  • Patent number: 8323389
Abstract: An air scrubber for removing oils and contaminates from air has an underside inlet for the introduction of contaminated air. The contaminated air passes through a reduced aperture passageway which prevents retrograde flow of contaminates or cleaning fluids contained in the scrubber. The contaminated air is thereafter directed upwards through a scrub reservoir having a plurality of apertures, such that the contaminated air passing through the apertures forms jets which cause interaction between the cleaning fluid and the contaminates, thereby creating droplets containing cleaning fluid with entrapped contaminates, and cleaned air. The droplets and air are directed to a mist eliminator having a plurality of chevron V structures which capture the droplets and return them to the main reservoir. A circulating pump moves cleaning fluid from the main reservoir to an upper reservoir which spills into the cleaning reservoir.

  • Patent number: 8257991
Abstract: A sensor for force is formed from an elastomeric cylinder having a region with apertures. The apertures have passageways formed between them, and an optical fiber is introduced into these passageways, where the optical fiber has a grating for measurement of tension positioned in the passageways between apertures. Optionally, a temperature measurement sensor is placed in or around the elastomer for temperature correction, and if required, a copper film may be deposited in the elastomer for reduced sensitivity to spot temperature variations in the elastomer near the sensors.

  • Patent number: 8245063
Abstract: A clock selector operative on two clocks operating on different domains and responsive to a SELECT input provides a transition from a first clock to a second clock, and from a second clock to a first clock with a dead zone therebetween. The delay is provided by a doublet register having a first register coupled to a second register, the two registers operative on one of the clock domains. Additionally, a clock selector is operative on two clocks which are each accompanied by a clock availability signal where the state machine provides a variety of states to create a dead zone between selections, and to bring the state machine to a known state until a clock signal is again available.

  • Patent number: 8165469
Abstract: An optical add drop multiplexer (OADM) for use in a sensing system has the OADMs arranged either in a cascade or in a ring, with each OADM accepting a source input and generating a source output, and accepting a signal input and generating a signal output, where the source input includes a broadband optical source for use in providing optical power to a plurality of sensor gratings arranged in a series string, each sensor grating responsive to a physical parameter at a unique wavelength. The series string of sensors is excited by optical power coupled from the broadband source port, and returns optical signal response to a sensor port of the OADM, which optical energy is added to optical energy at the signal input port to form the signal output port. In another embodiment for a ring topology, the source ports and signal ports include a clockwise and counterclockwise set of source and sensor signals, and the sensor signals for CW and CCW each include a primary and secondary signal.

  • Patent number: 8159683
Abstract: A scanner for a keyboard device having a reflective surface for each key has a sensor associated with each key that includes an LED and a photo-transistor. The LED is turned ON for a first measurement, followed by a second measurement with the LED turned off, and a subtraction of the second measurement from the first yields an illumination value for a key x. The LEDs and associated photo-transistors are sequentially enabled in groups of n, thereby eliminating optical interference. Each key x has associated correction parameters of LinRest(x) associated with illumination value with the key in the rest (up) position, LinDown(x) associated with illumination value with the key in the down position, TrebErr(x) associated with the reflectivity effect of one adjacent key(x+1), and BassErr(x) associated with the reflectivity effect of another adjacent key(x?1).

  • Patent number: 8161205
Abstract: A reduced complexity maximum likelihood decoder receives a stream of received symbols Y accompanied by a channel estimate matrix H. A variable transformation part includes a first part which converts Y and H into Z and R by computing a matrix R having at least one non-zero element in a row, such that the product of R and Q produces matrix H. A second variable transformation part column-swaps matrix H to form H?, thereafter generating Q? and R? subject to the same constraints as was described for Q and R. Transformed variables Z and Z? are formed by multiplying Y by QH and Q?H, respectively. A reduced complexity maximum likelihood decoder has a first part which accepts Z and R and forms a first metric table having entries of all possible x2 accompanied by estimates of x1 derived from x2 and Z, and also including a distance metric.

  • Patent number: 8151155
Abstract: A re-transmit processor for a wireless communication system includes a pointer memory which contains pointers associated with particular packet data in a host memory. The re-transmit processor directs data associated with the pointers to be applied to a media access controller, which optionally contains an encryption function, the output of which is coupled to a block buffer and to an output interface. Upon receipt of a transmission request, the host memory locations associated with the pointers are read and the data directed to the media access controller, which adds a header, a CRC, and optionally encrypts the data, thereafter placing it in the block buffer and the output interface. Upon provision of the packet data to the MAC, the associated pointer is initialized to a FREE or UNUSED value, and upon receipt of an acknowledgement of the packet accompanied by a packet identifier from a receiving station, the packet associated with the packet identifier is removed from the block buffer.

  • Patent number: 8139699
Abstract: A preamble detector for a plurality of streams of baseband digitized signals has a plurality of preamble processors, each preamble processor coupled to an input and generating an output. Each preamble processor has an input coupled to a first delay, the output of the first delay coupled to a second delay generating an output. The first and second delay are substantially equal to a preamble part. A first multiplier generates an output from a conjugated output of the second delay output and a first delay output. A second multiplier generates an output from a conjugated first delay output and an input stream. The first and second multiplier outputs are accumulated over an interval, and the complex output of the accumulator is formed into a magnitude, thereby generating the output of each preamble processor. The outputs of the preamble processors are summed and compared to a threshold to generate a preamble detect.

  • Patent number: 8081700
Abstract: A transmit power allocation method for computing a transmit beamforming W matrix for a N streams of data, the method has a first step of measuring a receive channel characteristic H matrix, a second step of decomposing the H matrix into a U matrix which is formed from the left eigenvectors of the H matrix, an ? matrix which is a diagonal matrix formed from the square roots of the eigenvalues of said H matrix and re-ordered by strength, and a VT matrix with rows comprising the right eigenvectors of H, such that U?VT=H. The transmit beamforming W matrix is then formed from the re-ordered V matrix of the previous decomposition. Optional waterfilling methods for a plurality of subcarriers may then be done using either a minimum mean square error, an optimal signal to noise ratio, or any other waterfilling method which optimizes a desired metric, such as signal to noise ratio or minimum mean square error.
