Abstract: A pressure controller device includes a housing accommodating a precision pressure regulator incorporating a first diaphragm operable upon a main valve provided between an inlet and an outlet in the housing. The regulator further includes a second diaphragm operable upon a flapper-nozzle arrangement to set the pressure of the working fluid discharged through the device. The housing further includes a resiliently loaded shuttle actuable by an operating handle connected thereto and externally protruding from the housing to operate the second diaphragm and the flapper-nozzle arrangement. Manual operation of the handle, and resulting linear movement of the shuttle, effects movement of the second diaphragm and the flapper-nozzle arrangement and thus by pressure fluid to operate the first diaphragm and thus the main valve. Consequential variation in the pressure of the fluid delivered by the device is thus achieved by the shuttle overriding the operation of the diaphragms and thus the valve.
Abstract: A mobile destruction apparatus for use with oil contaminated with a toxic organic pollutant material includes a housing, which defines a first heating combustion chamber for heating the oil to generate a toxic fluid using a first burner connected thereto. The apparatus includes a rotating transition cylinder that defines a drying chamber, which is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber to receive the toxic fluid. The cylinder includes an amount of a desiccant material to dry the toxic fluid. A second heating destruction chamber is provided downstream of the cylinder to heat the toxic fluid to substantially convert it and destroy it into an inert fluid, which exhausts from the apparatus. A method of destructing toxic contaminants from contaminated oils is also described.
Abstract: Weight lifting simulator apparatus includes a primary pneumatic cylinder providing the principal resistance for simulating weight lifting exercise with at least one secondary cylinder in free fluid interconnection with the primary cylinder whereby constant and balanced loading is achieved, with provisions for dynamic simulation of weight inertia effect, and control thereof, as in lifting a real weight. The primary and the secondary cylinders are associated with a guideway, the primary cylinder being fixed to the guideway and the secondary cylinder being slidable relative to the guideway and pivotable relative to the piston rod of the primary cylinder. Variation of the securement position of the primary cylinder on the guideway is available and valving is provided in the fluid interconnection.
Abstract: A log feed roll for displacing a log has a roll which may be rotated around a rotary axis, flutes for propelling the log, and removable flute attachments fastened to the flutes for contacting the log during engagement of the log in the feed roll. The flutes have flute apertures extending through side walls thereof. The attachments have a top attachment section from which generally opposed side braces extend. The attachments are fastened to the flutes by bolts extending through the brace apertures on one side brace, the flute apertures and the brace apertures on the opposing side brace, and nuts engaged on the bolts on the opposing side brace. The side walls are situated between the side braces, in abutment therewith when the attachment is fastened to the flute.
Abstract: A machine for generating mechanical energy and functioning on the principle of exploitation of centrifugal forces of masses being displaced along a closed mechanical circuit over at least a curved section of the circuit. Optionally, the machines also functions on the principle of energy gain caused by masses falling under the influence of gravity in the closed circuit that is permanently maintained in a state of dynamic unbalance with an input, continuous or not, of external energy.
Abstract: A mounting for a side wing plough includes a mounting having two relatively movable sectorially formed elements, one of which being fixed to the plough and the other being connected to a lifting means for the leading end of the plough. The two elements register with one another and are guided thereby, the interengagement of the elements constituting the connection enabling movement of the plough and also permitting limited compensatory shifting of the plough upon encountering an immovable obstacle. The mounting could further include a tilt mechanism of limited stroke affording the capability of the plough to tilt toward the vehicle to accommodate unpredictable movement of the plough upon impacting an immovable obstacle.
Abstract: A filing cabinet dolly provides a wheeled framework within and upon which a filing cabinet may be disposed for transport, the framework including a vertically power-assisted movable platform for accommodating the cabinet in a stable orientation.
Abstract: A storage rack column protector includes a base plate securable to the floor and with an upstanding flange at one end thereof, the base plate providing a support surface on which the column sits in use. A buffer housing incorporating a resilient block is disposed on the side of the flange remote from the column, the housing embracing the flange. In the event of impact the buffer housing and the resilient block move to absorb the shock and thus protect the column from damage.
Abstract: A parasitic element for a helical antenna having at least one helix conductor extending from a secured first longitudinal end of the antenna to an opposite free second longitudinal end thereof around an antenna major-axis. The parasitic element includes an electrically conductive ring located adjacent and spaced apart from the second end in a direction leading away from the first end with the ring axis being parallel to and substantially collinear with the antenna major-axis. The ring has an outer diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the helix conductor at the second end.

Abstract: A speed control device suitable for roller skates includes a wedge-shaped floating brake pad actuable into an operative mode in a frictional contact with a disc secured to a blade wheel by means of an actuating lever movable in a controlled manner through the agency of mating scroll formations. The brake pad being configured and sized to, once frictionally engaged with the disc, remain engaged therewith until rotation of the wheel substantially ceases.
Abstract: A staircase finishing arrangement includes a tread portion presenting a finishing surface layer, a nosing extending across substantially the whole length of the tread portion with a supporting layer affixed to the underside of the surface layer and mortised into the nosing, in the front and/or free side edges of the tread. Mechanical securement members are provided for interengagement as between the nosing and the subjacent riser, and are pivotally mounted such that upon interengagement limited adjustment may be achieved to secure the arrangement in proper transverse locational relationship with the stair.
Abstract: A traction aid for providing traction to a wheel of a vehicle relative a ground surface has two sections, composed of side members and traction members, connected by a connecting mechanism enabling pivotal unfolding and folding of sections between folded and unfolded configurations for device. In unfolded configuration, sections are longitudinally opposed end-to-end to allow wheel to pass over both sections when device is deployed on ground surface. In folded configuration, sections are folded together and extend substantially parallel one another. Each section has a plurality of gripping members attached to side members and extending therefrom.
Abstract: A dual refrigerant refrigerating system provides a refrigeration cycle in which a primary refrigerant cools a secondary refrigerant in a primary evaporator into a partially frozen state, in which a fusion portion thereof is frozen. The primary refrigerant thus absorbs a secondary latent heat from secondary refrigerant, including a latent heat of fusion required for freezing the fusion portion. Secondary refrigerant is subsequently at least partially thawed, in a secondary evaporator, by re-absorption thereby of secondary latent heat from material proximal to secondary evaporator. Evaporation in secondary evaporator requires at least partial thawing of fusion portion, and thus latent heat of fusion is at least partially re-absorbed by secondary refrigerant, thus increasing secondary heat absorbed from material and facilitating refrigeration thereof. The system also provides defrost and heat reclaim capabilities.
Abstract: A method is described for determining the return stroke polarity of distant lightning for distances beyond 600 km by detecting the electric field associated with a return stroke of distant lightning, and processing the electric field signal to determine the polarity of the slow tail of the VLF waveform signal associated with the detected electric field. The polarity of the return stroke of distant lightning is determined based upon the polarity of the slow tail portion of the waveform.
