Abstract: There is provided herein a system and method for generating music on multiple cell phones or other mobile computing devices, wherein two or more users (to include a user and a computer) acting together may create a joint musical work. The instant methods enable multiple users to create music in a synchronized fashion by using their cell phones or other portable electronic devices as musical instruments. The instant invention has been made possible because of the enhanced processor power within mobile electronic devices and has the potential to create added value in such devices by assisting users in exploiting multimedia features of their cell phones.

Abstract: An industrial catalytic converter and a removable catalyst element therefor wherein a solid extension is secured on the catalyst element such that, when the catalyst element is positioned in the converter housing, the solid extension will project into the element insertion channel of the housing in a manner effective to at least partially block the flow of exhaust gas around the catalyst element.

Abstract: According to a preferred aspect of the instant invention, there is provided herein a system and method for improving the computational efficiency of the DMO transformation that has many uses in the seismic processing arts. More particularly, the instant inventor has conceived and invented a faster method of calculating a log-stretch DMO transformation that utilizes multiple independent time windows, each with its own starting and ending time. A particularly preferred usage of the improved DMO method is as an element of a multiple attenuation program such as SRME.

Abstract: A lighted helmet having a protective shell having: an outside surface, a plurality of lamps which emit light from the outside surface; a power supply, typically a battery; and a motion detecting switch in communication with the power supply and the plurality of lamps. When the helmet is worn by a user, even small movements of the head produce forces, which in turn, trigger the motion detecting switch. Upon triggering of the motion detecting switch, the lamps are illuminated for a predetermined period of time. Upon expiration of the time period, subsequent motion will retrigger the switch, once again activating the lamps. The process continues until the helmet is placed in a stationary position, at which time the lamps are extinguished upon expiration of the then active time period.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to an apparatus for bi-directional communications of voice, data, and alarms, and simultaneous transmission of video signals over a single cable such as coax. In more particular, it applies to a communications system that utilizes coax-type cabling to offer computer related in-room guest services such as on-television screen display of their bills, etc. The instant invention utilizes a digital communications protocol, preferably PCM, to fit a plurality of general purpose communications channels within conventional broadcast television frequencies. These communication channels might variously be used to carry telephone voice data, thereby obviating the need for a separate phone network, or, more generally, they might be used to transport any sort of digital data (e.g., room billing information, outgoing faxes, etc.) The instant invention also provides a means for directing broadcast video information to specific rooms within the structure.

Abstract: A method for the ultra-fast photodissociation of water molecules into H2 and O2 gases is presented. Water vapor is initially produced and supplied to a photolysis bottle. Within the photolysis bottle, the water vapor is illuminated by a light signal to dissociate H2 and O2 gases from the water vapor. The dissociated H2 and O2 gases are radiated with an RF signal to inhibit recombination of the dissociated H2 and O2 gases, and the dissociated H2 and O2 gases are subsequently recovered.

Abstract: An ergonomic work station for computer components or for other purposes that is especially adapted for use by an individual having decreased mobility due to back pain or other conditions. The work station includes a base that extends beneath a chair or bed. A support arm has counter weight on a first side of a pivotal mount and a work table on a second side of the pivotal mount. The support arm may be pivoted to place the table in a work position in front of a user or in vertical position to permit unobstructed egress from or ingress to the chair or bed. The counter weight allows for the support arm to be easily pivoted from the work position to the vertical position by application of only very light pressure.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for enhancing a one-wire bus wherein a translator is inserted between a master and one or more slave devices. The translator monitors the data stream between the master and the slave device and, upon a reaching a predetermined position in the data stream, inserts known data into the data stream. The translator includes: a primary one-wire bus for communicating with the master; and at least one secondary one-wire buses each of which can communicate with one or more slave devices.

Abstract: A portable surveillance system having an easily transportable skid-type base structure that forms a support for a portable tower apparatus. Stabilizers are extendably mounted to the base structure. The tower components include a base member affixed to the base plate, a pivot bracket affixed to an upper end of the base member, a tower member pivotally mounted to the pivot bracket on the base member and one or more removable tower members that may be installed to achieve a desired height for the tower once it is pivoted to an upright orientation by manipulating a cable and pulley system. Various equipment mounts are provided on the tower to mount equipment such as an aerometer, a tower light, a wind direction vane, a video camera, a microwave telecom dish, or other equipment thereon. The ability to rapidly deploy the tower of invention enables rapid deployment for surveillance and other uses.

Abstract: In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the instant invention, there is provided a method and apparatus for enhancing the value of prerecorded works such as movies and music, as well as computer games, by randomly choosing alternative content segments at different points within the work, thereby potentially offering the user a different experience each time the work is played. This invention is suitable for use with specially prepared music, movies, videos, computer games and the like, wherein a plurality of interchangeable parallel or sequential content segments are specified. At each time point where such content segments are specified, the instant method selects randomly from them for presentation to the user.

Abstract: There is provided herein a first preferred arrangement of the instant invention, wherein an electronic patient monitor utilizes a computer CPU as an alarm signal generator, which CPU is preferably directly connected to a power amplifier and/or a speaker without an intervening (or subsequent) conventional volume control. The alarm signal is preferably expressed as a series of square waves. The volume of the alarm signal as heard through the speaker is controlled by varying the width of the square waves that represent the alarm signal with the duty cycle of the square waves being shortened to reduce the output alarm volume and lengthened to increase it.

Abstract: A modular fly fishing reel includes a frame with a side wall, a generally cylindrical axle cartridge removably mounted in a mounting socket of the frame side wall and also having an outer rotatable axle tube, and a spool having a hub removably secured on the axle tube by a quick release mechanism. The axle cartridge includes a drag assembly adjustable by a drag nut positioned adjacent the frame side wall and acting on the rotatable axle tube and spool. The quick release mechanism includes a detent that is spring biased through the spool hub to engage the axle tube, and releasable by a slide button or push button mounted on a spoke of the spool. The spool has a rim defining a line pocket and the side walls and bottom wall of the line pocket are convex for high strength and low weight.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for pressing and cooking and/or chilling food product logs. The apparatus and method comprise or use a tower press which has vertically compressible tiers and is positioned and mounted at one location for selectively elevating and lowering the tower press. The apparatus and method further comprise or use a container positioned at the same location such that the tower press can be lowered into the container for cooking and/or chilling the food product logs. The tower press can also be elevated out of the container for loading and removing food product logs from the vertically compressible tiers.

Abstract: A method and system that includes an IP flow monitor in conjunction with an IP route comparator and an IP route injector to minimize the size of routing tables that need to be stored in a router of an IP network. The IP flow monitor monitors information, such as destination information that identifies and differentiates one IP flow from another. The monitored information is passed to the IP route comparator, which determines if it has stored preferred path information for the IP flow identified by the monitored information. If so, the preferred path information is passed to the IP route injector, which in turn passes it to the router in the edge network. The router updates it routing table in accordance with the new routing information. Other described embodiments include an embodiment having a cache and embodiments in which one or both of the IP route comparator and the IP route injector are local to the network (instead of being local).

Abstract: ‘Patriot’ is an improved clonal turf bermudagrass cultivar suitable for many applications including golf course fairways and tees athletic fields, home and commercial landscape sites, and parks and playgrounds. It is a tetraploid (2n=4x=36 chromosomes) interspecific F1 hybrid from a cross of Cynodon dactylon by C. transvaalensis characterized by dark blue-green color, vigorous growth, good winter hardiness, and good turf quality.
