Abstract: An analog waveform such as speech is encoded by dividing the data stream into successive time frames consisting of Time Encoded Speech (TES) symbols. The distribution of the TES symbols in each frame is compared for successive frames whereby a small change causes a repeat code in place of a frame of corresponding digital signal data.

Abstract: A decontamination chamber entranceway to an asbestos removal work area includes rigid swinging doors for a rapid escape from the contaminated work area due to an emergency such as a fire or smoke. Also during a power failure it is easy for the workers to leave the work area through the rigid swinging doors of the invention. Each of the doors may include an air inlet opening having at least one plastic flap covering the inlet opening which allows suitable amounts of air to flow through the inlet to maintain a negative air pressure in the work area while having air flow in the work area sufficient to change the air at least every 10 to 15 minutes. The plastic flaps of the doors are preferable pivotally-mounted rigid clear plastic which seal automatically upon loss of negative air pressure in the work area. The rigid flaps can be electro-mechanically operated to positively control size and functioning of air inlet openings and close off the openings upon emergency conditions.

Abstract: This invention relates to a mounting plate assembly for a hinge, preferably for a furniture hinge, comprising a base plate and an intermediate plate, which is adjustable relative to the base plate and is adapted to be clamped against or connected to the base plate by a screw in different adjusted positions and on which the hinge bracket is preferably adjustably mounted.

Abstract: A method of melt granulation for powdery material is disclosed wherein the powdery material is discharged onto the upper surface of a heated rotary spreader for migration under centrifugal force to the periphery of the spreader accompanying by melting of a portion of the material and enrobing of non-melted particles by the melted material for discharge as enlarged granules from the periphery of the spreader. To improve the quality of the granules produced, the feed material is supplied to the spreader at two separate locations. The first location is the central portion of the spreader to provide the melted material and the second location is adjacent to the periphery of the spreader. The spreader is preferably in the form of a concave bowl or inverted truncated cone or dish.

Abstract: The present invention relates, by way of novel industrial products, to the sulfonylphenyl-.beta.-D-thioxyloside compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which: X is a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom;R is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, a substituted amino group NR.sub.1 R.sub.2 (where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, which are identical or different, are each a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group, it being possible for R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, taken together, to form a piperidinyl or morpholinyl group with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded) or a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted in the para position by a cyano group or by a halogen atom; andY is the hydrogen atom or an aliphatic acyl group.These compounds are useful in therapeutics, especially as venous antithrombotics.

Abstract: The invention relates to the application of a releasing agent to a surface of a glass plate which is to be subsequently bent in a heated state together with another glass plate thereon. The glass plate is held in a standing posture, and hot air is blown perpendicularly against a surface of the glass plate, and simultaneously an aqueous solution of a releasing agent is sprayed from a plurality of spray nozzles into a space in front of the glass plate surface such that the sprayed solution mixes with the hot air before arriving at the glass plate surface. In an embodiment the spray nozzles are directed parallel to the glass plate or obliquely so as to make a small acute angle with the glass plate and arranged such that the hot air forces droplets of the sprayed solution to move toward the glass plate surface together with the hot air. In another embodiment the spray nozzles are directed perpendicularly toward the glass plate and arranged such that the sprayed solution soon mixes with the hot air.

Abstract: The present invention relates, by way of novel industrial products, to the .beta.-D-phenylthioxyloside compounds of the formula ##STR1## in which: X represents a sulfur atom or an oxygen atom;R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3, which are identical or different, each represent a hydrogen atom, a nitro group, a cyano group, a group --CO--R (in which R represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group or a trifluoromethyl group), an amino group, an acetamido group (NHCOCH.sub.3), a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy group, a trifluoromethyl group or a phenyl group substituted by one or more cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl groups, it being possible for R.sub.1 and R.sub.2, taken together, to form, with the phenyl group to which they are bonded, a .beta.-naphthalenyl group which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more cyano, nitro or trifluoromethyl groups; andY represents the hydrogen atom or an aliphatic acyl group.These compounds are useful as therapeutic agents, especially as venous antithrombotics.

Abstract: Apparatus for affecting positional adjustment of a machine member has an adjustment screw nonrotatably connected to the machine member and screwed into a nut formed as a worm wheel. The worm wheel, meshes with a worm, connected by a worm shaft to an actuator assembly for rotating the worm. The worm shaft is rotatably and axially displaceably mounted in a housing in which the worm wheel is rotatably mounted and the worm shaft is rotatably and axially non-displaceably mounted in a slider, which is guided in the housing for movement in the axial direction of the worm shaft. The slider is reciprocable by a fluid-operable piston-cylinder unit to an extent which corresponds to the desired adjustment of the screw.

