  • Patent number: 6417898
Abstract: An active matrix substrate as one of substrates constituting a liquid crystal panel of a liquid crystal display device is made of a piece of substrate produced by connecting a plurality of small active matrix substrates side by side, and has color filters formed thereon. With this structure, when each of the small active matrix substrates has a maximum area obtainable by a conventional production line, a counter substrate disposed opposite to the active matrix substrate is larger than the maximum size producible by the conventional production line. However, since the color filters are formed on the small active matrix substrates, it is not necessary to newly provide a color filter production line corresponding to the larger counter substrate. Since new facility investment is not required, it is possible to provide a large-area liquid crystal display device at a low price.

  • Patent number: 6413845
Abstract: In the present method for fabricating metal interconnections, a Ni film is deposited on an insulating substrate by electroless plating, and a photoresist film is formed in a specified pattern on the Ni film. An Au film is deposited by electroless plating in a region where the Ni film is exposed and where the resist is not formed. The photoresist film is removed, and the Ni film exposed by the removal of the photoresist film is removed by etching. A Cu film is formed on the Au film by electroplating or electroless plating selectively. This method consists of only wet deposition process, involves less etching process and provides metal interconnections of low resistance.

  • Patent number: 6411065
Abstract: An integrated system for comprehensive control of an electric power generation system utilizes state machine control having particularly defined control states and permitted control state transitions. In this way, accurate, dependable and safe control of the electric power generation system is provided. Several of these control states may be utilized in conjunction with a utility outage ride-through technique that compensates for a utility outage by predictably controlling the system to bring the system off-line and to bring the system back on-line when the utility returns. Furthermore, a line synchronization technique synchronizes the generated power with the power on the grid when coming back on-line. The line synchronization technique limits the rate of synchronization to permit undesired transient voltages.

  • Patent number: 6406017
Abstract: In a recording medium transportation apparatus that transports a recording medium held attracted to a belt by air suction, the recording medium can be transported stably with generation of curling at the side end of the recording medium suppressed. A plurality of suction holes generating suction force by air suction are formed at the belt. A plurality of suction holes extending in one row over the belt running direction form hole rows. Each hole row is set to be located corresponding to the width dimension of a paper sheet of the size of A3, B4, A4, B5 defined by the Japanese Industrial Standard and post card. When a sheet of respective size is placed on the belt, the side end of the width direction is drawn by suction holes.

  • Patent number: 6406941
Abstract: After forming an insulating layer over the entire surface of a transparent substrate, a wiring layer having a predetermined pattern is formed on the insulating layer. After forming the wiring layer, a portion of the insulating layer thus formed corresponding to a light receiving area of a solid-state imaging element is removed to provide an aperture for the insulating layer and to uncover a surface of a light receiving area of the transparent substrate. Thereafter, the solid-state imaging element is bonded with the wiring layer and a gap between the transparent substrate and the solid-state imaging element is sealed by a sealing resin, thereby inexpensively providing a high-quality solid-state imaging device and a manufacturing method thereof, capable of preventing adhesion of foreign objects on a light receiving surface.

  • Patent number: 6400428
Abstract: A display device of a multi-panel system is composed of plural liquid crystal panels which are jointed together by means of a bonding agent, and offers an image displayed on a large screen, wherein at least one edge portion of an end surface of a connected part of each liquid crystal panel is chamfered. According to the described arrangement, an internal stress generated by the curing shrinkage of the bonding agent at the chamfered portion is dispersed when joining the liquid crystal panels together, thereby preventing an occurrence of cracks at the edge portion. In this way, light scattering due to cracks at the joint between liquid crystal panels can be prevented. Accordingly, a liquid crystal display device of a large screen that offers excellent visibility in which a joint between liquid crystal panels does not stand out can be achieved.
