Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for producing a metal from crude platinum or one of its alloys, comprising very fine particles, in dispersed phase form, of at least one refractory oxide, in the proportion of 0.1 to 0.5% by weight with respect to the weight of the said metal, wherein the molten host metallic material containing the said oxide is sprayed on a target by means of a device delivering a jet of pressurized gas.

Abstract: To continuously mix two flowable products such as a solid product in the divided state and a liquid product, two concentric ducts are provided each with associated entraining means. The second duct opens into the outer duct between the entry and exit ports of that duct and the entraining means of the inner duct serves to move the second flowable product through the inner duct and into the outer duct in the center of the first product stream.

Abstract: An improved snowmaking machine and method for producing artificial snow is provided, whereby a moving airstream at or below freezing temperature which is created by a motor-driven fan within a cowling is passed through an inwardly tapering conical collar attached to the downstream opening of the cowling, and water droplets are sprayed into the airstream from a plurality of nozzles distributed around an arc of preferably about 190 to 300 degrees around the opening defined by the conical collar. A mixture of water and compressed air is injected into the airstream downstream of the point the airstream exits the conical collar.

Abstract: A luminaire having parabolic reflector elements to obtain strong crossed beams of reflected light forming the main components in a batwing distribution, with elliptical reflector elements to reflect light toward the center and mid-zones of the distribution pattern but not toward the peripheries, to improve the uniformity of the illumination on a surface and to reduce direct discomfort glare. The luminaire has special utility for uplighting, to illuminate a ceiling which can thus produce indirect illumination of an area, relatively free from veiling reflections.
