes a flowing pumpable consistency. Further, said flowing mixture is pumped from the mixing station (8) to the impregnation station (25).

  • Patent number: 5155771
Abstract: A parametric signal processing structure, which receives autocorrelation coefficients, produces, in an additive sparse superlattice embodiment, quantities .lambda..sub.i.sup.+, defined as (1-k.sub.m) (k.sub.m-1 +1), and in a subtractive sparse superlattice embodiment, quantities .lambda..sub.m.sup.-, defined as (1+k.sub.m) (1-k.sub.m-1), where the quantities k.sub.i correspond to the lattice predictor coefficients, or PARCORS of the signal under study. The additive and subtractive sparse superlattice processing structures are strictly optimal in terms of hardware and complexity, yet lend themselves to implementation in a fully parallel, fully sequential, or parallel partitioned manner.

  • Patent number: 5155643
Abstract: An unshielded horizontal magnetoresistive head for magnetic sensing and reading devices. The horizontal unshielded magnetoresistive head is comprised of two magnetoresistive elements separated by a gap and a conductive cross member which electrically connects the magnetoresistive elements together and to a common electrical point such as system ground. A differential voltage sensing circuit is connected across the magnetoresistive elements for sensing voltage variations when magnetic data is sensed by the head. The present invention further facilitates a more simplified fabrication process which results in cost savings and more efficient fabrication methods and procedures.

  • Patent number: 5147051
Abstract: A hoisting device for individuals includes a hoisting band which can be elevated and lowered in the vertical direction. The hoisting device comprises an elongated bracket on which a driving device is attached. The driving device is arranged to displace a pivot backwards and forwards. A band runs from an attachment to the bracket around a movable guide roller and around a pulley wheel down into a loop on which the individual is attached. While being displaced, the pivot moves the guide roller, thus extending the band in the longitudinal direction of the bracket and thereby retracting the loop. The driving device is a linearly operating electric motor. In order to improve the hoisting possibilities, a trolley is arranged to be able to freely run along the continuous bracket whereby the band, which runs from the trolley on a first guide pulley and downwards in order to form a loop under the continuous bracket and up on a second guided pulley, moves with the trolley.

  • Patent number: 5143645
Abstract: Foam is formed from a solution of demineralized make-down water and foaming agent, and the foam contacted with solid materials to suppress process dust emissions. The foaming agent may be a low salt tolerant surfactant which loses its surface active properties in typical aqueous process streams, or end uses, thereby minimizing subsequent foam related problems. The low salt tolerant surfactant may be part of a combination of components for forming foam which is low salt tolerant.

  • Patent number: 5144661
Abstract: A security protection system comprises sensors to detect an alarm condition and a controller that controls the operation of a still-video and audio recording unit. When the sensors activate the controller, the controller turns on appropriate lights and activates the recording unit, and the visual and audio signals from the recording unit are converted to digital and stored on a magnetic disk. The converted signals are also transmitted through a modem to a base location for contemporaneous monitoring of the events which triggered the sensor. The controller can also be activated manually, and may be reset in case of a false alarm. The base location is able to activate the controller for verification or retransmission of the signals.
