  • Patent number: 4438585
Abstract: An insect exterminating device comprising a bowl shaped container having a shaft centrally disposed extending upwardly, the shaft being rapidly rotated by an electric motor at a representative speed range of between 1,200 and 3,000 rpm, the shaft having a disc secured to its upper end region but positioned below the plane of the rim of the container, and a flexible nylon cord extending radially outwardly from opposite sides of the disc. As the shaft rotates, the nylon cord is extended reaching from the center of the container to approximately the peripheral wall, the rotation being rapid enough to strike and kill insects such as flies which enter the container, attracted therein by bait placed on the bottom. When the shaft is not rotating, the flexible cord lies limp. The bait may consist of molasses mixed with various types of feed, or any edible material which attracts insects preferably containing sugar, honey or other sweet ingredient.

  • Patent number: 4221206
Abstract: A carbon monoxide detector and deactivating mechanism to monitor the level of carbon monoxide concentration within the passenger compartment of a vehicle having an internal combustion engine, and to stop the operation of such internal combustion engine when the level of carbon monoxide concentration reaches a danger point for occupants of the passenger compartment. The detector includes plural detecting means to determine such dangerous concentration level, at least two of which detect carbon monoxide in the atmosphere by different methods and principles of operation. The detector is electrically connected to the vehicle's electrical system and when the critical pre-determined level of carbon monoxide is reached, it triggers a vacuum switch to interrupt the ignition circuit of the vehicle for a long enough time to insure that the internal combustion engine has been stopped.

  • Patent number: 4201182
Abstract: A bow of the compound type for use in archery, having an upper and lower limb pivotally mounted at opposite ends of an elongated central frame member having a hand grasp portion formed thereon. First and second pivot members having continuously variable leverage characteristics are each connected to both the upper and lower limbs. When the drawstring is pulled back toward the cocked position, the limbs pivot and the variable leverage pivot members rotate from the position of least leverage to positions of progressively greater leverage. Thus, less force is required as the drawstring approaches the fully cocked position. When the drawstring is released, the variable leverage pivot members operate in reverse to progressively increase the velocity of the drawstring as it snaps from the cocked to the fully released position.

  • Patent number: 4164970
Abstract: An inflatable bag comprising a peripheral side wall having a pluraity of inflatable cells of flexible sheet material surrounding a storage cavity, and end walls to enclose each opposite end of the cavity, which end walls similarly include an inflatable cell of flexible sheet material. An opening is provided for entrance into the storage cavity, which opening includes means to open and close such as by means of a zipper. Air valves are provided for inflating and deflating the inflatable cells of the peripheral side wall and the inflatable cells of each end wall. When the inflatable cells of the peripheral side wall are inflated with air, the rigidity of the peripheral side wall increases to support the peripheral wall at points around the periphery which are spaced apart from the longitudinal axis of the storage cavity. The cells of the end wall are similarly inflated to provide rigidity and support for each end wall.

  • Patent number: 4148279
Abstract: An ear brace for dogs, such as Doberman-Pinschers, whose ears require support during their early weeks and months to train the dog to hold its ears erect. The ear brace comprises a light wire frame having a crossarm slightly larger than the width of the dog's head, and two toed-in side arm members which converge inwardly as they extend downwardly from opposite sides of the crossarm. At the end of each side-arm member remote from the crossarm a substantially 90 degree bend is formed, toed inwardly and extending for about one-half inch and a reversely directed bend is then formed to provide a return portion in each side-arm member. The return portion of each side-arm member extends upwardly angled toward the respective ends of the crossarm from which the side-arm members depend, on a line which if extended would progressively approach the junction of each respective side-arm member and the respective ends of the crossarm from which they depend.

  • Patent number: 4056427
Abstract: A focus collimator press for collimators for gamma ray cameras, comprising a pivot arm of fixed length mounted on a travelling pivot which is movable in the plane of a spaced apart work table surface in a direction toward and away from the work table. A press plate is carried at the opposite end of the fixed length pivot arm, and is maintained in registration with the same portion of the work table for pressing engagement with each undulating radiation opaque strip as it is added to the top of a collimator stack in process by movement of the travelling pivot inward toward the work table. This enables the press plate to maintain its relative position above the collimator stack and at the same time the angle of the press plate changes, becoming less acute in relation to the work table as the travelling pivot moves inwardly toward the work table. The fixed length of the pivot arm is substantially equal to the focal point of the converging apertures formed by each pair of undulating strips stacked together.
