Abstract: A recording conditions controlling method for an optical memory device of the present invention includes the steps of: a reproducing condition controlling step for projecting light on an optical recording medium on which information is recorded and measuring a reproducing signal read so as to control a recording condition optimum; and a recording condition controlling step for controlling a recording condition in accordance with the reproducing condition thus optimized. This prevents destruction of an optical disk by heat, which occurs when the heat capacity of the optical disk is small and/or when the environment temperature is high, thus realizing a stable control of recording light quantity.

Abstract: A pulper has a circular rotor that carries a set of peripheral blades that rotate within a stator having a set of peripheral lobes that interact with the peripheral blades as they rotate to reduce and defiber materials, e.g., to produce pulp slurries for paper-making. A cone assembly is mounted over the center of the rotor on a base plate. The cone assembly includes a blade that extends across the common axis of rotation of the base plate and the rotor and projects into a tank beyond the height of the peripheral blades and the stator lobes. A support structure, preferably in the form of a “cone”, supports the blade. The cone preferably has a pyramidal structure and in one form extends sufficiently far up the blade so that, typically, no more than 2 to 3 inches of the blade project above the outer surface of the cone. The blade has a triangular structure terminating in a central apex for use in reducing slabs of large sheet materials such as reel broke.
Abstract: A digital information recording carrier has a planar recording surface having an information recording area in which meshes corresponding to bits are virtually set in a matrix form, each mesh being provided with an optically recognizable mark corresponding to digital information so that the digital information is recorded in the information recording area as a two-dimensional pattern. The carrier also has specific patterns each consisting of a plurality of meshes which are linked together and which are given marks in a given pattern. Some of the specific patterns are placed in an inner portion apart from a perimeter of the information recording area.
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus including a transfer and transport belt suspended between a plurality of rollers, an image forming section for forming a pattern image on the transfer and transport belt, and a pattern image detecting sensor for detecting the pattern image, the pattern image detecting sensor is disposed so as to detect the surface of a suspended segment, of the transfer and transport belt, suspended between the rollers, and a back surface contact member that is in contact with a back surface of a detection area where the pattern image detecting sensor detects the pattern image on the surface of the transfer and transport belt is provided so as to render the detection area flat and stable. This can provide an image forming apparatus incorporating a pattern image detecting means having a simple arrangement and a capability to surely detect the pattern image in a precise and stable manner.

Abstract: A controller instructs a spindle motor to start rotating, and instructs a servo control section to start a focus servo control. When a light beam crosses information tracks on an optical disc with a rotation of the optical disc, an amplitude indicating signal generating section detects changes in the amplitude of a readout signal output from an optical pickup. A disc type identifying section identifies types of optical discs having different track pitches of the information tracks in starting the rotation of each optical disc based on the peak value and bottom value or the amplitude of the readout signal. Consequently, the types of optical discs having different information recording densities, particularly different track pitches, can be identified at an early stage without waiting for reproduction of information recorded on each optical disc. It is therefore possible to shorten the time for starting an optical disc device, or prevent an increase in the starting time.
Abstract: Position determining concave portions for determining, when a plurality of packaging trays are stacked, a stacking position of each packaging tray with respect to at least another packaging tray placed above or beneath are provided. Each bottom portion of the position determining concave portion in the depth direction is made slightly smaller than the opening portion of the same. Consequently, when a plurality of the packaging trays are stacked, the bottom portions of the position determining concave portions of the upper packaging tray slightly fit into the opening portions of the corresponding position determining concave portions of the lower packaging tray through point contact or linear contact, whereby the stacking position of the upper packaging tray with respect to the lower packaging tray is determined fixedly.
Abstract: It is an object of the invention that development quality is improved by increasing the amount of charge during the transportation of toner by a toner holding member and decreasing the amount of charge during development for rendering an electrostatic latent image visible. A one-component non-magnetic toner is supplied from a toner supplying unit to the toner holding member such that the toner is electrostatically attracted to adhere to the toner holding member with a large amount of charge. The charge of the toner under transportation is reduced by charge adjusting means such as a conductive roller supplied with a potential from a frictional charging member or a voltage source, whereby the amount of development or the amount of toner adhering to an electrostatic latent image is increased and development quality is improved.
Abstract: An optical disk is provided with a recording layer, and with an optical coupling layer on a light-incident side of the recording layer. An optical recording and reproducing device and method include an objective lens and a hemispherical lens, which converge a light beam from a light source and project the light beam onto the optical disk. The hemispherical lens is provided in close proximity to the optical coupling layer, in a position such that an interval therebetween is not more than the wavelength of the light produced by the light source. The light beam converged by the objective lens and the hemispherical lens is coupled with the optical coupling layer while substantially maintaining a direction of propagation in which it was propagating while inside the hemispherical lens.
Abstract: A polarizing plate and a double refracting plate, which are allowed to rotate around an optic axis, are provided to the light-exit side of a liquid crystal layer. The double refracting plate splits incident light into an ordinary ray which travels along a straight optic axis and an extraordinary ray which travels along a refracted optic axis, and supplies the same to a printing paper. The double refracting plate is laminated to the polarizing plate in such a manner that the splitting direction of the former matches with the polarizing plate of the latter, thereby allowing only the extraordinary ray to exit from the double refracting plate. By rotating the two plates together as one body by, for example, 90 degrees around the optic axis and exposing the printing paper each time, resolution attained without displacing the liquid crystal layer or printing paper with respect to the other is nearly as high as the one obtained by displacing the liquid crystal layer or printing paper.
Abstract: Featured is a sheet feed unit including a first transport path in which is transported a first sheet, a second transport path and a protrusion. A second sheet is transported in the second transport path and guided at a prescribed angle relative to the first transport path. The protrusion is located or fixed at a confluence of the first transport path and the second transport path. The protrusion also has a guide surface that is placed to allow the second sheet to be guided along the first transport path.
Abstract: An optical disk has address recording sections each of which has a wobbled part of one of side walls of a groove. Each address recording section is formed by providing convexes of a groove in an adjacent land so as to widen the groove. With the wobbles thus provided in a concavo-convex form, address information is recorded. Besides, the address recording sections thus provided in the grooves are linearly disposed in radial directions of the optical disk. By thus arranging the optical disk on whose grooves and/or lands information is recorded, mixing of wobble frequency components in reproduced information signals does not occur, the sector method is applicable to the optical disk, and information signals of high quality can be obtained.

Abstract: There is featured a processing method for processing a target body that includes setting a beam area formed by a laser beam on the organic insulating film so as to be larger than an area formed by projecting a target part of an organic insulating film onto a horizontal plane. The method also includes, subsequently moving the organic insulating film toward the irradiated region of the laser beam, and terminating the irradiation with the laser beam when the end part of the target part coincides with the moving end part of the laser beam. This enables the resultant processed target surface to be smooth and free from reaction product including decomposed segments of the target body. Also featured is an optical component including an optical element having a surface that is processed according to the processing methods of the present invention.

Abstract: An optical reproducing device according to the present invention detects mean amplitude values of short marks and long marks, which are recorded marks for reproducing power control, by means of a short mark level detecting circuit and a long mark level detecting circuit. Then a differential amplifier compares a ratio between these two mean amplitude values with a standard value, and outputs the result of this comparison. Thereafter, a reproducing power control circuit controls reproducing power of a semiconductor laser such that the absolute value of this comparison result is reduced. Since mean values of the amplitude values of the short marks and long marks are detected, the detection results are very accurate, and the precision of control of reproducing power can be greatly improved.
