  • Patent number: 5754937
Abstract: A method for making a high density powdered metal article is provided. The composition consists of iron based powder, lubricant, graphite and ferro alloy additions. The composition is compacted in rigid tools at ambient temperature, sintered at high temperature and then formed in rigid tools at 40 to 90 tons per square inch to a density greater than 94% of theoretical. The high density article is then annealed. The final article demonstrates remarkable mechanical properties which are atypical of powdered metal components and approach those of wrought steel.

  • Patent number: 5722815
Abstract: A gerotor pump is described for use with non-compressible fluids such as automotive coolant or hydraulic oil. The pump includes three separate pump outlet ports, a bypass return passage, find an integral four position spool valve. Increasing back pressure from a downstream load is sensed be the spool valve which moves accordingly to restrict the fluid supplied. In the first position a full flow fluid is supplied to the load from all three ports. In the second position one port is vented to the bypass and the flow from the other two ports is directed to the load. In the third position two ports vent to bypass, and one ports drives the load. In the fourth position all ports vent to bypass. In each case flow vented to bypass is not first compressed, permitting a smaller motor to be used.

  • Patent number: 5711478
Abstract: A reusable container closure which telescopes over the open top or bottom of the container is formed by utilizing a one-piece paperboard blank which is cut, scored, and folded to present a central panel, and at least three side panels depending from the central panel. A first side panel has a corner flap. A second side panel has a notch. The first side panel and the second side panel meet to form a corner. The corner flap is folded about the corner to lie against the second side panel. The corner flap also has a friction stop folded to engage the notch, which extends through the notch. When the container closure is telescoped over the container, the container urges the friction stops towards the second side panel so that the container closure embraces the top of the container. When the container closure is later removed from the container, the friction stop is simply disengaged from the notch and the container closure may be flattened and returned for re-use.

  • Patent number: 5628133
Abstract: A removable car sign is provided for temporary installation on the inside face of the window of a car. A pneumatic bulb is placed conveniently near the driver's console. When the bulb is squeezed by the car driver it causes the sign to extend to an open position in which a message is visible from the outside of the car. When the bulb is released the sign returns to its closed position in which the message is not viewable. The message surfaces may be easily removed and replaced as one may desire.

  • Patent number: 5626032
Abstract: A system having a matched vane compressor and impeller is described for use in either a hydraulic system or in a two phase air conditioning system. The impeller is matched to the compressor to return work to the compressor through a shaft or gearbox. The compressor is a vane compressor having longitudinally reciprocating vanes carried in a slotted disc between matched, opposed cam faces forming a series of variable geometry chambers which draw in and expel working fluid during rotation of the shaft. Compression is achieved by exposing the fluid in the chambers to high pressure fluid while the volume of the chamber is not changing. A pressurizing port is placed tangentially to the chambers for this purpose. The impeller also makes use of tangentially disposed pressure ports to expose the turning pockets of a drum to higher pressure.

  • Patent number: 5615520
Abstract: A one-way self closing gate such as may be used in retail stores, airports or libraries is provided with an inclined helical ramp mechanism by which opening of the gate also causes lifting of the gate arm relative to the gate base. When released the gate will tend to close itself under the force of gravity. To augment this gravity force a spring is provided which is compressed as the arm rises relative to the base. So that the gate does not close too quickly a screw presses a nylon slug against the turning shaft of the gate. When the gate is closed a force applied to open the gate in the contrary direction to that intended is resisted by abutment of a generously welded internal stop against a generously welded internal upright. In an alternate form this resistance function in the closed position is performed by an adjacent post positioned to intercept the motion of the moving barrier. In all cases the internal mechanism of the gate is enclosed in a housing to prevent injury to children's fingers.
