  • Patent number: 5128482
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the production of 3-(1-amino-1,3-dicarboxy-3-hydroxy-but-4-yl) indole and certain salts and internal condensation products thereof. An unsaturated indolyl ester is reacted with ethylchloro(hydroxyimino)acetate in the presence of triethylamine in an organic solvent to cause a 1,3-dipolar addition reaction to form a di-ester. The di-ester is saponified to form a di-acid which di-acid is then reduced to form either the product indole or a salt thereof.

  • Patent number: 5127449
Abstract: An apparatus for filling containers includes a food product fill pump having a valve member and pump piston operated by respective cam drives. A servo-controlled drive motor drives the cams, whereby the speed of the pump operation can be controlled independently of an associated container conveyor. Significantly, the servo-control of the apparatus permits the pump piston of the food pump to be operated during its container-filling advancing stroke at a substantially constant speed, while the pumping cycle time is selectively varied by selectively varying the speed of the piston retraction stroke.

  • Patent number: 5125391
Abstract: A heat-retaining food service container includes an outer shell assembly, and an expandable inner container arrangement within which is disposed a mass of heat-fusible material. Attendant to heating of the heat-fusible material to an elevated temperature, the material undergoes a phase change and expansion. The expandable inner container arrangement accommodates such expansion of the fusible material, while avoiding any appreciable deformation of the outer shell assembly. The construction promotes efficient heat-transfer to food within the container.

  • Patent number: 5126052
Abstract: A method and apparatus for polishing a condensate is provided wherein the condensate contains both suspended and colloidally dispersed solid impurities, and also intermittent and variable levels of ionic impurities and dissolved silica. When the ionic impurities exceed a preselected level, a finely divided ion exchange resin mixture is first admixed with the condensate at a rate sufficient to reduce the level of such impurities to a preselected level within a preselected contact time period. Thereafter, the resulting condensate is passed through a membrane filtration device to remove such suspended and dispersed solid impurities. A simple, effective and reliable retrofittable apparatus adapted for use with BWR's fitted with precoat filter systems is provided.

  • Patent number: 5126258
Abstract: An analog-ligand having a conformation that substantially corresponds to the conformation of a hydrolytic transition state of an amide or ester reactant ligand is used to produce receptor molecules of predetermined specificity. The receptor molecules include an antibody combining site that binds to the analog-ligand and also to a reactant ligand and thereby stabilizes the tetrahedral carbon atom of the amide or ester hydrolysis transition state of that reactant ligand to catalytically hydrolyze the reactant ligand at a predetermined site.

  • Patent number: 5123575
Abstract: A container for storing and pouring a liquid, such as motor oil, has top, bottom, and lateral walls, a spout extending upwardly from the top wall, and two interior partitions, which are horizontal in an upright position of the container. Each partition defines an orifice extending between such partition and a side wall. The partitions divide the container into primary, secondary, and tertiary chambers. The primary chamber, which is the lowest chamber when the container is upright, has a volume sufficient to contain a predetermined quantity of motor oil. The secondary and tertiary chambers have substantially smaller volumes. The partitions prevent the primary chamber from being emptied of a liquid, when the container is rotated in a prescribed direction, unless the container is inverted sufficiently to incline, at an angle of approximately 8.degree. from horizontal, a planar surface being defined by each partition and facing the other partition.

  • Patent number: 5124218
Abstract: A photoconductor element is provided that has non-blurring latent image keeping memory which is suitable for multiple electrophotographic copying from a single imaging step. The element preferably incorporates a charge generation layer which comprises a phthalocyanine dye or pigment. The copying method involves simultaneous application of corona charge and an image exposure to the element followed by uniform irradiation of the element. Thereafter a plurality of copies can be made by the step sequence of toner deposition, toner transfer, and toner heat fusion to a receiver.

  • Patent number: 5124223
Abstract: Magnetic carrier core particles are provided which are coated with a Werner complex. The coating is readily accomplished by dispersing magnetic core particles in a solution of the Werner type complex. A hydroxyl group containing polymer can also be present which functions to enhance coating thickness. The Werner complexes are highly reactive, bond strongly to hydroxyl groups, and absorb readily into the core particles. Coated particles display excellent useful life capability and developer compositions containing such coated cores produce high resolution developed images.

  • Patent number: 5121997
Abstract: An easy-open container includes a membrane forming the top edge of the container and hermetically sealing the contents thereof. Elements for opening the container are disposed on the membrane, and includes a first bead of thermoplastic material and a first perforated line for tearing across the membrane. In one embodiment the membrane is disposed inward from the mouth of the bag, leaving portions of the bag walls extending upward beyond the container top edge to form guide rails which facilitate opening of the container. One guide rail is removed as the bag is opened and remaining portions of the bag walls are offset to enhance access to the bag contents. A membrane for sealing the mouth opening of a bag-like structure is also provided, as are methods for making an easy-open container and for making a membrane having the strcutures aforesaid.
