  • Patent number: 7728878
Abstract: A method processes a multiview videos of a scene, in which each video is acquired by a corresponding camera arranged at a particular pose, and in which a view of each camera overlaps with the view of at least one other camera. Side information for synthesizing a particular view of the multiview video is obtained in either an encoder or decoder. A synthesized multiview video is synthesized from the of multiview videos and the side information. A reference picture list is maintained for each current frame of each of the multiview videos, the reference picture indexes temporal reference pictures and spatial reference pictures of the acquired multiview videos and the synthesized reference pictures of the synthesized multiview video. Each current frame of the multiview videos is predicted according to reference pictures indexed by the associated reference picture list.

  • Patent number: 7728877
Abstract: A system and method synthesizes multiview videos. Multiview videos are acquired of a scene with corresponding cameras arranged at a poses such that there is view overlap between any pair of cameras. A synthesized multiview video is generated from the acquired multiview videos for a virtual camera. A reference picture list is maintained for each current frame of each of the multiview videos and the synthesized video. The reference picture list indexes temporal reference pictures and spatial reference pictures of the acquired multiview videos and the synthesized reference pictures of the synthesized multiview video. Then, each current frame of the multiview videos is predicted according to reference pictures indexed by the associated reference picture list during encoding and decoding.

  • Patent number: 7724961
Abstract: A computer implemented method constructs a classifier for classifying test data. High-level features are generated from low-level features extracted from training data. The high level features are positive definite matrices in a form of an analytical manifold. A subset of the high-level features is selected. An intrinsic mean matrix is determined from the subset of the selected high-level features. Each high-level feature is mapped to a feature vector onto a tangent space of the analytical manifold using the intrinsic mean matrix. Then, an untrained classifier model can be trained with the feature vectors to obtain a trained classifier. Subsequently, the trained classifier can classify unknown test data.

  • Patent number: 7720289
Abstract: A method constructs descriptors for a set of data samples and determines a distance score between pairs of subsets selected from the set of data samples. A d-dimensional feature vector is extracted for each sample in each subset of samples. The feature vector includes indices to the corresponding sample and properties of the sample. The feature vectors of each subset of samples are combined into a d×d dimensional covariance matrix. The covariance matrix is a descriptor of the corresponding subset of samples. Then, a distance score is determined between the two subsets of samples using the descriptors to measure a similarity between the descriptors.

  • Patent number: 7715480
Abstract: A method encodes a video by applying a dual-tree discrete wavelet transform to the video to generate sequences of wavelet coefficients. The sequences are compressed to produce a compressed bitstream corresponding to the video. The compression iteratively selects the wavelet coefficients in a large to small order, and entropy encodes the selected wavelet coefficient.

  • Patent number: 7711182
Abstract: Surface normals and other 3D shape descriptors are determined for a specular or hybrid specular-diffuse object. A camera records an image of a smoothly spatially-varying pattern being reflected in the surface of the object, with the pattern placed at an initial position. The camera then records multiple images of the pattern undergoing a sequence of subsequent displacements to a final position distinct from the initial position. For a pixel in the images, the pattern displacement that corresponds to the minimum difference between the pixel value in the initial image and any of the final images is determined. The incident ray that strikes the surface of the object at the point being imaged by the pixel is then determined using the determined pattern displacement. The surface normal at that same surface point is then determined using the determined incident ray.

  • Patent number: 7710462
Abstract: A method randomly accesses multiview videos. Multiview videos are acquired of a scene with corresponding cameras arranged at poses, such that there is view overlap between any pair of cameras. V-frames are generated from the multiview videos. The V-frames are encoded using only spatial prediction. Then, the V-frames are inserted periodically in an encoded bitstream to provide random temporal access to the multiview videos.

  • Patent number: 7706899
Abstract: An adaptive cascade proportional-integral-derivative controller produces a fixed controller output including a fixed proportional-integral-derivative and a fixed feedforward controller command, and an adaptive controller output including an adaptive cascade PID and an adaptive feedforward command all from a reference command. • Patent number: 7698143
Abstract: A method generates envelope spectra and harmonic spectra from an input broad-band training acoustic signal. Corresponding non-negative envelope bases are trained for the envelope spectra and non-negative harmonic bases are trained for the harmonic spectra using convolutive non-negative matrix factorization. Higher-band frequencies are generated for an input lower-band acoustic signal according to the non-negative envelope bases and the non-negative harmonic bases. Then, the input lower-band acoustic signal is combined with the higher-band frequencies to produce an output broad-band acoustic signal.

  • Patent number: 7693331
Abstract: A method tracks an object. A sequence of visible images and a sequence of infrared images are acquired concurrently of a scene. A visible background image is maintained from each current visible image, while an infrared background image is maintained from each current infrared image. Each current visible image and the visible background image, and each current infrared image and the infrared background image are compared to generate corresponding changed pixels. Shadow pixels and reflectance pixels are discarded from the changed pixels to identify foreground pixels associated with an object in the scene.

  • Patent number: 7684337
Abstract: A method and system for communicating information in a cooperative relay network of wireless nodes. The wireless nodes including a source, a set of relays, and a destination. Channel state information for each channel between a particular relay of the set of relays and the destination is estimated. A subset of the relays is selected based on the channel state information. The channel state information is fed back to the subset of relays. The source node can then broadcasting data packets from the source to the subset of relays, and the subset of relays forward coherently the data packets from the subset of relays to the destination using beamforming based on the channel state information, while adjusting power to minimize a total energy consumption in the network.

  • Patent number: 7680303
Abstract: A method registers images by first determining spatial gradient magnitudes for each pixel in each image to provide a corresponding energy image. Each energy image is transformed according to motion parameters associated with the energy image. An average sum of the transformed energy images is maximized. The motion parameters are then updated according to the maximized average sum. The above steps are repeated until a termination condition is reached, and then the images can be registered with each other according to the updated motion parameters.
