  • Patent number: 6981501
Abstract: A personal air purifier employs tapered reticulated foam semi-cylinders sized to be closely received within a user's nostrils through slight expansion of the nostril. The semi-cylinders include a flat base and a spherical shaped surface at a distal end with flattened surfaces circumferentially spaced about the semi-cylinder for enhanced fit within the nostril. A lanyard is attached to tabs extending from the semi-cylinders to secure the personal air purifier when not inserted in the nostrils.

  • Patent number: 6977948
Abstract: A system (100) for receiving data from an asynchronous network and transmitting such data onto a synchronous network includes a voice packet buffer memory system (108) with a jitter buffer (118) having groups of entries storing data for voice channels and jitter buffer valid bit (JBVB) memory (120) for status of a particular entry for multiple jitter buffer groups. Writing or reading data from a jitter buffer entry sets a corresponding JBVB memory bit to a valid or invalid state respectively. Jitter buffer data may be read with a corresponding state memory bit. If a corresponding JBVB memory bit is valid, data from a jitter buffer (118) may be provided as an output. If a corresponding JBVB memory bit is invalid, a loss recovery algorithm may compensate for such invalid jitter buffer data.

  • Patent number: 6971388
Abstract: A device combining internal nasal filtration and internal nasal dilation operating synchronously provides air filtration by retaining particulate in a single piece foam nasal filter during inhalation through the nose. Internal nasal dilation is provided by the effect of a resilient member adhesively affixed to the nasal foam filter and which when bent from a planar surface applies outward biasing forces to each nostril so that breathing is facilitated. The soft, gentle foam of the nasal filter distributes the biasing forces over a large area and protects the inside of the nose from irritation. An improved internal nasal dilator filter functions to provide increased air flow through dilation while removing various sizes of particulate through filtration.

  • Patent number: 6966769
Abstract: A gaseous oxygen resonance igniter includes a body with a first inlet for gaseous oxygen incorporating a supersonic nozzle. An outlet from the body incorporates an orifice of predetermined size to maintain a desired pressure in the body. An aperture in the body opposite the first inlet provides a port to a ceramic resonance cavity. A ceramic bleed disc is engaged at a second end of the resonance cavity. An end cap incorporates a plenum adapted to receive high temperature oxygen flow from the resonance cavity through the bleed disc. An exhaust port is connected to the plenum for the high temperature oxygen which flows to a mixing chamber which introduces pilot fuel for ignition as a combustion initiation torch.

  • Patent number: 6955153
Abstract: A thermodynamic cycle for an internal combustion rotary engine is disclosed which achieves high efficiency through an asymmetry between the volume of air charge before compression and the volume of expanded air at the completion of expansion. The expanded volume is ideally selected such that the pressure of the exhaust gases is near the ambient pressure of the intake air. Three embodiments of engines which utilize the cycle are disclosed, one with the major components operating in uniform circular motion, one which utilizes lobe valves, and one which utilizes three sets of lobe valves such that three charges of air at various stages in the cycle are in the engine, thus increasing the power density of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6948343
Abstract: A lock adapter for an ammunition can having a clamp lever with an aperture includes a rod element received through the aperture and mounted to a side of the can. The rod element incorporates a relieved portion on an end opposite the side of the can and has a length and diameter sized in combination with the relieved portion for clearance of the aperture through an angular displacement of the clamp lever for opening the can. A hole substantially perpendicular to an axis of the rod receives a padlock. A bolt received through a drilled hole in the side of the can engages a tapped bore in the rod. A Bellville washer is placed on the bolt between the side of the can and the head of the bolt. The Bellville washer includes a sealing gasket adjacent the side of the can to seal the bolt and bolt hole preventing moisture from entering the can.

  • Patent number: 6907332
Abstract: Precision alignment of auxiliary equipment on an aircraft is accomplished by a locating tool for the aircraft inertial reference unit (IRU) attached to the auxiliary equipment mount. Aircraft attitude and heading are obtained using the IRU. The IRU is removed from its avionics tray in the aircraft and installed on the locating tool. The locating tool is connected for remote operation of the IRU and the IRU is operated to obtain attitude and heading. This attitude and heading is then compared to the IRU reading for the attitude and heading of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 6845149
Abstract: A system and method of communicating between a central office and a plurality of subscriber sites. Subscriber sites are separated into frequency groups. Each group spans a distance along the cable such that no more than a predetermined amount of attenuation is required to equalize the signal power of signals sent from a site in the group. Frequency groups closer to the central office are assigned higher frequency bands than frequency groups farther away from the central office. The central office includes a plurality of filters, each of which has a passband for passing the frequency band of a group and a stop band that substantially attenuates the frequencies of the other groups. The frequency group nearest the central office has no filter. The passband of a filter may also provide any needed attenuation to assure that signals arriving at the central office have approximately the same power levels.

  • Patent number: 6774821
Abstract: A Frequency Mapping Coding (FMC) scheme varies the application of error correction redundancy to transmitted data based on the channel transmission characteristics and the likelihood of error resulting from characteristics of the data stream being transmitted over the channel. The FMC is an error correction coding scheme making use of the non-linear feed-back mechanism and variable bit input step size to control redundancy applied. The FMC scheme accommodates the non-symmetrical nature of the SNR in bandwidth limited communications environments such as DSL to allow application of IQ based modulation, such as QAM, to these channels and is flexible for varying channel characteristics.
