  • Patent number: 5106633
Abstract: A food-grade oxygen scavenger for removing oxygen from foods and beverages in containers is prepared by immobilizing dried yeast containing at least 92% dry matter in a solid material such as wax or paraffin. The solid material allows for very slow penetration of water and permits the yeast to contact only water that penetrates therethrough. The immobilized yeast is coated on an inside surface of a container or on a surface of a closure such as a stopper that is on the inside of the container when closed. After adding a food or beverage and closing the container, the immobilized yeast removes oxygen from the container. The closed container and its contents can be pasteurized and the yeast retain sufficient viability to remove oxygen.

  • Patent number: 5105901
Abstract: A four wheel drive system of a vehicle including a power plant for producing driving force, has a front wheel driving mechanism for transmitting the driving force to drive a right and left front wheels and rear wheel driving mechanism for transmitting the driving force to drive right and left rear wheels. Right and left wheel clutches provided in one of the driving mechanisms for control the amount of the driving force transmitted to the wheels, and steering angle detecting device detects a steering angle of a steering wheel. A control device increases torque distribution for the rear wheel driving mechanism in a cornering condition of the vehicle as a steering angle change rate is increased. The system provides the vehicle with a desirable torque distribution during a cornering operation so that improved cornering property is obtained.

  • Patent number: 5106164
Abstract: A blasting method which comprises delivering electrical energy at a rate of at least 100 megawatts per microsecond until a peak power of at least 3 gigawatts is reached across the gap of two poles of a coaxial electrode assembly immersed in an electrolyte within a confined area of a substance to be blasted. A dielectric break-down of the electrolyte in the confined area is produced resulting in the formation of plasma within the confined area which creates a pressure sufficient to blast the substance in the manner of a high explosive charge.

  • Patent number: 5106546
Abstract: A method is described in which the operative condition of the cooling sections of a slot die for making flat films of thermoplastic material, or of an annular die of a blow molding extruder for making tubular films from synthetic thermoplastics, is tested. The cooling sections are provided with lines for supplying and discharging cooling air and the lines for supplying cooling air are connected, as required, to a central cooling air feed line, which is under superatmospheric pressure, by solenoid valves controlled by an electronic computer. In one embodiment of the invention, a testing program is performed in which the cooling air feed line is disconnected by a shut-off valve from the branch lines leading to respective solenoid valves when the latter are closed.

  • Patent number: 5105547
Abstract: A four wheel automotive vehicle is placed in a horizontal plane and is capable of being tilted in a direction perpendicular to a lengthwise direction of the car body. After determining a reference position of each front wheel in a transverse direction, perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the automotive vehicle, the plane is tilted at an angle proportional to a cant of a road in the transverse direction. While rotating synchronously the front and rear wheels in the same direction as they would rotate when the automotive vehicle moves forward, a toe angle of each rear wheel and a deflection from the reference position of each front wheel, in the transverse direction, are measured. Observing the measurements of toe angle and deflection, the toe angles of the rear wheels are adjusted totally to a desired toe angle until the deflection becomes almost zero. Thereafter, observing the measurements of toe angle, the toe angles of the front wheels are adjusted totally to a desired toe angle.

  • Patent number: 5105190
Abstract: An electromagnetic identfication system of the kind in which a transmitter generates an electromagnetic interrogation field in a detection zone. At least one passive responder is provided capable of disturbing the interrogation field. A detection circuit detects a disturbance of the interrogation field caused by a responder. The responder is a single receiver circuit which responds to the interrogation field which supplies energy to activate a digital encoding circuit having a binary-code defining circuit. The encoding circuit is arranged, in operation, through a switch to vary the electrical characteristics of the receiver circuit to generate a code signal that is detectable by the detection circuit. The encoding circuit is arranged to control the switch during the pre-determined periods of time for varying the electrical characteristics of the receiver circuit. A programmer is provided to modulate the transitter to generate a modulated interrogation field.
