Abstract: A system and method for generating an alert signal for a trailer. Proper truck/trailer matching is based on a proximity analysis between position reports for a truck and position reports for a trailer. In one embodiment, this proximity analysis is triggered by a detection of movement in a trailer. In the proximity analysis, unexpected deviations in proximity between a truck and a trailer would lead to a generation of an alert signal that is sent to the appropriate management system for investigation.
Abstract: The present invention, generally speaking, provides a broad-based solution for acquisition, processing and distribution of media objects including pictures (images), movies, videos, graphics, sound clips, etc via the Internet or the like. And specifically, it is a solution to such systems for use in applications wherein there are multiple originators of media objects that will be viewed in multiple web sites having different viewing requirements. A browser-based prepare and post tool prepares and submits media objects from inside a standard browser to a remote server. A Media Acquisition, Processing and Distribution (MAPD) system receives these media objects, processes them to meet specific requirements, and delivers them for integration into remote databases. MAPD system services include media object submission, processing, hosting and mirroring. The hosting service delivers a media object URL to a remote database, allowing the media object to be requested and served by the media object server.

Abstract: A system and method for producing a family of power modules having a common footprint that enables the customer to flexibly choose a power module size without incurring the costs of a relayout of a system design. In one embodiment, a board layout can be designed using a selected power module footprint size that supports an installation of any of a plurality of power modules. The power module that is used in a board layout can be selected based on a measurement of an amount of power consumed by the one or more loads.
Abstract: A system and method for secure communication for power over Ethernet (PoE) between a computing device and a switch. Various power management information can be used as inputs in a process for determining a power request/priority. This power management information can be communicated in Layer 2, Layer 3, or higher messaging during initial power allocation and ongoing power reallocation. Encryption of such messaging enables confidentiality, secure allocation processes, and prevention of denial of service attacks.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling the delivery of power to a powered device in a Power over Ethernet Broad Reach (PoE-BR) application. Cabling power loss in a PoE-BR application is related to the resistance of the cable itself. A PHY can be designed to measure electrical characteristics (e.g., insertion loss, cross talk, length, etc.) of the Ethernet cable to enable determination of the cable resistance. The determined resistance in a broad reach cable can be used in increasing a power budget allocated to a power source equipment port.

Abstract: A system and method for using a single antenna for active and passive radio functions. A wireless communication device includes a passive component that can be read using an antenna when the wireless communication device is in a low power sleep mode. When it is determined that a higher capacity is needed, the wireless communication device activates an active component. Activation of the active component includes a switching of a connection of the antenna from the passive component to the active component.
Abstract: A midspan power sourcing equipment (PSE) for operation with power over Ethernet (PoE). The midspan PSE provides powering over wire pairs that are also used for data communication. To ensure compatibility with legacy Ethernet devices, the ports used for transmission of data are designed with a low effective impedance at a frequency of operation.
Abstract: A midspan power sourcing equipment (PSE) that supports four-pair powering in a power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. The midspan PSE can provide power to two separate end devices using a single cable. To ensure compatibility with legacy Ethernet devices, the ports used for transmission of data are designed with a sufficient inductance level or a low effective impedance at a frequency of operation.
Abstract: A system and method for asset tracking and monitoring using antenna diversity. Antenna diversity ensures that the mobile terminal maintains good visibility of a satellite throughout the transport route. In one example, a first antenna is mounted on a first side of an asset transporter (e.g., flatbed trailer) and a second antenna is mounted on a second side of the asset transporter. A selector/combiner in the mobile terminal enables multiple antennas to be leveraged in the satellite communication process.
Abstract: A system and method for enabling power over Ethernet (PoE) for legacy devices. Legacy devices often represent a large installed base of devices. This installed base of devices (e.g., mobile computing devices) may have little or no PoE functionality. It is a feature of the present invention that an external device (e.g., dongle) can be used to retrofit such an installed base of devices for use with state of the art PoE functionality.
Abstract: A system and method for operating system power management in a computing device for power over Ethernet (PoE). Computing devices such as portable computers or embedded devices having an operating system (OS) can leverage power management features in an OS. Power management state information such as user parameters, computing device parameters, application parameters, IT parameters, network parameters, etc. can be used to generate power requests that are acted upon by power sourcing equipment.

Abstract: A system and method for bad weave detection for inverse telecine. To detect a bad weave artifact, the number of reversals of the difference polarity between successive lines within a column of samples is counted. The count of the number of reversals of the difference polarity is referred to as the polarity change count. In the execution phase, the polarity change count can be used by a bad weave detector to take a system out of lock. The polarity change count can also be used during the detection phase to detect a particular cadence.
Abstract: A system and method for measuring a cable resistance in a power over Ethernet (PoE) application. A short circuit module in a powered device is designed to produce a short circuit effect upon receipt of a cable resistance detection voltage. The cable resistance detection voltage can be designed to be greater than a voltage for detection or classification and less than a voltage for powering of the powered device. The measurement of the current at a time when a short circuit effect is produced at the powered device enables a calculation of the actual resistance of the cable on a given PoE port.
Abstract: A system and method for continual cable thermal monitoring using cable characteristic considerations in Power over Ethernet (PoE) applications. Cable heating in PoE applications is detected through changes in electrical characteristics of the cable itself. By periodically monitoring the electrical characteristics such as insertion loss or cross talk of the cable, it can be determined whether the cable has exceeded certain thermal operating thresholds.

Abstract: A system and method for automatically discovering total transistor resistance in a hybrid power over Ethernet (PoE) architecture. A critical factor for a PoE system is the total resistance of the power FET. Typical PoE systems consist of a single power FET that may be integrated with the controller or external to the controller. In a hybrid architecture the PoE system consists of both an internal power FET and an external power FET. The external power FET can be used to customize a design to meet a particular application or need. The total resistance in the hybrid architecture can be automatically determined using voltage and current measurements of the internal and external power FETs.

Abstract: A system and method for adjusting a level of compression for endpoint devices. Endpoint devices in a network can stream audio/video traffic over a network. Such a connection between the endpoint devices can be reserved with guarantees of latency being obtained. Latency guarantees across multiple intermediary switches can be used to define a compression level for the end devices.
Abstract: A dual purpose serializer/de-serializer (SerDes) for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communication. A configurable SerDes can be designed to operate in one of a plurality of operating modes. Selection between the plurality of operating modes can be based on information received via a management interface. In one example, the various operating modes can be defined with different locking times and jitter characteristics.
Abstract: A multi-speed burst mode serializer/de-serializer (SerDes) is configurable and can operate in one of a plurality of operating modes. The plurality of operating modes correspond to the reception of signals from optical network units that operate at different nominal speeds. These various modes of operation can enable a single SerDes design to apply to a variety of speeds and network configurations (e.g., point-to-point or point-to-multipoint). In one example, the design can be initially configured for operation with a single ONT or a network of ONTs at a single speed, or can be dynamically configured during operation for use with a network of ONTs operating at different speeds.
