  • Patent number: 4410587
Abstract: An improved method of manufacturing fusible net products and the products resulting therefrom are disclosed. Low-melt-strength polymers are extruded with a stable high-melt-strength polymer to form a composite net structure having a carrier net layer of the stable high-melt-strength polymer carrying a net layer of similar structure and of the low-melt-strength polymer. After the molten layers are quenched and solidified the net layer on the carrier is easily delaminated. The net layer can be removed anytime after the material ceases to be tacky and may be conveniently stored as a composite if desired. The carrier polymer net is available for sale directly as is or it may be oriented or ground and recycled to again form the carrier. The low-melt-strength polymer may be sandwiched between outer layers of high-melt-strength polymer or the low-melt-strength polymer may be carried on both sides of the high-melt-strength polymer.

  • Patent number: 4405150
Abstract: For taking up less space when not in use, a ski is designed with a folded joint between its ends. For locking the front and back parts of the ski in the in-line condition ready for use, it is possible to have a top part acting as a splint which is bolted, for example, to the inner ends of the two ski parts, possibly between two heel-pieces on top of the ski parts. As a further possible design, the system for locking the ski parts in the in-line position, two links with a toggle function may be used or the top face of the two ski parts may have a female guide into which the top part is slipped. As a further possible locking system, the two ends of the ski parts nearest each other are designed with a hollow into which a locking core-piece with side headers acting as teeth is placed and which is kept in position by a metal cover plate on top of it.

  • Patent number: 4402409
Abstract: A remarkably superior plastic netting for use in palletized loads is disclosed. The plastic netting is composed of linear low density polyethylene. The netting is molecularly oriented by a minimum factor of 4 in the longitudinal direction. The resulting netting is highly desirable for use in the wrapping of palletized loads since it is relatively inexpensive, lightweight, strong, and has a low degree of permanent stretch coupled with a relatively high degree of elastic stretch.

  • Patent number: 4396428
Abstract: The present invention is directed to processes and apparatus for carrying out said processes wherein molten cast iron is treated with a predominantly iron alloy having the essential elements by weight of from about 0.1 to about 10.0% silicon and about 0.5 to about 4.0% magnesium. The alloy may comprise from about 0.1 to about 10.0% silicon, about 0.5 to about 4.0% magnesium, up to about 2.0% of one or more rare earth elements such as cerium about 0.5 to about 6.5% carbon, the balance being iron. Small amounts of calcium, barium or strontium and trace elements customarily found in conventional raw material may be present in the alloy. The characteristics of the alloy make it possible to establish a ready supply of treated molten iron in the foundry in holding vessels with a selected chemical composition at a given temperature. It also makes possible semi-continuous and continuous casting of ductile and compacted graphite cast irons.

  • Patent number: 4392777
Abstract: A pump or blower device particularly for heating and air conditioning systems is provided with a plurality of inlet ports and a plurality of outlet ports. Axially displaceable impeller means are moved to connect any one inlet port selectively with a first outlet port or with a second different outlet port or with a plurality of outlet ports simultaneously. The device is of great advantage in controlling the circulation of heating or cooling fluids between a primary circuit and secondary circuits that branch out to provided heating or cooling in selected separate areas of a building or to a plurality of buildings serviced by the primary circuit. The present device decreases the number of pumps and mixing valves in the systems and results in decreasing installation and operating costs.

  • Patent number: 4386514
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for drawing a wrinkle-free thin-walled cup from a sheet blank, using a die formed as a draw ring, a holddown that holds the blank material against the draw ring, and a drawing punch, which pushes the blank into the opening of the draw ring, wherein the blank material that flows from the slot between the draw ring and the holddown is formed by drawing in an initial zone of deformation which surrounds the punch, and flows into the opening of the draw ring over the latter's inner edge which is adjacent to the area of the holddown.According to the invention, in order to draw a conical cup of sheet metal, preferably of sheet steel, having a peripheral wall which forms with respect to the center axis of the cup an angle sheet is smaller than 60.degree. and preferably an angle of 3.degree.

  • Patent number: 4385935
Abstract: A cement slurry of low specific density for cementation of oil-and gas wells is produced by mixing oil-well cement with finely divided emission products comprising amorphous silica dust which has been obtained during the electrothermal preparation of ferrosilicon and/or silicon metal, water, and any desirable dispersion components, the emission products being added in an amount in the range of 1-50% of the total weight of dry material. The emission products can either be mixed with the cement while both components are in the dry state whereupon there is added a sufficient quantity of water in order to obtain a desired specific weight of the slurry or first mixed with water and any other desired dispersion components and this slurry is mixed with the oil-well cement.

  • Patent number: 4384465
Abstract: The invention relates to a lock mechanism for doors, preferably for use with dwellings, apartments or offices, the locking mechanism providing in particular a measure of safety against unauthorized opening of the lock. The lock mechanism is of a type which at will may be alternatively actuated from the inside either by a key or a thumb turn. When the resident of the house leaves he may in a simple manner suspend the function of the thumb turn. The lock is on its inside equipped both with a key hole hand and a thumb turn. The thumb turn may be engaged or disengaged with a dead bolt by means of a screw means. The screw means is actuated from the front of the lock, actuating an arm which actuates a transmission element bringing the transmission means of the thumb turn into, respectively out of engagement with the transmission means on the follower so that the lock at the operators will either will be actuated by a key or a thumb turn.
