Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording medium having an excellent thermal stability of the recorded signal and S/N and a low medium noise, and capable of easily forming a perpendicular magnetic recording layer is provided. The perpendicular magnetic recording medium has, at least, a perpendicular magnetic recording layer having a hexagonal closest packing (hcp) structure of which c-axis is perpendicular to a surface of the perpendicular magnetic recording layer, on a non-magnetic base, wherein the perpendicular magnetic recording layer has a saturation magnetization Ms of not more than 400 emu/cc, and a lattice constant c of the hexagonal closest packing structure is not more than 4.07 Å.
Abstract: The present invention provides an information storage apparatus generating a tracking error signal in which apparatus and method the differential push-pull method is applied to a three spot method using a main beam and two sub-beams, the main beam for writing data on a recording medium and reading data from the recording medium, the information storage apparatus including the following parts. A beam moving part moves the main beam from a blank track to a recorded track. A center value calculating part calculates a center value of the tracking error signal when said main beam is moved from the blank track to the recorded track so that a reference value of the tracking error signal is corrected in accordance with the center value when said main beam writes data on the recording medium.
Abstract: According to the invention, compositions are made available which have a strong cytotoxic effect which is largely selective on tumor tissue. The invention is based on the fact that certain benzoic acid derivatives have a strong synergistic effect as a mixture and destroy cancer cells selectively in a pH range of 7 or below, such as from 6.5 to 7.
Abstract: A disk apparatus has a head carriage and a head carriage drive mechanism. The head carriage drive mechanism has voice coil motors located on each side of the head carriage. The voice coil motors each have a drive coil, the two drive coils having different numbers of turns and being connected in parallel to a power source. The two voice coil motors generate identical propulsive forces despite having a different number of turns in the respective drive coils, making it possible to move the head carriage with precision. A head carriage position detecting mechanism is included in a space formed beneath the drive coil having the smaller number of turns, for added precision in positioning the head carriage.
Abstract: A stable high-speed integrated circuit driven by a wide range of low voltages and consuming low power. A MOSFET is used wherein signals are applied to its gate and body for forming a circuit block which comprises a transistor network and at least one buffer circuit. Each buffer circuit has at least two configurations. A plurality of circuit blocks are formed on the same IC chip. Any of the configurations of the buffer circuit may be selected according to the magnitude of the capacitance of the load driven by the circuit block.
Abstract: A valve combination for vibration pumps performs multiple functions of self-priming, compensation of negative pressure and protection against over pressure. A body (12) contains a non-return valve (18). A valve (26) releases air and compensates for negative pressure. A safety valve (48) vents accidental over pressure originating, for example, from a boiler source. The valve (26) in order to achieve negative pressure compensation, comprises a plug provided with grooves or incisions (40a-c) for favoring the external flow of air subject to negative pressure.
Abstract: This invention intends to provide a molten metal pouring amount control apparatus in which a sliding resistance of a slide frame is small and a pressing force around a nozzle hole is stabilized so that there is no fear that any trouble such as a molten metal leakage occurs and further, a structure thereof is simple and maintenance cost is low. More specifically, this invention provides a molten metal pouring amount control apparatus for adjusting an opening of a nozzle hole in a fixed plate and an opening of a nozzle hole in a sliding plate by sliding a slide frame by means of a driving means, the control apparatus further comprising guide units each including a plurality of steel balls arranged in line between the slide frame and springs, the guide units being provided on both sides of the sliding plate.
Abstract: An optical audio disc comprises the first pack (A Pack), the second pack (A-CONT Pack), the third pack (V Pack), and the fourth pack (CONT Pack) in which the A-CONT Pack is placed at the head of a data array and a plurality of the A and V Packs follow the A-CONT Pack in each audio contents block unit (ACBU). Information contained in an A-CONT Pack manages audio data contained in the A Pack. The A Pack contains audio data and the V Pack contains other data than the audio data such as closed caption (CC) data as well as video data. A reproduction apparatus for an optical audio disc (DVD-Audio disc) comprises the CONT Pack detector section 1103, the A-CONT Pack detector section 1109, the parameter sections 1108 and 1114, the V Pack buffer section 1104, and the A Pack buffer section 1110. The CONT Pack detector section 1103 and the A-CONT Pack detector section 1109 detect reproduced CONT and A-CONT Packs contained in the DVD-Audio disc 1101 respectively.
Abstract: This device comprises a chamber (4) with a pinhole, the walls of the chamber acting as shielding (6) that absorbs radiation. The chamber contains means of forming images of the sources, due to radiation, and the area in which the sources are located, due to visible light from this area. A part (36) of the shielding in which the pinhole (32) is located, is free to move and is fixed to an optical system (34) capable of providing sharp images in visible light over the required field depth by replacing the pinhole for the formation of the image of the area, and vice versa for formation of the image of the sources. Application to localizing gamma radiation sources.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a base tube for a fuel cell produced by forming a film of a fuel electrode and a film of an air electrode on a surface of the base tube, the base tube comprising a mixture of a raw material for the base tube, and coarse particles, whereby the mixture shrinks nonuniformly when sintered to increase the porosity of the base tube. Thus, the gas permeability and the cell electrical efficiency can be increased.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a bag with a shock absorbing unit for protecting the bag's contents from external impacts. In the shock absorbing unit 1, upper and lower panels 2, 3 and the side shock absorbing member 4 include a plurality of air cells 5, 6, each of which is inflated with air and sealed. The shock absorbing unit 1 is either sewed or attached to a bag 10 having a soft or hard side surface in a detachable manner so as to absorb various external impacts from all directions when carrying the bag 10 and to receive the contents safely and conveniently. In addition, it also allows the contents to be easily taken out.
