  • Patent number: 5855818
Abstract: An electrically conductive elastomeric foam is presented. Preferably, the elastomeric foam comprises polyurethane foam and in accordance with an important feature of this invention, the elastomeric foam is rendered electrically conductive by incorporating therein electrically conductive fibers. As used herein, a "fiber" has a diameter greater than or equal to one micron, and an aspect ratio (length/diameter) greater than or equal to fifteen. In accordance with the method of the present invention, the elastomeric foam is prepared from a polyurethane stock comprised of a polyhydroxyl compound, an organic polyisocyanate compound, a catalyst, a foam stabilizer and an amount of electrically conductive fiber which is effective to render the elastomeric foam electrically conductive.

  • Patent number: 5854445
Abstract: An electric power busway system comprises a bus bar support housing with the opposite side plates of the housing shaped with troughs to hold the bus bars in their relative positions, preventing the bus bars from moving towards or away from one another and providing the necessary short-circuit protection and bending resistance. The metal side plates are preferably fastened together without the use of fasteners or the need for welding, through the use of a punch and die tool set. A protective insulating sheet is sandwiched between the insulated bus bars and the housing to protect the bus bar insulation coating from ruptures or tears. Clamping blocks are provided outside the protective busway housing to apply friction on the bus bars within, keeping them from sliding out of the housing assembly. The integral busway housing and clamping serve as a ground conduction facility, with the clamping blocks providing a mechanism to connect the busway section to an adjoining section.

  • Patent number: 5854995
Abstract: Line voltage and line current signals are sensed on a power line having at least one conducting path. The sensed line voltages and line currents are converted into a digital signal. A phase-to-neutral voltage signal and phase current signal are computed from the digital signal to thereby define a phase of the power line. An interval of orthogonality is determined from the sensed voltage and current signals, coinciding with passage of an integral number of cycles of a fundamental frequency reference signal which is computed from the computed phase-to-neutral voltage signal. A vector metering quantity is computed for the determined interval of orthogonality from the computed phase-to-neutral voltage signal and the computed phase current signal. The vector metering quantities to be computed may be identified and computed based upon an associated detent. The vector metering quantity is also computed based on an identified circuit topology.

  • Patent number: 5845637
Abstract: An ambient air breathing device for use in combination with a full face mask. Full face masks are intended to be sealed around periphery of the face of the wearer and, therefore, require that the wearer breath on tanked air even before such air would be necessary to sustain life. The breathing device of the invention allows the wearer to breathe ambient air thus conserving otherwise supplied air for use when needed.

  • Patent number: 5847630
Abstract: A compact current limiting circuit breaker utilizes a polymer current limiter, an arc rail and an arc gap for effective overcurrent protection. Upon the occurrence of contact separation an arc is drawn between the circuit breaker contacts and driven toward an arc rail. Commutation of the arc from the stationary contact to the arc rail effectively changes the current path to incorporate the polymer current limiter which rapidly suppresses the overcurrent. Circuit isolation is achieved by extinction of the arc within the arc gap between the movable contact and the arc rail.

  • Patent number: 5841907
Abstract: A method of verifying the authenticity of an object is disclosed employing a spatial integrating optical correlator. An unreadable and hence non-counterfeitable mask (e.g., a. complex mask or a phase mask) is coupled to the object and the optical correlator compares the mask with a reference mask on which it is scanned over. The correlator produces a correlation spot or image having an intensity which exceeds a given level if the mask is genuine. An alternate embodiment includes a fingerprint or other personalized pattern bonded to the mask, and the fingerprint or other personalized pattern on the card is compared to a reference fingerprint or other personalized pattern of the card holder for added security.
