  • Patent number: 8023462
Abstract: A method allocates frequency subchannels in an orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) network including a set of base stations and a set of mobile stations for each base station. A graph of nodes and edges is constructed, in which the nodes represent the mobile stations in the network, and the edges connecting the nodes represent subchannel allocation constraints to be satisfied for the mobile stations represented by the nodes. The nodes are colored with colors selected from a set of colors such that subchannel allocation constraints of a pair of nodes connected by one of the edges are satisfied. The subchannels are allocated to the mobile stations according to the colors of the corresponding the nodes.

  • Patent number: 8023915
Abstract: Beams are used to communicate in a wireless network including mobile and stationary receivers. The network operates according to the IEEE 802.11p in wireless access to vehicular environments (WAVE). A direction from the mobile transceiver to the stationary receiver is predicted using geographic information available to the mobile transceiver. A set of signals are received in the mobile transceiver from the stationary transceiver, wherein the signals are received by an array of antennas, and wherein the signals are received using a set of beams, and wherein each beam is approximately directed at the stationary receiver. A signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is measured for each beam, and the beam with an optimal SNR is selected as an optimal beam for communicating data between the mobile transceiver and the stationary transceiver.

  • Patent number: 8014263
Abstract: Cross-talk is canceled in a cooperative wireless relay network that includes a base station (BS), a relay station (RS), and a mobile station (MS). A coupling channel between a transmit antenna and a receive antenna colocated at the RS is estimated. Cross-talk interference determination is based on a previous transmitted signal by the transmit antenna, and the coupling channel. The cross-talk interference is subtracted from a currently received signal by the receive antenna to obtain a residual signal. The residual signal is then transmitted as a next transmitted signal by the transmit antenna.

  • Patent number: 8015003
Abstract: A method and system denoises a mixed signal. A constrained non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) is applied to the mixed signal. The NMF is constrained by a denoising model, in which the denoising model includes training basis matrices of a training acoustic signal and a training noise signal, and statistics of weights of the training basis matrices. The applying produces weight of a basis matrix of the acoustic signal of the mixed signal. A product of the weights of the basis matrix of the acoustic signal and the training basis matrices of the training acoustic signal and the training noise signal is taken to reconstruct the acoustic signal. The mixed signal can be speech and noise.

  • Patent number: 8014326
Abstract: A method and system provide multiple-access control and frequency band allocation, and transmission time sharing among multiple users in orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) and time-division multiple-access (TDMA) networks. The method can be applied to uplinks and downlinks of multi-user, multi-carrier communication networks. Under a total transmission-power minimization constraint, the method can allocate carriers and transmission time to users optimally, and at the same time, can guarantee a data rate or equivalently a latency requirement of each user.

  • Patent number: 8010328
Abstract: Provided is a method performed on a processor for simulating the milling of an object by moving a shape along a path intersecting the object. A composite adaptively sampled distance field (ADF) is generated to represent the object, where the composite ADF includes a set of cells. Each cell in the composite ADF includes a set of distance fields and a procedural reconstruction method for reconstructing the object within the cell. The shape is represented by a shape distance field. The path is represented by a parametric function. A swept volume distance field is defined in a continuous manner to represent a swept volume generated by moving the shape along the path according to a swept volume reconstruction method which reconstructs the swept volume distance field at a sample point. The composite ADF is edited to incorporate the swept volume distance field into the composite ADF to simulate the milling.

  • Patent number: 7986820
Abstract: Features are extracted from a test and reference image to generate a test and reference record. Each feature has a location, and orientation, and furthermore, the features of the reference records also have associated weights. The features of the test record are approximately aligned with the features of the reference record. Then, differences between the locations and orientations of the features of the reference record and the features of the test record are measured, and the weights of all features of the reference record that are less than a predetermined difference when compared with the features of the test record are summed to determine a similarity score that the test record matches the reference record.

  • Patent number: 7983487
Abstract: A method and system determines a 3D pose of an object in a scene. Depth edges are determined from a set of images acquired of a scene including multiple objects while varying illumination in the scene. The depth edges are linked to form contours. The images are segmented into regions according to the contours. An occlusion graph is constructed using the regions. The occlusion graph includes a source node representing an unoccluded region of an unoccluded object in scene. The contour associated with the unoccluded region is compared with a set of silhouettes of the objects, in which each silhouette has a known pose. The known pose of a best matching silhouette is selected as the pose of the unoccluded object.

  • Patent number: 7983496
Abstract: A method performs inverse tone mapping of an image in a decoder. For each block of each color channel of the image a scaling factor is determined by adding a predicted scaling factor for the current block to a difference between the predicted scaling factor and the scaling factor of an adjacent block. An offset value for the current block is determined by adding a predicted offset for the current block to a difference between the predicted offset value and the offset value of the adjacent block. The scaling factor and the offset value are applied to pixel intensity values of the current block to produce a mapped block. The inverse tone mapping can also be applied to blocks of different sizes.

  • Patent number: 7969963
Abstract: A method and system improves two-way radio ranging accuracy by estimating a relative clock frequency offset between a first clock X of a first transceiver and a second clock Y a second transceiver. The first transceiver transmits a first packet at time t0 received by the second transceiver at a time t1. The second transceiver transmits a second packet at a time t2 received by first transceiver at a time t3. The second transceiver transmits a third packet at a time t4 received at a time t5. The relative clock frequency offset is then ? ? ? f XY ? ? 2 ? ? f ? ( N 24 Y - N 35 X ) N 24 Y + N 35 X , where f is a nominal clock frequency of the first and second clocks, NY24 is a measured first delay between times t2 and t4 of the second clock, NX35 is a measured second delay between times t3 and t5 of the first clock X.

  • Patent number: 7961952
Abstract: Invention describes a method and system for detecting and tracking an object in a sequence of images. For each image the invention determines an object descriptor from a tracking region in a current image in a sequence of images, in which the tracking region corresponds to a location of an object in a previous image. A regression function is applied to the descriptor to determine a motion of the object from the previous image to the current image, in which the motion has a matrix Lie group structure. The location of the tracking region is updated using the motion of the object.
