  • Patent number: 5278553
Abstract: A method and apparatus for warning a motor vehicle operator of an approaching emergency motor vehicle having a sounding siren. The method comprehends selecting two frequencies A'-B' that fall within the siren frequency range and providing a microphone for detecting the sound signals including the siren signals and filtering out the electrical siren signals by a band pass filter. The selected A' and B' frequency signals are individually detected to provide output indications thereof representative of an A'-B' frequency transition. The output indications are processed for determining the preselected number of frequency transitions and producing a warning signal representative of the approaching emergency vehicle. The warning signal is utilized to give the motor vehicle operator an audible alarm and/or a visible alarm and deenergizing the motor vehicle's sound system.

  • Patent number: 5164053
Abstract: An electrochemical gas sensor having a solid ionic conductive electrolyte therein and adapted to sense trace levels of reactive gases in the parts per million range. The electrochemical sensing cell has a pair of catalytic electrodes attached to the opposite sides of the solid electrolyte. The sensing cell is supported and contained to permit the distribution of reactant gases over the electrode surfaces for reacting thereat and thereby providing an external electrical current flow representative of the quantity of the reactant gas undergoing sensing.

  • Patent number: 5085760
Abstract: An electrochemical gas sensor having a high surface area gas diffusing electrode defined for diffusing gases to be sensed to reach the catalyst surfaces of the electrode to provide the cathodic reduction of oxygen in a gas mixture undergoing sensing thereat. The sensor is adapted to sense trace levels of reactive gases in parts per billion. The sensor provides for ready purging of reactive gases from the electrolyte solution for the cell. The cell is essentially insensitive to the rate of flow of gas delivered to the cathode electrode and the minor mechanical stirring of the electrolyte solutions leading to output signals of improved signal-to-noise ratios more accurately signalling the concentrations of reactive gases, such as oxygen in gas mixtures.

  • Patent number: 4980984
Abstract: A flexible highway safety sign capable of being rolled up for storage and portability and mounting a high-way flag. The safety sign is useful with flexible frame members that allow the mounted sign to bend in response to winds and wind gusts without tipping over and taking a set. The frame members include a clamping assembly for mounting a plurality of flag arms with the highway sign. The clamping assembly permits a pair of flag arms to be pivotally secured thereto between a flat displaying position and a storage position. The storage position allows the flag arms to assume a side-by-side relationship with the folded frame members to the sign to permit the flexible sign to be wreapped around the members for storage and/or transport.

  • Patent number: 4926163
Abstract: A method and apparatus for advance warning signaling to a motorist of an ice condition on a driving surface. The method steps include mounting a plurality of traffic signalling devices along a driving surface for sensing the prevailing temperatures and thereby continuously signal a motor vehicle operator of the changes in temperature as he approaches a driving surface subject to freezing to permit him to take any necessary precautionary corrective action in driving the motor vehicle. The signalling devices utilize thermostat elements for sensing a narrow temperature range adjacent the freezing temperature and provide visible signals, preferably two colors for signalling a warm or nonhazardous temperature, a cold temperature signalling a frozen driving surface or a combination or mixture of the colored signals to permit the motor vehicle operator to be warned, in advance, as he approaches a driving surface that is becoming colder, leading to a stretch of a driving surface that may be frozen.
