  • Patent number: 4039373
Abstract: A static discharger includes a vertical casing connected to a pressurized pulping digester for receiving a stream of fibrous material and having a valve isolated scrap collector positioned on its lower end. A discharge neck on which a blow valve is mounted extends from the casing above the scrap collector and is covered with a grid plate having self-cleaning openings. A pipe mounted tangentially on the casing introduces flooding liquid thereto while a similar pipe may be located on the scrap collector. A sealed casing cleanout opening may be provided. No moving parts are involved since discharger agitations result from the flooding media. Heavy foreign body impurities in the stream sink to the scrap collector where they are removed without process interruption. Buoyant objects remain suspended in the liquid. Blow valve plugging is eliminated. For higher fiber consistency, a grid plate wiping agitator may be advantageously installed in the casing.

  • Patent number: 4036254
Abstract: The present invention relates to a new container that can be displaced by rotary force, consisting of a continuous sheet that assumes a form similar to a cylindrical surface, generated by a rectangle whose shorter sides have been substituted by convex semicircumferences, when it rotates around an axis that is very close and parallel to one of the long sides. An element is then placed in the direction of the axis and forms the axis of rotation. This element is held fast by the container when the latter is filled with fluid or other matter that induces multidirectional pressures of sufficient magnitude to cause the element installed, when impelled by a force, preferably along the axis but from either direction, to pull with it the enclosed sheet, thus displacing the container by rotary force over the supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 4008864
Abstract: An improved locking mechanism for a safety belt of the type having a rotatable storage reel from which the belt may be automatically wound and a pivoting pawl for engaging the teeth of a ratchet wheel connected to the reel for locking it in position to prevent rotation includes the provision of an oval shaped bearing hole means located within the pawl for permitting sliding movement of the pawl on a pivot in addition to pivoting movement. A recess means formed on the pawl receives the arm of a lever for actuating the pawl and defines a cam-like surface on which the lever arm slides so that the lever returns to its position prior to actuation when the pawl slides on the pivot after locking engagement with the ratchet wheel. The oval shaped bearing hole may have a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to a plane tangent to the circumference of the ratchet wheel thus providing a high moment of force on the ratchet wheel along with a small bearing load on the wheel and pawl.

  • Patent number: 4003304
Abstract: The invention relates to a screw press for dewatering suspended fibrous pulp. The press comprises a tubular casing with perforated wall and a screw member rotatable within the casing. The desired degree of dewatering is controlled by a throttling member adjustable so as to generate a predetermined counter-pressure against the pulp advanced by the screw member. It rather often occurs that the pressure produced in the press becomes so high that the rotation of the screw member is stopped which means total stop of the operation of the press. The invention provides means adapted automatically to avoid such undesired stop in operation by relieving the press from internal pressure exceeding a predetermined, adjustable value.

  • Patent number: 4002040
Abstract: A method and apparatus provides conditioning of an air stream by cooling in a regenerative heat exchanger having two groups of channels separated from one another by walls through which heat exchange occurs. The air stream to be conditioned flows through one group of channels while an auxiliary air stream flows through a second group of channels the walls of which comprise wettable material maintained wet by means of water which is caused to evaporate by the auxiliary air stream to result in cooling. The wettable material provides a substantially stationary liquid layer maintained in the channels of auxiliary air flow so that evaporation takes place directly from the walls separating the two groups of channels to obtain high heat exchange efficiency.
