  • Patent number: 8334571
Abstract: An ESD protection device includes a first well of a first semiconductor type disposed in a substrate of a second semiconductor type forming a first diode. A second well of the second semiconductor type is formed in the substrate to form a second diode with the first well. A first plurality of doped regions of the first semiconductor type are formed in an upper surface of the first well. A second plurality of doped regions of the second semiconductor type are formed in the upper surface of the first well forming a third diode with the first well. A plurality of STI regions are formed in the upper surface of the first well. Each STI region is disposed between a doped region of the first and second semiconductor types. The third diode provides a current bypass when an ESD voltage spike is received at one of the first or second plurality of doped regions.

  • Patent number: 8336009
Abstract: A method for verifying functionality of a system-on-chip (SoC) comprises modeling a system block in first and second models at a first level and a second level lower than the first level, respectively. A stimulus transaction is generated at a first testbench at the first level. The stimulus transaction is transmitted from the first testbench to a second testbench at the second level. The stimulus transaction is transformed into a first response transaction, using the first model, at the first level. The stimulus transaction received at the second testbench is transformed into a second response transaction, using the second model, at the second level. The first and second response transactions are stored in first and second response queues, respectively. Functionality of the SoC at the first and second levels is verified based on a comparison at the first testbench between head entries of the first and second response queues.

  • Patent number: 8329425
Abstract: Fast and simple method of detecting the presence of chloramphenicol, a harmful compound if present in food products. The method makes use of a mutant chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) and a fluorophore-linked chloramphenicol in a system where chloramphenicol and the fluorophore-linked chloramphenicol competes for the active site of the mutant CAT. Because the fluorophore-linked chloramphenicol reduces its fluorescence upon binding to the active site and vice versa increases its fluorescence upon being displaced from the active site by the presence of unmodified chloramphenicol in a sample, the increase of fluorescence caused by a testing sample indicates the presence of chloramphenicol.

  • Patent number: 8331953
Abstract: A system and method for estimating the location of a mobile station that receives signals from a plurality of base stations. The base station timing offsets may be estimated utilizing an observed time difference of arrival value at the mobile between a first signal received from a first base station and a second signal received from a second base station. An initial location for the mobile is randomly selected and an estimated location is determined using the selected initial location, the observed time difference of arrival value, and an iterative search algorithm. The estimated location may be stored if the estimated location is within a predetermined area. In addition, for each such estimated location, the applicable base station time offsets that relate to this location may be updated to generate a current best estimate. A calculated location for the mobile may be determined from stored estimated locations and the current base station time offset estimates.

  • Patent number: 8331954
Abstract: A system and method for a network analysis system operating in a wireless communication system with repeaters is disclosed. Embodiments of the system and method enable the network analysis system to determine if signals being received by the network receivers arrive directly from a target mobile appliance or if the signals are passing through a repeater. The repeaters, through an augmentation, measure attributes of a received signal and based on these attributes the system determine whether the signal is served by a repeater or other network device.

  • Patent number: 8328491
Abstract: An axially expanding spacer (10) has respective first and second spacer rings (11,12) with complementary helical ramped faces (16,17) and abutment faces (18,19). By relative rotation of the spacer rings (11,12), the height of the spacer (10), between annular faces (14,15) can be expanded or contracted. Compression springs (20) between the abutment faces (18,19) urge the spacer (10) to its “expanded” configuration.

  • Patent number: 8330571
Abstract: A vehicle electronic portable key system including a master key and sub-key. A retainer is arranged in the vehicle to retain the sub-key. A control unit determines whether the master key or sub-key is located in a vehicle interior or exterior wireless communicatable area. When the key is located in one of the wireless communicatable areas, the control unit permits various operations of the vehicle in accordance with the communicable area in which the key is located. The control unit determines that the sub-key is in a lent state if the sub-key is removed from the retainer when the master key is located in the interior wireless communicatable area. In a state in which the sub-key is located in one of the wireless communicatable areas after removal from the retainer, the control unit limits the operations of the vehicle unless the sub-key is determined as being in the lent state.

  • Patent number: 8331956
Abstract: A system and method for estimating a location of a wireless device in a wireless communication system having a plurality of nodes and a plurality of location measurement units (“LMUs”). A set of signal samples from a first wireless device and a second wireless device may be collected by one or more LMUs in a search window. A first time of arrival (“TOA”) is determined, and a second search window is estimated as a function of the first TOA. A second TOA may be determined within the second search window at a second node or one of the LMUs from the set of signal samples. A range estimate of the wireless device may then be determined, and an estimated location of the wireless device may be determined as a function of the first uplink TOA, the second uplink TOA, or the range estimate and second TOA.

  • Patent number: 8328816
Abstract: A femoral gauge for sizing a femoral head implant and locating osteophytes or structural abnormalities comprising a gauge portion, the gauge portion having a concave gauge surface and an opposing back surface, the gauge surface defined by a pair of opposing lengthwise sides and a pair of widthwise sides, the gauge surface having a substantially spherical contour, the spherical contour sized for selection of a correspondingly sized femoral head implant, and a handle portion extending from the gauge portion, the handle portion positioned and configured for use in positioning the gauge surface. A plurality of different sized gauges can be provided. Areas of potential infringement can be located by rotating the femoral gauge around the juncture of the natural or implant femoral head and the natural femoral neck. Areas of impingement are removed until the femoral gauge can be rotated around the juncture without lifting off of the femoral head.

  • Patent number: 8331867
Abstract: A channel estimation and prediction unit 18 estimates a channel and predicts a channel for a next transmission slot. An SVD unit 19 performs singular value decomposition on each channel prediction value. An eigenvalue calculation unit 20 calculates an eigenvalue in a slot, whereas an eigenmode quality calculation unit 21 calculates quality of each eigenmode based on the eigenvalue obtained from the eigenvalue calculation unit 20 and outputs the quality to a transmission adaptive control unit 22. The transmission adaptive control unit 22 recognizes frequency of channel variation based on variation of quality of a lower eigenmode and the likes, and corrects quality of a higher eigenmode to be a smaller value according to the frequency of channel variation being larger with respect to a slot length.

  • Patent number: 8326317
Abstract: A system and method of determining calibration data at non-calibrated location points is disclosed. A mobile station may be geo-located at most locations, if not all locations, within communication range of one or more serving and/or neighboring base stations of a mobile network. Calibration data may be collected and stored in memory via a data collection procedure. Known calibration data for locations proximate to the mobile station may be necessary when attempting to geo-locate the mobile station. A geographical region may be calibrated via a standard calibration data collection procedure, however, various obstacles, such as, buildings, mountains, ponds etc. may inevitably create deficiencies in the calibration data for one or more areas of the region. Certain techniques may be applied to estimate the calibration data of areas that have not been properly calibrated.
