  • Patent number: 4317095
Abstract: A switching device, with a mechanism similar to that of a D'Arsonval galvanometer, acting responsive to current flow in a primary control circuit to close a switch in a secondary controlled circuit. The primary control circuit includes dual oppositely wound coils, and relative pivotal mounting is provided between the coils and permanent magnets. The pivotal movement therebetween, upon current flow, closes the switch.

  • Patent number: 4262379
Abstract: A marker buoy attached to an object such as a lobster or crab trap by a latch and released by a trigger struck by a falling weight. A sealed buoy compartment contains a first permanent magnet holding the weight in upper position by a supportive pole relationship to the poles of a second permanent magnet on the weight and releasing the weight when the first magnet is pivoted to a relative position of poles not sufficiently supportive of the weight. The first magnet is pivoted by an electric motor controlled by an electric clock. Setting of the clock and other operations are accomplished without disturbing compartment seals by an external hand-held magnet operating on internal magnetic reed switches. A line tethers the buoy to the object when the latch is released.

  • Patent number: 4223752
Abstract: A scale including a rectangular base frame supporting on opposite sides horizontally disposed torsion bars having their central portions secured to said frame and including a horizontal, plate-like rectangular platform superposed to said frame and bars. End portion of said bars support said platform by upstanding, threaded members engaged in said bars, eccentric seats on threaded member heads, and balls on said seats on which the platform rests. General platform leveling can be achieved by full-turn rotation of the threaded members and scale calibration adjustment can be facilitated by less than full-turn adjustment of said threaded members thereby shifting the locations of the balls along the torsion bars. Each torsion bar end portion has an upper and a lower strain gage for a total of eight. Two modified Wheatstone bridges use the strain gages for all resistors of the bridges whereby all bridge resistors are active and the two bridges form the sole electrical means to measure load on the scale.

  • Tag
    Patent number: 4215497
Abstract: Heart-shaped tag formed by a pair of translucent, reddish plastic pieces having flanges secured together. One plastic piece has retroreflective facets and the other is transparent. An identification member sandwiched between the plastic pieces so that material thereon can be read through the transparent piece. The identification member being installed through a slot in the plastic pieces and snapping into locked position. The identification member having a portion extending out of the slot and an opening in that portion for securing to another object to tag the same.

  • Patent number: 4214768
Abstract: In a skateboard truck with a central depending axle housing having extending to each side an axle on which a wheel is disposed and secured by a nut, a protective plastic shield covering the lowest portion of the housing and extending substantially from wheel to wheel. The shield is secured in place by a washer on each side disposed on the axle inside of the wheel and having a first flange fitting the end of the housing and having a second flange receiving a generally semicircular, reduced-diameter adjacent end of the shield.

  • Patent number: 4209877
Abstract: The combination with a cast iron cooking utensil of the type having an integral handle extending radially therefrom, of a two-part insulating housing enclosing the handle to achieve lower temperatures for manual handling. The hollow housing, with inner walls spaced from the handle, is made of low heat-transferring material. The handle is secured in place in the housing by a pair of locking plates, at the inboard end of the housing, with paired jaws gripping the handle, and by a medial key with a necked center engaged in the slot in the handle, which slot is elongated longitudinally of the handle. The locking plates extend between upper and lower housing parts and countersunk bolts tense the jaws on the handle. A plate in the outboard portion of the housing holds the parts apart, which are secured to the plate by countersunk fasteners. A baffle, depending from the inboard end of the housing, directs heat away from the housing.

  • Patent number: 4198040
Abstract: An adjustable lid for a pan including: (a) a central circular member and an outer annulus, (b) annular ribbing reinforcing said lid and engaging said pan against dislodgement, (c) the bottom of the lid sloping to a location medial of the edge and center of the central member so that condensation will tend to drip from that location into the pan, and (d) securing means between the central member and annulus including undercut slots on one and ears on the other latching by relative rotation of the central member and annulus, and manually operable spring clip means holding the members secured.

  • Patent number: 4163312
Abstract: Metal melted and poured into molds, mounted on a conveyor, at a first station. Metal cools to rolling temperature during conveyance to second station where hydraulic ram ejects ingots from molds. Ingots are immediately fed to rolling mill. Molds have interior refractory linings. Embedded in linings are electrical resistance heating elements that heat exterior side surfaces of ingots, between first and second stations, to prevent those surfaces from reducing below rolling temperatures while interior temperatures of ingots reduce to levels suitable for rolling.

  • Patent number: 4135764
Abstract: Vanes in air openings in wheel disks impel air to cool wheel assembly. In dual paired wheels, such as on trucks, vanes are struck out parts of plate-like generally circular bodies interposed between wheel disks and secured by studs and nuts used to secure wheels on wheel hub.

  • Patent number: 4127905
Abstract: The space over a shower or tube enclosure, of the type made in one-piece of fiber-reinforced plastic and having walls extending up to about the level of a rail supporting sliding doors, is closed with a dome and a wall extending from the rail to the bathroom ceiling, so that no finish is required over studs and ceiling joists in that space and so that warm and moisture-laden air can't escape from the enclosure, via that space, into the remainder of the bathroom.

  • Patent number: 4127774
Abstract: Plastic, color-coded X-ray marker with a cavity containing mercury. The cavity has deeper central portion and shallower branches, relative to the face of the marker. An X-ray negative shows the mercury in the central portion if the X-ray film was flat when exposed and shows the mercury in one or more branches indicating up and down direction if the X-ray film was upright when exposed. The cavity preferably has an asterisk shape whereby the mercury forms an arrow shape indicating up direction on the negative when the film was upright when exposed. Lead indicia indicated right or left and operator's initials. Markers are secured to film holders by a multiplicity of suction cups.

  • Patent number: 4122666
Abstract: Each chain link is punched out of a plastic sheet. The link has a closed form with a central opening and is divided on a line at one end of the opening. The link ends at the dividing line have interengaging shapes preventing separation as long as the link ends remain in the same plane. The plastic material can be flexed to spread the link laterally of the faces in joining one link to another. A slot in each link at the opposite end from its dividing line receives an adjacent link to hold the interlocking ends thereof in the same plane to thus prevent separation. The links are variously shaped to achieve different decorative effects.