Abstract: A cooling tank for a water cooler, comprising a housing for holding water, having set therein a condensing coil which is uniformly arranged around the inner wall surface of said housing with one end connected to the expansion valve of said water cooler and an opposite end connected to the compressor of said water cooler for circulation of cooling medium, and a plurality of coil-shaped water pipes which are separately mounted in said housing with each two opposite ends respectively connected to an independent inlet valve and an independent outlet valve mounted on said housing at the outside. A plurality of reservoirs are separately connected to the inlet and outlet valves of each coil-shaped water pipes so that the liquid from each reservoir can be separately pumped into the coil-shaped water pipes for circulation through the cooling tank for cooling.

Abstract: A roller comprises an axle (2), a pair of inner collars (3) one adjacent each end of the axle, a bearing (4, 5) mounted on each inner collar (3), an outer collar (6) mounted on each bearing, and a cylindrical member (7) mounted on and spanning the outer collars. The fit of the inner collar (3) onto the axle (2) is relatively loose or of high tolerance, relative to the fit of the collars (3, 6) onto the bearing (4, 5). Preferably the inner collars (3) are rebated (22), so that parts of the inner collar remain substantially clear of the axle (2).

Abstract: An angled picture frame hanger assures safe and secure hanging of wooden picture frames with narrow moldings under heavy weight loading and/or soft wood moldings of all widths. The hanger includes a flat metal plate with two screw holes. At right angles to the plate are flange portions that overlap and butt against an inner edge of a rear of the frame. An angled hook portion is connected to the flat plate. Wire or cord is attached through the angled hook portion and the frame is ready for hanging on a wall or other support. The flange portions act as a brace against the weakening of the frame due to splitting of the wood fibers by the fastening screws. The angled hook portion reduces the forces of the pull of wire or cord to lessen the stress upon the attached flat plate.

Abstract: Exercise equipment for use by wheelchair occupants to enable exercise of muscle groups located in the upper torso that are used in lifting or transferring loads and incorporating various options with respect to weight stacks and pivotal linkage arrangements to enable a wheelchair occupant to use a single hand or both hands when exercising. The exercise device includes structure which enables the wheelchair and the occupant to be securely anchored in relation to a generally vertically disposed, laterally open frame which enables the wheelchair and occupant to enter the frame when facing in either direction.

Abstract: An improved retractable knife comprises two coalescent casings which has a sliding seat and a driving button inside. Two casings are combined firmly so that the sliding seat can move inside the casings firmly.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing lipid microparticles of microcrystalline appearance, of a water-insoluble substance possessing an affinity for phospholipids and of at least one phospholipid, the microparticles being stable in suspension in an aqueous solution, characterized in that:a) the said substance and the said phospholipid or phospholipids are dissolved in a common organic solvent for the said substance and for the said phospholipid or phospholipids,b) the solution of said substance and of the said phospholipid or phospholipids is mixed with an aqueous solution in an amount such that an insolubilization takes place in the form of a precipitate, andc) the organic solution is removed to recover an aqueous solution containing the microparticles in the form of microsuspensions.

Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of a metal foil, the metal foil is deposited electrolytically on an endless carrier belt, preferably an endless metal belt, in one or more cells, the current density being set to different levels in the plurality of cells and/or within each individual cell. A post treatment of the meal foil manufactured takes place wholly or at least in part on the endless carrier belt, thereby metal foils, respectively metal composite foils can be manufactured at favorable cost and with low labor input.

Abstract: A toy is made up of a number of different elements which fit together in a particular manner to form a spherical body. A first set of elements are each of a pyramid shape with a hexagonal cross-section and a second set of elements are each of a pyramid shape with a pentagonal cross-section. The respective elements fit together in a particular manner to form a spherical body and have interfitting tongue and groove connectors.

Abstract: A continuous silver refining cell comprises a tank containing an electrolyte, at least one vertical cathode disk mounted on a rotating horizontal shaft placed above the tank so that slightly less than half of the disk is immersed in the electrolyte, at least one anode basket containing impure silver anodes immersed in the electrolyte adjacent the cathode disk, and a diaphragm separating the cathode disk from the anode basket to form cathode and anode compartments. A scraper is provided for continuously removing pure silver crystals from the cathode and directing it to the side of the cell. A chain tubular conveyor may be provided for continuously or semi-continuously withdrawing a mud containing gold and other precious metals from the bottom of the cell.

Abstract: A tray member is provided including at least one pair of opposite side margin depending flanges and a center downwardly recessed portion whose undersurface is co-planar with the lower edges of the depending flanges. The downwardly recessed center portion defines an upwardly opening recess in which to receive the lower end of a paint can and the tray member includes widely spaced apart depending threaded shanks from which a clamp bar is supported through the utilization of wing nuts threadedly engaged on the shanks. The tray member may be slid into position on the horizontal shelf of a step ladder and removably clamp engaged with the shelf by tightening the wing nuts in order to clamp the shelf between the clamp bar and the underside of the tray member.
