Abstract: A detonation detection system for internal combustion piston engines which senses pressure within each cylinder through a piezoelectric force transducers installed under each spark plug producing pressure charged signals which signal is converted from inline charge to voltage. The signal is then passed through a gating comparator which segregates out the low pressure signals associated with intake and exhaust strokes. The signal then passes through a high-pass filter which removes normal combustion pressures. The filtered signal is then processed through an RMS (root mean square) to a DC converter which continuously computes the instantaneous square of the input signal, averages it, and takes the square root of the result to provide a DC voltage proportional to the RMS of the input. The DC signal is then processed through a peak and hold circuit which holds the peak signal for an adjustable reset-time period.
Abstract: A method of forming corrugated rings of sheet metal which include the steps of: punching a circular area in the sheet material; punching a plurality of kidney-shaped areas concentrically spaced around the circular hole forming an annular area still connected to the sheet material; deforming the annual area between two mating dies having equal radius radial corrugations therein to corrugate the annual area and concentrically punching the corrugating annular area between a circular punch and a corresponding die, the punch and die having mating cutting surfaces which are corrugated and mate with the corrugated annual area of the sheet thereby forming a circular ring having radial corrugations.
Abstract: A closed fuel and used motor oil mixing system that is permanently attached to the oil pan and fuel system, and adds oil to the fuel system for combustion with the fuel. The attachment points to the fuel system can be along the return fuel line for deposit into the fuel tank, directly to the fuel tank, or to a drip oiler which drips the oil directly into the top cylinder areas. The system pumps used oil from the oil pan and filters out the particulate matter held in suspension in the oil, before delivering the filtered oil into the fuel system. A valve prevents oil from exiting the oil pan until desired.
Abstract: A sea current generator aquarium including an air-tight water chamber located at one end of the aquarium with an opening into the aquarium extending across the bottom of the chamber. A constant flow air pump connected to the top of the water chamber for pumping air therein and expelling water therefrom out of said opening into the aquarium and an air valve positioned in an duct connecting the top of the water chamber to atmosphere in an actuating means for cycling the air valve from an opened to a closed position whereby in its opened position, the air valve and duct exceed the capacity of the pump and allow the elevated water column in the aquarium to move back into the water chamber through said opening until the water level is stabilized and thereby creating a back and forth current of water within the bottom regions of the aquarium.
Abstract: The system is an on-board and in-line system for blending two fuels of known characteristics to achieve instantaneous in-line change in the octane rating of fuel flowing to the engine. The blending system provides a means of precise in-line blending of two reference fuels in an on-board aircraft or land vehicle installation. Based on appropriate calibration blending curves, the system will provide instantaneous indications of both lean and rich performance ratings of the fuel. Instantaneous lean and rich performance ratings of the blended fuel streams may be recorded concurrently with engine parameters and ambient test data, and with combustion knock severity numbers derived from the previously mentioned detonation indication system.
Abstract: An aircraft variable pitch propeller blade utilized in subsonic flight at relatively slow turning applications with relatively high power coefficients. The blade in plan form is tapered at both ends with the maximum chord approximate the mid station of the blade, the leading edge of the blade being swept behind the longitudinal axis of the blade near its tip and the trailing edge is convex and essentially straight from its maximum chord outward to the tip.
Abstract: A hemostatic tampon kit including an oval-shaped tampon adopted for easy insertion into the nasal cavity by a layman, composed of a compressed synthetic sponge adapted to expand upon contact with an aqueous fluid, the tampon includes a string attached thereto for anchoring to a nasal bandage placed over the nostrils of the user which includes an absorbent drip pad and an attachment element on the bandage for engaging and holding the tampon string. A sealable container of liquid vasoconstrictive medication for wetting and expanding the tampon and a container of anti-bacterial ointment for lubricating the tampon during insertion.
Abstract: A lightweight wind tube utilized for advertising, constructed of fabric with a constant diameter having annular sleeve at each end. The forward end sleeve being held in an open circle by flexible frame members with furled ends which are positioned in lateral openings in the forward end sleeve to provide attachment points for mounting yoke strings and access for disassembly. The wind tube further includes a rear sleeve formed in the exit end of the tube including a string for adjusting the choke in the exit end of the tube.
Abstract: A sorting conveyor for hanger-supported goods with sorting stations on opposite sides of the conveyor including a track, a moving chain supported by the track with a plurality of hanger pendants extending from the chain for transporting the goods, the pendant having an inclined support bar open in a rearward direction for supporting the hangers, each support station having a pick-off rail extending laterally away from the conveyor to a collection point, the end of each pick-off rail being bent normally to form an engaging probe for passing through and engaging the hook of the moving clothes hanger and tripping the hanger from its pendant onto the pick-off rail and actuator means for moving the engaging probe of each pick-off rail into the path of the clothes hanger hook.
Abstract: A head gate mounted on a cattle squeeze chute through a series of spring-type shock absorbers allows the head gate to move a limited distance in the longitudinal direction from the squeeze chute when impacted by an animal as the pivoting doors on the head gate restrain the animal's forward movement through the chute.
Abstract: A steerable drill head which utilizes the combination of a hydraulic cutting nozzle and a rotary mechanical cutting blade wherein the drill string is intermittently rotated and lineally advanced in the bore. The drill head further includes a ramp attached to the head behind the cutting blade including a steering surface for deflecting the drill head and its string in a particular direction by linear advancement without rotation. The cutting blade is positioned at the center of the head with the plane of the blade positioned on the axis of rotation of the drill head.
Abstract: The invention is a proportional rudder boost system for manually controlled aircraft which also have a yaw dampening system. The boost system includes four sensors in the pilot's and copilot's pedals including a summation means which adds the manual inputs from both pilots to provide a combined output signal to the power boost computer. Once the combined output signal exceeds a minimum force level, the boost computer signals the yaw servo to increase its torque applied to the rudder from zero in proportion to the increase in manual force applied to the rudder pedals up to a maximum power assist force level.
