Abstract: There is described a double stage sense amplifier (4) in bipolar technology achieving very high speed operation without saturation or connection problems. For each memory cell column of the computer member system (1), a first stage or column sense stage (4.1) amplifies the differential input signal (V) produced on the pair of bit lines (BLL, BLR) according to the information read from one CMOS memory cell of the memory cell array (3.1) to provide a first differential output signal (V1) available at output terminals (10.1, 10.2). The output terminals of all the first stage (4.1 to 4.n) are connected to a first-data out bus comprised of the data lines (DLC1, DLT1). A second stage or final stage (4') amplifies the first differential output signal developed on the data lines to provide a second differential output signal (V2) at output terminals (17.1, 17.2). The second stage of the common base amplifier type is comprised of two transistors (T9, T10).

Abstract: An optical processing system for controlling a deformable mirror employs iterative constrained deconvolution of an actuator influence function with a set of optical representations of spatial impulse functions related to the settings of the actuators. An input optical beam is first transformed to a beam having a uniform phase amplitude proportional to the phase of the incoming beam at corresponding locations.
Abstract: A memory organization having one or more groups of memory arrays is disclosed. Each array, which may be on a single chip, is provided with both a data port and a separate address port which may also serve as an alternate data port. Use of the alternate data ports permits a substantially smaller number of input/output circuits to be used than the number required if both the address and data ports are used. The standard data port is, however, available should a higher-speed application be desired using separate address and data ports. In a single-port application, an on-chip data buffer permits the data to be sent and received through the address port in timed relationship with row and column address signals and without interfering with such address signals. An optional group select signal permits a large memory organization to utilize the alternate data ports of numerous groups of array chips.

Abstract: An SOI circuit includes a set of buried body ties that provide ohmic contact to the otherwise floating transistor bodies disposed on an insulating layer and both provide a path for holes generated by impact ionization and also act as a potential shield between the substrate potential and the transistor sources. The same fabrication technique provides a buried interconnect layer between transistors that can be employed as a mask programmable local interconnect in an ASIC such as a gate array. The process provides for independent control of differential mesa thickness and buried body tie thickness, so that fully and partially depleted transistors can be fabricated simultaneously and placed on appropriate mesas without affecting the body ties.

Abstract: A method of forming silicon integrated circuits offers radiation resistance together with a high degree of planarity, including a thin field oxide together with a set of conductive plates over the field region combine to suppress the formation of parasitic transistors. In one embodiment, a silicon substrate is etched to form trenches and is then covered with a thin barrier layer, (410) of high quality thermal oxide. A polysilicon layer (423) is next conformally deposited and planarized until the barrier layer (410) is exposed, followed by an oxidation step for isolation or gate oxide formation.

Abstract: A system for the transmission of signals along an optical carrier employs a technique to extend the effective frequency range of modulation beyond that of which a semiconductor laser is capable by combination of signals at the source to form a composite difference signal and recombination at the receiver to restore the original signal.
Abstract: An integrated circuit chip for performing arithmetic calculations on complex numbers including a bidirectional input/output section for switching the direction of data flow on external buses, a multiplier and two adders located on two intersecting data paths, on which a mix of simultaneous and serial operations are performed.
Abstract: An improved ring laser system having mutual coupling between two or more ring laser resonators employs a two-step coupling process, in which coupling power is coupled into the adjoint forward mode of an adjacent resonator, from which it diffractively couples to the forward mode. A portion of forward-mode power is coupled into the adjoint reverse mode from which it diffractively couples to the reverse mode within each resonator. A portion of this reverse mode power is used to coupled into other resonators. A complementary configuration employs forward-mode radiation as the coupling radiation.

Abstract: An optical pyrometer makes a temperature measurement of a remote body that is insensitive to spurious radiation by modulating the temperature of the body of optical irradiation in a first optical wavelength range at a low modulation frequency and synchronous detection of emitted optical radiation in a second optical wavelength range, together with modulation in the second optical wavelength range and detection in the first wavelength range. The measurement so made are combined to form a parameter representative of the body temperature that is insensitive to the environment of the body.

Abstract: A circuit accepts as input a multi-frequency composite signal, such as that produced by a comb generator and passes on as an output signal switchably selected set of components of the input, so that the output signal may be varied by the selections of the components to be passed through. The circuit contains multiple filters in parallel with switches at the input and output of each.
