  • Patent number: 5611414
Abstract: The invention describes a bed in a suitcase requiring minimal preparation for use. It is intended for storage in, for example, a car or truck, and for use when the driver may not be in a condition to drive home. The bed is formed by mating a foldable mattress or pallet with bed clothing, such as an undersheet with a half-width sleeping bag cover. The foldable mattress has a number of cushioning elements which can be folded, especially when used in conjunction with material hinges, to fit within the suitcase. The cushions may also be extended to lie side by side in an extended position for sleeping. Some or all of those elements may have a hard shell mounted to their undersides to protect the mattress from broken glass or sharp objects. The suitcase and hard shell materials are resistant to water absorption and the bed clothing is removable and washable.

  • Patent number: 5603584
Abstract: A threaded connector is disclosed for attaching a handle to a tool head, such as a rake or a broom. The threaded connector may include a central cap or plug and a plurality of opposed wings extending radially outwardly therefrom. The wings are in the form of hollow partial cylinders and are hingeably attached to the cap. The cap is positioned on the end of the handle and the wings are folded downwardly and inwardly to engage the handle. Each wing includes partial thread segments that register to form a full thread when the wings are folded together. The full thread has a shallow taper such that tightening of the connector within a mating socket in a tool head causes the connector to bind or wedge itself into the socket. To provide additional resistance to loosening a locking ring has longitudinal mortices which key into aligned rabbets in the connector and in the socket.

  • Patent number: 5592778
Abstract: A turnstile is disclosed which is easily adapted to operate in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction of rotation and which does not permit reverse rotation during operation. Resistance to rotation in the reverse direction is achieved by means of a drag shoe mechanism. As a rotor mechanism rotates about a corresponding stator mechanism it trails a drag shoe by a rigid connecting rod, or drag arm, across a bearing surface. The drag arm is disposed at a non-perpendicular angle. In reverse motion the angularly inclined drag arm forces the drag shoe to jam into the bearing surface and thereby act as a brake. The turnstile is provided with a quick release wrench, an safety release bolt which protrudes beyond the housing of the turnstile mechanism, and emergency release instructions labels clearly visible on the top and pillar of the turnstile.

  • Patent number: 5584096
Abstract: This patent invention relates to Multiple Hand Grip System. This system may be used to cover the hand support pipes which are located in transit buses, subway train cars, light rail transit cars, street cars, trams, trolley buses etc. The system includes generally a cylindrical body, having an inner and outer wall and opposite open ends and exterior gripping means. The system is molded from plastic material high coefficient of friction and moldability of the material result in non-slippery, convenient, comfortable friction, and safe, hand grips for both left and right hands of the users. The plastic material used to mold the system provides a good feel to touch and good friction with hand skin. The exterior gripping means of the system, conforms to the shape of users' left and right hands. It provides adequate support and retention of the users' hands even though the users relax their grips.

  • Patent number: 5551604
Abstract: A relatively hygienic dispenser is provided for dispensing particulate matter such as bulk foods, gum drops or even hardware such as nuts and bolts. A dispenser mechanism is attached to a storage bin or receptacle. The material, typically food or sticky candy, falls toward dispenser module due to gravity. The dispenser has a four sided roughly rectangular, variable geometry passageway. Two opposed sides of the passageway are rigid, and the other two opposed sides are flexible. A scoop is pivotally mounted to the two rigid walls and extends across the passageway between them. The two lobed scoop accepts material from the receptacle, is turned either clockwise or counter-clockwise, and discharges material, presumably to a waiting container. The scoop turns between, and in contact with, the two spring-loaded sides, or skirts, and two flexible scraper walls.

  • Patent number: 5522213
Abstract: A speed control shifter is provided for use with an hydraulic automotive drive train. The shifter is intended for co-axial mounting on an existing variable speed reciprocating hydraulic pump swash plate angle control shaft. It employs a pair of input plates each intermittently connected to an output plate rigidly connected to the shaft. One input plate is connected to a speed selector handle, the other input plate is linked to an accelerator cable. When starting from neutral activation of one solenoid causes the position of the output plate, and hence the swash plate, to be controlled by motion of the accelerator cable. This allows the automobile to move away from a stopped position as the engine accelerates from idle. Once a first chosen speed range is reached a second solenoid is activated to link the motion of the output plate to the position of the speed selector, and the first solenoid is de-activated to permit normal increases and decreases in speed within the chosen speed range.
