Abstract: A railway train comprised of interconnected tank cars, each provided with two lading conduits coupled to and in fluid communication with the tank car. A baffle is positioned in the tank car intermediate the lading conduits to provide an automatic outage for the tank car. Liquid lading introduced into the tank car through one of the lading conduits fills the tank car thereby trapping gas vapor resulting in overflow of the liquid lading into the next tank car to fill the tank train seriatim.

Abstract: A cross bar is provided for interconnecting two parallel spaced-apart beams of a rack construction, wherein each beam has an inner ledge having a plurality of longitudinally spaced-apart apertures therein. The cross bar is in the form of a rectangular open-bottom channel member with one leg longer than the other, the long leg being integral along the entire lower edge thereof with a laterally outwardly extending flange. Two notches are respectively formed in the flange predetermined short distances from the opposite ends thereof, with the portions of the flange between the notches and the adjacent ends defining tabs dimensioned for insertion into selected ones of the apertures in the beams so that the short leg of the cross bar will rest upon the beam ledges with the top of the cross bar disposed substantially horizontally, the inner edges of the beam ledges being accommodated in the cross bar notches.

Abstract: A portable water injection plant for use either in waterflooding operations in secondary recovery of oil from an underground formation penetrated by oil recovery wells and water injection wells, or in water disposal operations, includes a basic portable plant module comprising a portable foundation having a water pump mounted thereon and having electrical wiring and fluid conduits preassembled on the foundation, the fluid conduits including an intake header coupled to the water inlet of the pump and a discharge header coupled to the water outlet of the pump. Coupling means are provided for readily detachably coupling the intake header to one or more associated water sources and the discharge header to one or more water injection wells. Auxiliary portable plant modules may be readily detachably coupled to the basic plant module and to additional water sources to increase the pumping capacity of the water injection plant.

Abstract: A nestable shim includes a flat plate having a ridge portion with a convex upper surface and a concave lower surface, adaptable to be received beneath the foot plate of a rack column for adjusting the height thereof, wherein the foot plate has a concave groove in the bottom surface thereof in which the ridge portion of the shim nests in use. The top and bottom surfaces of the ridge portion are complementary to permit nesting of a plurality of the shims. The foot plate and the shim each have three fastener-receiving apertures therethrough. Alternatively, a slot may be used in place of one of the shim apertures.

Abstract: A plurality of light boxes adapted to be transported and stored in a knocked-down and disassembled condition to be readily assembled, set up and connected together, with a divider between adjacent light boxes and with a front translucent panel for each light box which is lit up by lights within each light box. Each translucent panel having a flange, with the flanges of the adjacent panels being held in abutting relationship by clamping means which eliminates mullions therebetween and with the clamping means so constructed to eliminate and/or reduce the shadows on the panels at such junctures. The adjacent panels presenting when lighted a continuous surface where the dividing lines between adjacent panels are substantially imperceptible.

Abstract: A drawer slide assembly for slidably mounting a drawer in a cabinet includes a pair of channel track members, each substantially C-shaped in transverse cross section, respectively secured to the adjacent side walls of the drawer and cabinet housing, each of said track members defining upper and lower channels respectively provided with longitudinally extending substantially flat planar parallel support surfaces. A runner is provided with a pair of laterally spaced apart upwardly extending arms respectively disposable in the upper channels of the track members and a pair of laterally spaced apart downwardly extending arms respectively disposable in the lower channels of the track members, each arm having a substantially flat planar bearing surface disposable in parallel sliding engagement with the associated one of the support surfaces. Each bearing surface has end portions inclined so as to diverge from the associated support surface toward the adjacent end thereof.

Abstract: A receiver module including a mode launcher, a band pass filter, a local oscillator and a balanced mixer for use in the frequency range 1 GHz to 1,000 GHz, wherein the components are all connected by an insular waveguide transmission line having a conductive image plane, a dielectric waveguide attached to the image plane by a thin film of plastic, the thin film being low loss in character and having a low permittivity compared with that of the dielectric waveguide, the ratio between the thickness of the thin film and the square root of the cross-sectional area of the dielectric waveguide being in the range from about 0.02 to about 1.0.

Abstract: A weatherproof loudspeaker assembly includes a box-like one-piece open-front plastic housing and a corrugated fiberboard member folded so as to line the inside of the housing with two crossed layers of corrugations on each of the walls surrounding the open front. A plastic grille plate has a plurality of slots therethrough separating forwardly projecting vanes, and a loudspeaker has a water-repellent front portion including a peripheral mounting and sealing flange mounted in watertight sealing engagement with the rear of the grille plate in surrounding relationship with the slots by means of plastic posts extending from the grille plate through holes in the loudspeaker flange and melted in place to form a rivet-like fastening.

