  • Patent number: 5131547
Abstract: A collapsible storage rack assembly includes a plurality of upstanding, generally inverted U-shaped frame members between which extend a plurality of vertically spaced, hingedly collapsible shelf assemblies. The storage rack construction is preassembled, and can be easily and quickly opened for use by moving the frame members away from each other. In a similar manner, the storage rack can be easily collapsed by moving the frame members toward each other and into juxtaposition, with the shelf assemblies collapsing by upward hinging movement. In the closed and collapsed position, the shelf assemblies are substantially completely nested within the frame members, thereby facilitating convenient handling, shipment, and storage of the construction.

  • Patent number: 5132123
Abstract: The invention relates to a feed and to a process for its production. According to the process, a fatty substance is converted to the form of a metal salt of a fatty acid or fatty acids, and is combined with a carrier such as a concentrated feed. In the salt form the salt is protected in such a way that it will not disturb the disintegration taking place in the rumen of a ruminant, but it is, nevertheless, exploitable by the digestive system of the animal. What is essential in the invention is that the metal salt is formed into a three-dimensional matrix so that a substantially liquid fat or fatty acids remain in the cavities of the matrix. In a matrix form such as this the fat is fluid, and it can be transferred and batched like a liquid. It is possible to use vegetable oils which contain unsaturated fats and fatty acids for the production of a feed, whereby the fats and fatty acids can be caused, by means of the protection, to pass through the digestive system of a ruminant to the milk produced.

  • Patent number: 5131669
Abstract: A bumper assembly for a shopping cart having a wire basket with horizontal wires bent so as to define a front corner of the basket. The assembly comprises a resilient, extruded, polymeric bumper having front, back, and side apertures extending longitudinally through the bumper, which is slotted so as to accommodate such wires at the front corner. The assembly comprises a pin extending through the back aperture with an interference fit so as to confine such wires between the pin and a front wall of the bumper. The front wall, which partly bounds the front aperture, is spaced from such wires when the front wall is unstressed. The front and side apertures lend enhanced cushioning ability to the bumper, which can yield in flexure, as well as in compression.

  • Patent number: 5132090
Abstract: An apparatus transfers heat for the purpose of purifying raw feed liquid, separating dissolved gases from liquids, vaporizing heat transfer fluids or containing and regulating biological/chemical reactions. The feed liquid is directed into an evaporator module submerged in a solar pond or other body of heated liquid. The evaporator module includes a rotating housing through which a plurality of spaced apart substantially horizontal open ended heat transfer tubes extend. A heating liquid is directed through the heat transfer tubes. The feedwater is distributed within the evaporator module so as to cause the feedwater to descend into heat transferring contact with the heat transfer tubes and thereby vaporize a portion of the feedwater. A preferred embodiment of the evaporator module is disclosed which includes cavitation fins for urging the heated liquid through the evaporator module.

  • Patent number: 5127449
Abstract: An apparatus for filling containers includes a food product fill pump having a valve member and pump piston operated by respective cam drives. A servo-controlled drive motor drives the cams, whereby the speed of the pump operation can be controlled independently of an associated container conveyor. Significantly, the servo-control of the apparatus permits the pump piston of the food pump to be operated during its container-filling advancing stroke at a substantially constant speed, while the pumping cycle time is selectively varied by selectively varying the speed of the piston retraction stroke.

  • Patent number: 5128482
Abstract: The invention provides a process for the production of 3-(1-amino-1,3-dicarboxy-3-hydroxy-but-4-yl) indole and certain salts and internal condensation products thereof. An unsaturated indolyl ester is reacted with ethylchloro(hydroxyimino)acetate in the presence of triethylamine in an organic solvent to cause a 1,3-dipolar addition reaction to form a di-ester. The di-ester is saponified to form a di-acid which di-acid is then reduced to form either the product indole or a salt thereof.

  • Patent number: 5125391
Abstract: A heat-retaining food service container includes an outer shell assembly, and an expandable inner container arrangement within which is disposed a mass of heat-fusible material. Attendant to heating of the heat-fusible material to an elevated temperature, the material undergoes a phase change and expansion. The expandable inner container arrangement accommodates such expansion of the fusible material, while avoiding any appreciable deformation of the outer shell assembly. The construction promotes efficient heat-transfer to food within the container.

  • Patent number: 5126052
Abstract: A method and apparatus for polishing a condensate is provided wherein the condensate contains both suspended and colloidally dispersed solid impurities, and also intermittent and variable levels of ionic impurities and dissolved silica. When the ionic impurities exceed a preselected level, a finely divided ion exchange resin mixture is first admixed with the condensate at a rate sufficient to reduce the level of such impurities to a preselected level within a preselected contact time period. Thereafter, the resulting condensate is passed through a membrane filtration device to remove such suspended and dispersed solid impurities. A simple, effective and reliable retrofittable apparatus adapted for use with BWR's fitted with precoat filter systems is provided.
