  • Patent number: 8326576
Abstract: Power quality (PQ) events in a waveform in a power distribution network are detected by sampling the waveform. For each sample, a normalized sample is determined by subtracting an undistorted waveform from the sample. An accumulated weighted log-likelihood ratio (LLR) is determined for all normalized samples, as well as a minimum of the accumulated weighted LLR. If the difference between the accumulated weighted LLR an the minimum LLR is greater than a predetermined threshold, then the PQ event is signaled. The network can be a smart grid.

  • Patent number: 8326594
Abstract: A method analyzes a model of a balanced power distribution system by transforming a model of the balanced distribution system with zero impedance branches to an equivalent model of the balanced power distribution system with non-zero impedance branches. Decoupled power mismatch equations with second orders are generated for each bus in the equivalent model. Power mismatches are determined using the bus power flow equations. The power mismatches are compared to a predetermined threshold. Then, for each bus, solving iteratively, if the comparing is true, the power mismatch equations to obtain a bus voltage magnitude correction and a bus phase angle correction until the comparing is false.

  • Patent number: 8315426
Abstract: In stereo images that include occluded pixels and visible pixels, occlusions are handled by first determining, for the occluded pixels, initial disparity values and support for the initial disparity values using an initial support function, an occlusion map and disparities of the visible pixels neighboring the occluded pixels in the stereo images. Then, for the occluded pixels, final disparity values and support for the final disparity values are determined using the initial disparity values, a final support function and a normalization function in an iterative support-and-decision process.

  • Patent number: 8311285
Abstract: A location and orientation in an environment is determined by acquiring a set of one or more real omni-directional images of an unknown skyline in the environment from an unknown location and an unknown orientation in the environment by an omni-directional camera. A set of virtual omni-directional images is synthesized from a 3D model of the environment, wherein each virtual omni-directional image is associated with a known skyline, a known location and a known orientation. Each real omni-directional image is compared with the set of virtual omni-directional images to determine a best matching virtual omni-directional image with the associated known location and known orientation that correspond to the unknown location and orientation.

  • Patent number: 8306314
Abstract: A pose for an object in a scene is determined by first rendering sets of virtual images of a model of the object using a virtual camera. Each set of virtual images is for a different known pose the model, and constructing virtual depth edge map from each virtual image, which are stored in a database. A set of real images of the object at an unknown pose are acquired by a real camera, and constructing real depth edge map for each real image. The real depth edge maps are compared with the virtual depth edge maps using a cost function to determine the known pose that best matches the unknown pose, wherein the matching is based on locations and orientations of pixels in the depth edge maps.

  • Patent number: 8306328
Abstract: A method converts an outline character to a stylized stroke character by first identifying regions of the outline character, wherein each region is closed and disjoint. For each region, candidate locations for stroke bodies and terminals of the stylized stroke character are determined. The stroke bodies are then initialized and organized into a hierarchical tree stricture, and modified in an order of the hierarchical tree structure. End positions of the modified stroke bodies are then adjusted to match the outline character, and lastly, the terminals are selected for the adjusted stroke bodies.

  • Patent number: 8290074
Abstract: In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) network, a set of pseudo random sequences (PRS) are stored at a transmitter and a receiver. Each OFDM symbol is mapped to subcarriers for a set of transmit antennas to produce a mapped symbol. The mapped symbol is encoded using a pseudo-random phase precoder (PRPP) and the PRS to produce a precoded symbol. An inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) is applied to the precoded symbol, and the encoded symbol is transmitted to the receiver using the set of transmit antennas.

  • Patent number: 8290298
Abstract: A method edits an input video to produce an output video. Pixels of the input video are partitioned into sets of pixels, wherein the pixels in the sets are adjacent, and for each set of pixels performing the following steps. A trellis having nodes connected by directed links is constructed. Each node corresponds to one of the pixels in the set of pixels, and each node is associated with an action and location of the pixel in the output image. Costs are assigned to the nodes and the links, wherein the costs are on apparent motion in the input video. A least cost path is determined through the trellis. Then, for each node on the path, apply the action associated the node to the corresponding pixel in the input video to edit the corresponding pixel at the location in the output video associated with the node.

  • Patent number: 8284862
Abstract: A set of data symbols is selected from a set of modulation constellation, and a sample-mean of the set of data symbols is determined. Each data symbol is first shifted by the sample-mean to obtain a shifted data symbol, and then the shifted symbol is multiplied by a first constant to obtain a scaled data symbol. A second constant is added to the scaled data symbol to obtain a mapped data symbol. The sample-mean is multiplied by a third constant to obtain a sample-mean mapped symbol. The set of mapped data symbols and the sample-mean mapped symbol are then transmitted as a resource block.
