  • Patent number: 6622169
Abstract: A network server is adapted to connect on the network with Internet appliances, and to fully configure such appliances over a network connection to access and operate on the Internet. In a preferred embodiment the appliances have first control routines adapted to cooperate with second routines at the server, and also a network address for connection. An initiation signal by a user at a network-connected appliance launches the first routines, causing the appliance to invoke the network address and to establish network communication with the server and to initiate configuration interaction. In some cases special telephone numbers are provided with new appliances, and the dial-up server, through Destination Number Information Service (DNIS) uses the dial-up number in conjunction with a data repository to select appropriate software for interfacing with and configuring a connecting appliance. A full range of services may be provided, including value-added services, such a browsers and browser configuration.

  • Patent number: 6603762
Abstract: A control system is provided for controlling the aspects of data conversion and routing of data passing between two disparate communications networks. The system operates from a network-connected computer node running a software application. The computer node acquires the data protocol associated with the data en-route from one network to another and using the software application, formulates the required conversion commands and routing instructions based on information provided by the protocol signal. The generated commands are routed to the appropriate conversion nodes through which the data will pass into the next network. The conversion nodes apply the commands routed to them by the computer node to the appropriate data passing through the nodes. In one application, the control system combines the total hardware and software functions of the computer node and the conversion nodes and is provided to operate from one network-connected node.

  • Patent number: 6602784
Abstract: A new method for CVD deposition on a substrate is taught wherein radical species are used in alternate steps to depositions from a molecular precursor to treat the material deposited from the molecular precursor and to prepare the substrate surface with a reactive chemical in preparation for the next molecular precursor step. By repetitive cycles a composite integrated film is produced. In a preferred embodiment the depositions from the molecular precursor are metals, and the radicals in the alternate steps are used to remove ligands left from the metal precursor reactions, and to oxidize or nitridize the metal surface in subsequent layers. A variety of alternative chemistries are taught for different films, and hardware combinations to practice the invention are taught as well.

  • Patent number: 6600822
Abstract: An automated dialer for a call center maximizes agent efficiency in two different ways. In a first method overdial probability is expressed as a probability function of number of agents and total traffic volume; the probability function is set equal to a maximum allowable overdial probability; and the resulting equation is solved for maximum total traffic volume producing the maximum overdial probability. The maximum total traffic volume is then used to determine a new dialing rate by dividing the difference between the calculated maximum traffic volume and known inbound traffic volume by the product of average call length and hit rate, where hit rate is the percentage of connected calls to total dialed outbound calls. In a second method a maximum total traffic volume is calculated from total number of agents times a desired agent utilization factor, and the total traffic volume is used as in the first method to calculate and set a new dialing rate for outbound calls.

  • Patent number: 6597685
Abstract: An Internet Protocol-capable call center system has a managing computer connected to a plurality of PCs at agent stations on a local area network. The managing computer is adapted to receive and route Internet Protocol Network Telephony calls to the agent stations according to predetermined routing rules. A statistics server (stat-server) in the call center provides status of call center objects, among multiple status possibilities, to requesting applications in the processes of routing calls. Requesting applications, in addition to requests for object states, provide priority indications of object states desired. The stat-server provides the highest priority state to a requesting application. In the absence of a priority indication the stat-server provides status of objects according to a default indication.

  • Patent number: 6584192
Abstract: An efficient algorithm is presented for selecting an agent to service a task in a skills-based routing system. A set X is determined of all states of the boolean variables that contain the required skills for a task. A resume table of available agents is built, organized by the states of the N variables; each agent is represented in each state that includes all skills possessed by the agent. All available and qualified agents are determined from the resume table; those agents associated with a state of the resume table outside of the set X are disqualified. An agent is selected from those remaining. Preferably, an agent is selected having a minimum qualification level to service the task. One preferred way of doing this is to subtract from the number of terms in a canonical form of the required skills expression a number equal to the number of times the agent appears in the set of states X and picking an agent with the lowest result.

  • Patent number: 6581105
Abstract: An Internet Protocol Network Telephony call center having a plurality of agents for serving clients also processes e-mails addresses to the call center, but not to specific agents. An e-mail server receives and routes the e-mail, and includes a router and a database storing skill set information regarding agents. The router extracts information from the e-mails, matches key words in the extracted information with key words from the skill sets, and routes the e-mails to appropriate agents having the necessary skills to respond to the service requirements in the e-mails.

  • Patent number: 6578083
Abstract: An apparatus and method for monitoring data flow at a node on a network are disclosed. A memory location or “bucket” is allocated to each of a plurality of links and classes of service at the node. A free-running counter is incremented at a rate determined by the maximum allowable data rates on the various links and classes of service. When a data packet is received at a particular link and class of service, the corresponding memory location or bucket is adjusted or “leaked” by subtracting the present counter value from the present bucket contents. That difference is then added to the number of units of data, i.e., bytes or groups of bytes of data, contained in the incoming packet. That sum is then compared with a predetermined threshold determined by the allowable data rate associated with the link and class of service. If the threshold is exceeded, then the incoming data packet is marked accordingly.

  • Patent number: 6569064
Abstract: A ski exercising machine has a set of at least two parallel rails joined to cross members at the ends, the cross members providing support on a horizontal support surface, and joined to a central frame structure extending from the horizontal surface near the center to the rails, the rails extending from each cross member at each end upward at an acute angle with the horizontal rising to a maximum height in the center. A wheeled carriage rides on the rails, and there is at least one articulated footpad mounted to the wheeled carriage. A first power band having two ends, anchored at both ends by a clamp to a bottom surface of the frame structure beneath the wheeled carriage, passes over first rollers fixed to the cross members, and is anchored to the wheeled carriage, such that the power band is extended and exerts a restraining force toward the center of the machine as the wheeled carriage translates on the rails to either side of center.

  • Patent number: 6563788
Abstract: A method for promoting fairness in a communication center in response to requests for destination numbers (DNs) from network-level routers has steps of determining latency for requests from individual ones of the network-level routers, receiving a request from a first router for which latency is determined, assigning a fairness wait time to the request, the time determined as an inverse function of latency, and answering the request according to rules in effect only after the wait time has expired. In some cases requests arrive with priority, and priority is used a swell as latency in determining wait time. In other cases a second fairness time is imposed, after which a fairness algorithm is called to award a DN according to statistical history and cal priority. The system is useful for communication centers for connection-oriented telephone systems, Internet protocol systems, and for all sorts of digital messaging and mail systems.

  • Patent number: 6556671
Abstract: A fuzzy-logic routing system is provided for routing communications events to agents working in a telephony environment. The routing system uses parsed input taken from communications events upon arrival of those events to a telephony switch or IP data router to create needs expressions, which reflect the intended purposes of originators of the communications events. The system, using the needs expressions, performs a data search in a repository containing capabilities expressions, which reflect capabilities of service agents and/or automated systems responsible for handling the communications events. Upon suitably matching a needs expression with a capabilities expression, the system then routes the associated communications event to the associated agent. The system may be integrated to CTI telephony systems, data network telephony systems, or a combination thereof.