Abstract: A holder for removably retaining a card or strip which contains information in a displayed position, such as for example when a car or truck is serviced and what has been done. The holder is supported in the vehicle in a visible place to serve as a constant reminder for the next servicing. The holder is integrally formed of plastic in an injection molding machine in a one-shot operation. The holder has a front member and a spaced rear member connected with sides and a bottom to provide a pocket of substantially thin cross-sectional dimensions between the front and rear member. The front member has spaced front vertical wall sections, one of each of the wall sections at the opposite ends of the front member and providing an open area therebetween. The rear member has spaced rear open sections with each open section being directly rearward of and in alignment with the spaced front wall sections.

Abstract: A combination channel post and bracket including abutting means for removably securing the bracket to the post, and enabling the vertical level of the bracket to be incrementally varied along the post. The abutting means may include an upper rod for contacting the inside of the post and a lower rod for contacting the outside of the post, and a cam for also contacting the outside of the post. The rotation of the cam provides a fine adjustment of the slant of the bracket, and simultaneously locks the bracket at the new adjusted position. For purposes of exacting adjustability, the lower rod and cam may have several removable positions on the bracket for precisely varying the incline of the bracket. A spacer may be positioned between the post and the cam, to enable the cam to provide fine adjustment of the slant of the bracket and to lock the bracket in place, for the several different positions of the lower rod on the bracket, including a reverse slant position.

Abstract: A dispenser for odor control agents comprising a generally cylindrical housing having air openings therein adjacent to each end thereof and including a base, a fan mounted on the base for drawing air through the openings adjacent to one end of the housing to establish an air stream through the housing, a cartridge removably mounted on the base and including a compartment for receiving an odor control agent, a duct for directing the air stream through the compartment past the odor control agent and out through the openings adjacent to the other end of the housing, a cover shiftably mounted on the base and movable between a closed position and an open position wherein the fan and the cartridge are accessible for removal and servicing, and an air controller in the path of the air stream including two apertured members shiftable so as to align the apertures to provide maximum flow of air or to place the apertures in substantial non-alignment to block the flow of air.

Abstract: Strap guide apparatus for use in a strapping machine for applying plastic strap in a loop around an object is adapted for guiding the strap to a sealing region both from a strap supply and from the loop about the object to provide overlapping strap portions in the sealing region to be sealed together. The guide apparatus includes a plastic feed track member and first and second plastic guide members which are located adjacent to the sealing region. The first guide member provides a strap channel which is covered by the second guide member to provide a strap passage from an inner track surface of the feed track member to the sealing region. The second guide member has an outer guide surface which cooperates with an outer track surface on the feed track member to guide the leading end of the strap from the loop back to the sealing region in spaced-apart overlapping relationship with the supply portion of the strap.

Abstract: A system for dispensing steel strapping material from a heavy coil thereof includes a pallet having laterally spaced-apart elongated feet and adapted for supporting the coil on its side with its axis disposed vertically to form a strapping material assembly, the pallet having a positioning hub for preventing horizontal movement of the coil thereon. A horizontal turntable is rotatably driven about a vertical axis by an air motor and it includes a pair of laterally spaced-apart elongated roller conveyor tracks for respectively receiving the pallet feet for rolling the pallet to a dispensing position on the turntable coaxial therewith. The track assemblies engage the sides of the pallet feet and cooperate with positioning bars spanning the ends of the track assemblies for limiting horizontal movement of the pallet, while a hold-down assembly cooperates with the turntable to prevent vertical movement of the pallet.

A removable metal cover may be latched in place to close the open end of the container, the cover having an ashtray and cigarette holding grooves formed therein.

Abstract: A hand and foot-operated lawn edge trimming tool includes a pair of platform sections each having a flat base and an attachment flange depending therefrom, and a flat blade clamped by fastening means between the attachment flanges and extending downwardly therebeneath, the clamped-together sections forming a platform having a ribbed foot-receiving upper surface terminating at the front end thereof in an upstanding toe-retaining wall. Stiffening ribs extend laterally outwardly from the attachment flange and cooperate to define recesses for the fastening means, one of the ribs receiving therethrough a transversely extending bolt for pivotally coupling a pair of handle brackets to the platform adjacent to the front end thereof, the handle brackets being secured to an upstanding handle and cooperating to bridge the foot of a user standing on the platform. The upper edge of the blade extends rearwardly beyond the rear end of the platform.
