Abstract: A photodetector for measuring the position of an incident light beam on an active surface area of the detector includes an inactive area and a concentric stray light absorbing area, both of which outwardly surround the light-absorbing active area. All light incident on the stray light-absorbing area and the inactive area will generate a photoelectric current which is conducted to an earth ground via an electrode in the stray-light area. An electrical signal from the active area representing a position of the measured light in the active area will be unaffected by any stray light incident on the detector externally of the active area.

The tool includes a shaped spindle on which there is axially inserted a heated end of the thermoplastic pipe, and a first and second mechanical body that receives pressurized fluids which act on the pipe. The heated pipe end is plastically deformed in the region of the shaped portion of the spindle to form an annular seat and bell portion of the belling.
Abstract: A hydraulic shock absorber is provided with a cylinder formed of a straight pipe, and inside the cylinder, opposite end portions of a base piston are fixed to the inner face by a pair of retainer member C-rings so that a free piston can be received in a lower portion of the cylinder.
Abstract: A process and device for removing and oxidizing organic substances from an extracted air stream. The air stream is flowed through a filter which adsorbs the organic material, where the airstream is bypassed around a catalyst until the filter is saturated. At saturation a heater supplies heat to the filter to desorb the organic material. The catalyst is heated by another heater at the desorption period and receives the organic material and extracted air stream to oxidize the organic substances.
Abstract: A centrifugal type refrigerant compressor comprises at least one impeller (17, 18), electric motor (27) and drive shaft (22) mounted on non-lubricated radial bearings, such as magnetic or foil gas bearings (23, 24), with axial locating means (26) associated with the shaft (22) to restrict axial movement thereof with respect to the compressor housing (12). The housing (12) encases the motor (27) and the compressor and defines the gas inlet (31) and the gas outlet (16) passageways. Gas throttling means (34) is provided in the inlet (31), and a control means (30) varies the speed of the motor (27) and the throttling means (34) to control the compression ratio and mass flow through the compressor in accordance with the refrigeration load.
Abstract: A method of automatic washing of vehicles, wherein recirculation and reuse of a substantial proportion of the washing liquid takes place during the washing procedure proper and wherein a principle of counter-flow is used, whereby the vehicle will be washed in a dirtier washing liquid during early treatment states than in later ones. The vehicle is positioned in at least one treatment station, where a plurality of the treatment steps are then carried out, and in the first treatment step treatment liquid is supplied from a first treatment tank and is sprayed onto the vehicle together with additives, if any, and together with impurities originating from the vehicle the liquid thus supplied flows through openings in the floor and is returned to the first treatment tank.
Abstract: There is provided a natural resonant speaker adopting the resonant mechanism of a stringed instrument such as the violin, viola, cello, double bass, or acoustic guitar. It can be said that the stringed instrument is a natural resonant speaker which shows excellent sound frequency characteristics and stereophonic effect by relying on a natural resonant phenomenon. Therefore, the natural resonant speaker outputs a sound signal transferred from an amplifier of an audio system as a stereo sound by adopting a structure which is the same as or similar to the natural resonant structure of the stringed instrument. The natural resonant speaker has a speaker body employing a general figure eight shaped stringed instrument body structure and having at least one resonant hole in a frontal plate thereof, and a vibratory unit for transforming an electrical sound signal into a mechanical sound vibration between resonant holes of the frontal plate.
Abstract: Arrangement for a goods hoist which has an operating control capable of being actuated by a driving device and is situated between a load device and the driving device. The driving device is controlled by electronics that communicate with a transmitter contained in an operating controller.
Abstract: A railcar cushioning device includes an elastomeric spring and a hydraulic shock absorber member. The fluid accumulator is located outside of and above the fluid chambers. The accumulator is in communication with the fluid chamber in a non-stroked position, causing entrapped air to be displaced by the fluid, into the accumulator. Free of air, the shock absorber immediately responds to impact forces. The elastomeric spring reduces peak impact forces and returns the piston of the shock absorber to its non-stroked position. The elastomeric spring also absorbs draft forces.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for operating a drive installation unit for a vehicle which reduces environmentally harmful gases while improving drive acceleration and deceleration performance by integrating an electric motor and power converter with an internal combustion engine.
Abstract: A roll outer layer material for hot rolling includes, as analyzed in weight percent, of 2.5-4.0% C, 6.0-20% Cr, 3.0-10.0% V, 0.6-5.0% Nb, 2.0-15% Mo, 3.0% or below Si, 3.0% or below Mn, C, V, Nb and Cr satisfying a following formula (1),10.5(%).ltoreq.6.5.C(%)-1.3.V(%)-0.7.Nb(%).ltoreq.2.Cr(%)-2(%)(1), and the balance being Fe and incidental impurities. A method of manufacturing a roll for hot rolling includes the steps of centrifugally casting an outer layer material having the above composition, centrifugally casting graphite steel containing 0.5% or above of C as an intermediate layer, and casting an axis material which is a spheroidal graphite cast iron, a flake graphite cast iron or a graphite steel. C is present in the intermediate layer in an amount which satisfies a following formula (2),C (intermediate layer).gtoreq.2.0-0.5 (C-0.2 V-0.

Abstract: An apparatus attaches to an automobile brake pedal lever in such a way as to allow a statuesquely small automobile operator the ability to adjustably control the total brake pedal length so that he can comfortably remain a safe distance from the steering wheel while still reaching the brake. This control apparatus has a leaf spring element that provides temporary self-supporting capability so that the optimum arrangement can be found before the controller is more stably connected to the existing brake pedal.
Abstract: A liquid filter housing and filter bag assembly includes a reticulated basket fitted within a housing chamber and supported by the housing, and a replacable filter bag positioned within the reticulated basket. The filter bag includes a flexible flange which terminates with a bulbous lip which frictionally engages the housing to secure and seal the bag at the housing and basket.
Abstract: An apparatus for applying a high temperature refractory material to the wall surface of a coking chamber in a coke battery is equipped with: a moving carriage which is provided on the side of a coke pushing machine of the coking chamber and which is free to move back and forth outside the coke battery in the direction of the length of the coking chamber; a horizontal lance which has a trailing end attached to the moving carriage and which is free to move back and forth horizontally from one end to the other end in the direction of the length at the bottom of the coking chamber; a vertical lance which is provided in the direction of the height of the coking chamber at the leading end of the horizontal lance; and spray nozzles for applying a high temperature refractory material which are arranged in tiers in such a manner that they are directed to the wall surface of the coking chamber in the direction of the height of the vertical lance.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the harvesting of royal jelly. The method comprises the use of a first matrix of cell-like structures in an arrangement typical of normal worker bee cells which have interconnected plugs placed in the back of the matrix. A queen bee may then lay this matrix of cells with eggs. Upon the eggs turning into larvae, the plugs may be removed and the plugs are provided in interconnected sets such that each set provides plugs for each alternate cell in the first matrix of cells. These plugs may then be fitted to a second matrix of cells which provide larger, queen-like cells at a spacing of substantially the same as the alternate cells in the first matrix. The second matrix may then be placed in a queenless hive for the bees to fill the larger cells of the second matrix with royal jelly which may then be harvested.
Abstract: A mechanism for simply changing the roller width of a roller straightener for straightening the warp of rolled sections, having two or more straightening rolls and a mechanism for permitting at least one straightening roll to move in a direction parallel with a spindle using the rotational force of the spindle as a drive force.
