  • Patent number: 8143599
Abstract: A system and method for imaging biological samples on multiple surfaces of a support structure are disclosed. The support structure may be a flow cell through which a reagent fluid is allowed to flow and interact with the biological samples. Excitation radiation from at least one radiation source may be used to excite the biological samples on multiple surfaces. In this manner, fluorescent emission radiation may be generated from the biological samples and subsequently captured and detected by detection optics and at least one detector. The detected fluorescent emission radiation may then be used to generate image data. This imaging of multiple surfaces may be accomplished either sequentially or simultaneously. In addition, the techniques of the present invention may be used with any type of imaging system. For instance, both epifluorescent and total internal reflection methods may benefit from the techniques of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 8140418
Abstract: There is provided a method and system for real-time authorization of cardholder-not-present transactions. An authorization request application may be implemented on an electronic device, such as a cellular phone, a personal media player, or a computer. A cardholder may register a card account, such as a credit account, a debit account, a gift card account, and so forth, for participation in the real-time authorization program. The cardholder may then receive authorization requests when cardholder-not-present transactions are attempted. Via the authorization request application, the cardholder may approve or decline the authorization request. In addition, the cardholder may configure settings for automatically responding to missed authorization requests. The authorization request application may also allow the cardholder to flag automatically approved requests as unauthorized within a certain time period after an automatic approval response is sent, thereby enabling prompt detection of fraudulent activity.

  • Patent number: 8135187
Abstract: Techniques for removing image autoflourescence from fluorescently stained biological images are provided herein. The techniques utilize non-negative matrix factorization that may constrain mixing coefficients to be non-negative. The probability of convergence to local minima is reduced by using smoothness constraints. The non-negative matrix factorization algorithm provides the advantage of removing both dark current and autofluorescence.

  • Patent number: 8131645
Abstract: Various techniques are provided for the gifting between multiple electronic devices of media content provided by an online digital media provider. An offer and acceptance of a selected gift file is accomplished between a gifter device and a receiving giftee device using a near-field communication (NFC) connection. If a connection to the online provider is available, the gifter device may transmit a gift request by which the gifter's account is charged for the gift file. Thereafter, a gift file created using DRM keys associated with the giftee's account may be downloaded to the giftee device. If a network connection is unavailable, the giftee device may transfer a locked gift file and a corresponding gift license to the giftee device using a peer-to-peer connection. The giftee device may authenticate the license and unlock the gift file once a connection to the online provider is available.
