  • Patent number: 6701152
Abstract: Method of assigning a fixed subscriber unit (FSU) to communicate with a particular base station and a system including a plurality of wireless FSUs. The system includes a plurality of base stations, which are coupled to a telecommunications network. Each FSU is coupled to a subscriber communication device, and each FSU is configured to communicate wirelessly with at least a base station. The FSU measures signal strength of a set of base stations. The FSU sends a message with the measured signal strength of the set of base stations to a base station. Circuitry coupled to the base station determines at least a base station to which the FSU is to be assigned based on the message and additional information in the circuitry coupled to the base station. In response to the determining by the circuitry coupled to the base station, the base station sends to the FSU a message including the base station to which the FSU is to be assigned.

  • Patent number: 6639915
Abstract: According to one embodiment, a system (900) includes a content addressable memory (CAM) address system (910) that receives voice packet data, and in response thereto, generates a channel number value (CHANNEL#). The CHANNEL# value can be used to generate a base address value for a voice packet buffer memory system (912). A base address value will correspond to a particular voice channel. The use of the CAM address system (910) can enable processing of voice data packets “on-the-fly,” allowing for rapid processing of voice data transmitted over a network structure and/or result in more efficient use of a buffer memory that stores voice data.

  • Patent number: 6223537
Abstract: In a catalytic combustor for gas turbines, the dimensions of the preheater and premix duct, the location of the preheater and premix fuel nozzles, and the number and location of air orifices in the combustor can inner liner are configured to result in low NOx production during both preheating combustion and catalytic combustion. Placement of the air orifices helps reduce the potential for autoignition within the premix duct, while enhancing fuel-air mixture uniformity upstream of the catalyst. At the same time, the overall configuration is optimized to result in the relative compactness of the catalytic combustor, making it particularly suitable for applications such as automotive turbine engines and microturbines.

  • Patent number: 6209390
Abstract: Turbocharger fatigue life monitors comprise at least one sensor that measures an actual operating condition of the turbocharger, e.g., turbine rotational speed or turbine inlet temperature. The device comprises a central processing unit for receiving information from each sensor and processing the information, using programs and predetermined turbocharger information, e.g., turbocharger material and stress data stored in one or more storage device in communication with the central processing unit, to provide an actual probability of turbocharger failure. The central processing unit compares the calculated probability of turbocharger failure to a predetermined specified probability of turbocharger failure stored in a storage device to determine whether turbocharger service is needed.

  • Patent number: 6066898
Abstract: A microturbine power generating system includes a combustor and a gas compressor that provides a flow of natural gas to a combustor. The flow of natural gas is regulated by varying the speed of the gas compressor to maintain gas compressor discharge pressure at a set point. The system further includes a turbine and an electrical generator that is driven by the turbine during a run mode of operation. A rectifier and a main inverter convert an output of the electrical generator into fixed frequency ac power during the run mode. A secondary inverter operates an electric motor of the gas compressor at the variables speeds during the run mode. During a startup mode, however, the main inverter operates the gas compressor motor, and the secondary inverter operates the electrical generator as a starter motor.