Abstract: A digital audio signal obtained from an analog audio signal indicating a music, pieces of audio reproduction control information respectively indicating the adjustment of a sound quality of the music are added to the digital audio signal, and the digital audio signal is recorded with the pieces of audio reproduction control information as packed data. When a user selects a piece of particular audio reproduction control information from the pieces of audio reproduction control information after the packed data is read out, levels of pieces of audio data of the digital audio signal are adjusted according to the particular audio reproduction control information, so that the user can entertain the music at a desired sound quality.
Abstract: A multi-layer solid structure and method for forming a thermal interface between a microelectronic component package and a heat sink so that the structure has a total thermal resistance of no greater than about 0.03° C.-in2/W at a pressure of less than 100 psi. The structure comprises at least two metallic layers each of high thermal conductivity with one of the two layers having phase change properties for establishing low thermal resistance at the interface junction between the microelectronic component package and the heat sink.
Abstract: The container section 18 comprises the contacting section (first contacting section) 18e1 of contacting with the top surface of the magnet 19, the stopper section (second contacting section) 18d1 of contacting with the tip of the top end of the magnet 19 and the first tongue 18c having flexibility, which contacts with the edge composed of the top end and the bottom surface of the magnet 19 and presses the magnet 19 to both the stopper section 18d1 and the contacting section 18e1. The projection 18f provided on the tip of the tongue 18c engages with the notch 19a provided on the magnet 19, so that the magnet 19 is allocated in the lateral direction.
Abstract: A recording medium includes first information selected from a plurality of information patterns and second information selected from another plurality of information patterns for the true-false judgement. A true-false judging device performs a statistic analysis when any coincidence is found between the readout combination of the first and second information and registered combination patterns, to identify an inspected recording medium as a forged product based on the result of the statistic analysis.
Abstract: A work vehicle is provided that permits easy routine daily inspection services of a rear mounted engine in the vehicle. The vehicle has a cab covering a rear engine compartment. The cab is pivotally mounted on the frame of the vehicle. An engine hood is in turn pivotally mounted on the cab and covers the engine in the engine compartment. Accordingly, the hood can be pivoted or rotated to expose the engine for routine daily maintenance while the cab and the engine hood can be pivoted or rotated to expose the entire engine compartment for periodic heavy duty maintenance.
Abstract: An improved control system for die casting or similar machines wherein a closed loop velocity feedback circuit is supplemented with an integration circuit and two filtering circuits to compensate for the frequency response of the pilot valve in the die casting machine. The integration circuit serves to more accurately cause the velocity of an element being controlled to match the desired/commanded velocity, and also caused the velocity to more rapidly match the desired/commanded velocity.
Abstract: A head carriage lock mechanism for a magnetic disk drive has a lock member, a lifter, a link member and a solenoid. The lock member is shaped in the form of a quadrilateral frame, with arms extending perpendicularly from a front panel and a rear panel so as to connect the two panels. The right arm of the lock member, which approaches the head carriage, has a rack that engages an engaging portion of the head carriage so as to lock the head carriage in place so as to prevent damage to the head carriage during transport. The solenoid that drives the lock mechanism is positioned inside the space enclosed by the frame of the lock member, making more efficient use of the space inside the disk drive and making it possible to make the disk drive more compact.
Abstract: A method of producing a polyester from high-purity bis-&bgr;-hydroxyethyl terephthalate as a raw material containing cations and anions in trace amounts. Polyester production raw materials including bis-&bgr;-hydroxyethyl terephthalate containing cations and anions in a total weight of not more than 50 ppm, ethylene glycol and antimony trioxide and/or germanium dioxide as a polymerization catalyst are heated without substantially distilling off ethylene glycol and then heated under reduced pressure to be polycondensed while ethylene glycol is distilled off.
Abstract: The present invention involves a process and system for producing spherical BNxOy particles that are converted to crystalline BN. The process involves adding a boron compound to an aqueous solution, creating an aerosol spray from the solution in the form of aerosol droplets using an aerosol generator. The aerosol droplets are fed with an inert carrier gas into a heated furnace at a preset flow rate while simultaneously injecting a gaseous nitriding agent into the heated furnace in a direct proportion to the flow rate of the carrier gas containing the aerosol droplets whereby a precursor of spherically shaped BNxOy particles are formed which are further heat treated into particles of spherically shaped BN having a turbostratic or hexagonal structure.
