  • Patent number: 7775082
Abstract: A test fixture for rollover crash testing of a test vehicle onto a moving surface employs a cradle to support and rotate the test vehicle. A vertical support structure to position and releasably holds the cradle. A moving sled having a contact surface and is carried by a guide extending beneath the structure and the cradle fixture. The cradle is rotated and released from the structure responsive to a sensor for contact within a drop impact zone on the contact surface of the moving sled. Vertical motion of the cradle is then arrested to prevent further damage to the test vehicle or the test structure.

  • Patent number: 7717492
Abstract: A vehicle geometry for rollover crush resistance is created by determining a center of mass providing a roll axis and establishing a roof line contact surface spaced from the center of mass by a hoop radius substantially equal to a major radius of roll contact from the roll axis. As a first embodiment, the roof line contact surface is established in original designs for vehicles as a monocoque structure. As a second embodiment, provided as an original equipment manufacture (OEM) item or retrofit structural assembly, an arcuate member shaped as a byte of the hoop radius is employed and is mounted between two side rails with additional structural supports for the arcuate member on a nominally flat roofline.

  • Patent number: 7686390
Abstract: A motion simulation chair incorporates a base providing elevated attachment points for a number of support cables. A seat support is carried within the base and engages a seat for an occupant at a top end. The seat support has companion attachment points for the support cables at a bottom end. A control system incorporates a forward vertical control element constrained for three axis motion about a control point. A horizontal control element displaced upward from the control point and extending rearward from the forward vertical control element, engages the seat support. A control stick operated by the user imparts motion to the forward vertical control element about the control point. Moving the horizontal control element alters the suspension angles of the cables providing a corresponding tilt of the seat support and seat for realistic simulation of motion resulting from inputs to a computer game by the control stick.

  • Patent number: 7677181
Abstract: An interlocking precision flexible rail system for carrying a positionable machine tool employs a first rail element having a first step on a lower surface extending from a first end to a termination at a predetermined length and a second rail element having a mating step on an upper surface extending from a second end to receive the first step. A pair of first clips is removably affixed to a top surface of the first rail element adjacent the first end with a first pin and to the second rail element with a second pin in each clip. A pair of second clips is removably affixed to a bottom surface of the second rail element adjacent the second end with a third pin and to the first rail element with a forth pin in each clip. Alignment holes to receive the pins have tolerances defined in conjunction with the predetermined length of the step, the length of the step allowing a reduced tolerance. The first and second pairs of clips and associated pins laterally secure the rail elements in mated engagement.

  • Patent number: 7593933
Abstract: A collaborative interaction network system incorporates screens for entering login data and basic user profile data and, subsequent to successful login, screens for receiving user characteristics data including text entry of user created data and proportional selection of data elements predetermined by the system. A calculation engine then determines a universe of profile and characteristics data for all users based on similarity to the profile and characteristics data of a particular user. A visualizer is provided for displaying a representation of the universe of data as single points in multidimensional relation to a point representing the data of the particular user. The visualizer is scalable in range from the entire universe of data to data for users in a close neighborhood of the particular user's profile and characteristic data and allows expansion of a selected one of the single points for display of the profile and characteristic data of the user associated with the selected point.

  • Patent number: 7530266
Abstract: Characterizing atmospheric conditions is accomplished by measuring at least one varying spectral characteristic of sound at a plurality of intervals from a sound source with the point of measurement and the sound source in relative motion and separated by altitude. The spectral characteristic of the sound at each interval is attributed to a path traveled by the sound and a plurality of simultaneous equations is created for the plurality of paths using a second plurality of altitude segments for each path, each segment having a particular vector as a variable on the spectral characteristic, the initial coefficients in each vector assumed based on predetermined atmospheric models for each altitude segment. The resulting calculated vector and the predetermined atmospheric model are iterated for a minimized cost function in a variational analysis to determine the vector for each altitude segment, the vector providing atmospheric properties for the associated altitude segment.

  • Patent number: 7498964
Abstract: Nuclear spectroscopy systems have improved over the course of time especially with the advent of digital pulse processing. One disadvantage of digital processing, however, is that it has eliminated the older, universally compatible interface standard of analog signals. Digital component interfaces are often defined by computer software, protected by copyright and unique to a single manufacturer. Consequently, all components of an entire spectroscopy system must be from a single manufacturer. This not only dictates system wide component replacement, but also impedes optimization that would otherwise occur were component compatibility the rule rather than the exception. The present innovation describes a method and apparatus to relieve the present incompatibility between digital components of a nuclear spectroscopy system that are supplied by more than one manufacturer.
