Abstract: A method of and a device for operating a gas discharge lamp which is fed with an alternating voltage or an alternating current and wherein the instantaneous power of the lamp is increased at given time intervals are used to form the electrodes. The value of an operational datum of the lamp which varies in time is continuously or discontinuously measured and the frequency of the alternating voltage or the alternating current (operating frequency) is selected in dependence on the measured values.

Abstract: A hand-held mixer (1) includes a drive mechanism (36) for driving mixing tools (28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35), which mixing tools are detachably coupled to the drive mechanism (36) and are disengageable from the drive mechanism (36) with the aid of a movable disengaging device (42), and further includes speed switching circuits within a first module (9), with the aid of which speed switching circuits the speed of the mixing tools can be switched to different speed values. A movable actuating element (19) actuates the speed switching circuits and includes a switching handle (20). The disengaging device (42) and the actuating element (19) including the switching handle (20) are formed as a one-piece second module (44) which is arranged so as to be movable parallel to only one path of movement (43) both for actuation of the speed switching circuits and for disengagement of the mixing tools from the drive mechanism (36).
Abstract: A device (1) for the treatment of a region of a body comprises the following components, i.e.: a housing (2) which can be held in one hand, a tool (10) provided for treating the region of the body, drive means (14) for driving the tool (10), and compression force definition means (65) for defining a desired compression force obtaining between the tool (10) and the region of a body under treatment, as well as adjustment means (66) accommodated in the housing (2) for adjusting the range for a desired compression force.

Abstract: The electric high-pressure discharge lamp has tungsten electrodes (2) in a light-transmitting lamp vessel (1) which is closed in a gastight manner. The electrodes (2) comprise an emitter, preferably in the form of an inner coiled-coil (14), which is loosely retained in a cavity (12) of a basket (6) of the electrode (2). The inner coil (14) acts as a non-oxidic emitter. The lamp retains its initial light output to a high degree throughout its life.

Abstract: The luminaire has a molded reflector body (1) comprising a reflective coating (3) with light reflective particles (10) and a binder (11) and having a substrate side (12) and an outer surface (13). The coating (3) has a smooth optical waveguiding surface due to the absence of particles (10) at its outer surface (13) and to the light-transmission properties of the binder (11). Owing to these properties, the coating (3) has a high degree of specular reflection, thereby both increasing the lumen output ratio and improving the light directional properties of the luminaire.

Abstract: A hair removing apparatus (1) comprising two co-operating hair processing members (17, 19), formed by plate-shaped carriers and movable relatively to each other in a direction of movement (X). The two carriers are positioned with respect to each other, viewed in a Z direction substantially perpendicular to the carriers, by a plurality of positioning members (29), which are spaced apart in the direction of movement. At least one of the two carriers has a comparatively low bending stiffness. As a result, a comparatively small and uniform gap is present between the two carriers, and the friction force acting on the carriers in a direction parallel to the direction of movement is also comparatively small. In one embodiment the positioning members (29) each have an S-shaped or C-shaped tongue (31), which is provided on a third carrier (35), the first and second carriers (21, 27) being enclosed between the third carrier and contact elements (41) of the tongues.

Abstract: The invention relates to a surface-cleaning device (61, 63) which has a base part (69) and a cleaning part (67) having a substantially flat contact surface (71) for contact with a surface (41) to be cleaned and which is rotatable relative to the base part about an axis of rotation (77) extending substantially perpendicularly to the contact surface. According to the invention, the cleaning part is pivotable relative to the base part about a pivot axis (105) which extends transversely to the axis of rotation, and the base part is so constructed that a component (93) is present and exerts a pre-tension force, preferably a pre-tension torque (Mp) on the cleaning part about said pivot axis.
Abstract: A display device comprises a color filter pattern between a phosphor pattern and a display window. For blue, the thickness (t2) of this color filter pattern is more than 2.5 micrometer, preferably 5-7 micrometer, and/or for red said thickness is 0.25-1.5 micrometer. The red and/or blue color filter patterns are provided by means of a non-linear photoresist. This enables an improved contrast (LCP) to be achieved.

Abstract: A metal halide lamp has a ceramic discharge vessel with an inside length L, an inside diameter D, and an aspect ratio L/D of between 3 and 5. The fill gas includes xenon, mercury, sodium halide, and halides of rare earth metals. Hydrogen iodide voltage spikes during start-up are related to product of volume and the cold xenon pressure, which are adjusted to limit the spikes. Voltage crest factor is related to the product of total operating pressure and the square of the inside diameter, which are adjusted to limit the crest factor. The ceramic discharge metal halide (CDM)lamp may have a power rating of 200 W or more and can be used with an existing ballast for a high pressure sodium (HPS) lamp of like power rating.
