  • Patent number: 7454646
Abstract: There is provided a system for comparing the phase characteristics of three generated clock signals, each having a unique phase relationship with an original clock signal, with the original clock signal and to select a signal based on the proximity of the phase characteristic of the three signals to the original signal. The selection of a clock signal that most closely approximates the original significantly reduces lock time when attempting to synchronize an internal clock with an external clock. Additionally, there is provided a method for comparing three clock signals with an original clock signal and selecting from the three clock signals one that is approximately in phase with the original clock signal.

  • Patent number: 7453152
Abstract: The present technique is directed toward the fabrication of integrated circuits and provides for the production of a hardened metal layer on the surface of a semiconductor wafer to reduce the amount of material removed during chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) of the metal layer. This hardened layer may be produced, for example, by oxidizing the metal surface and/or coating the metal surface with a polymer. In one implementation, a relatively thick and dense oxide layer is formed on the wafer metal surface prior to CMP, by injecting, for example, an oxidant, such as oxygen or ozone, near the end of an annealing cycle. The hardened metal beneficially protects recessed regions from CMP chemical attack and CMP pad deformation, and thus reduces the thickness-to-planarity, dishing, and waste generation realized during CMP.

  • Patent number: 7450747
Abstract: The present technique provides a system and method for efficiently customizing an imaging system, such as a medical diagnostic imaging system. Based on images typically produced by one or more imaging systems, the present technique forms a plurality of image subject matter groups each having a plurality of related image types/views and one representative image type/view. Each customer is then provided with a plurality of predefined image style options for each of the plurality of representative image types/views. The predefined image style selected for each of the plurality of representative image types/views is then applied to each of the plurality of related image types/views in the respective image subject matter group. The imaging system is then automatically customized based on the foregoing predefined image style selections.

  • Patent number: 7443765
Abstract: A reconfigurable linear array of sensors (e.g., optical, thermal, pressure, ultrasonic). The reconfigurability allows the size and spacing of the sensor elements to be a function of the distance from the beam center. This feature improves performance for imaging systems having a limited channel count. The improved performance, for applications in which multiple transmit focal zones are employed, arises from the ability to adjust the aperture for a particular depth.

  • Patent number: 7444010
Abstract: A method for reducing artifacts in image data generated by a computed tomography system is provided. The artifacts are due to the presence of a high density object in a subject of interest. Initially, measured sinogram data is received from the computed tomography system. The sinogram data is representative of a plurality of sinogram elements. The measured sinogram data is reconstructed to generate initial reconstructed image data. A trace of the high density object is identified in the measured sinogram data. Then a region of interest is identified in the initial reconstructed image data. An optimization criterion is identified based upon the region of interest. The sinogram elements in the trace of the high density object in the measured sinogram data is iteratively adjusted based upon the optimization criterion to generate corrected sinogram data. The corrected sinogram data is reconstructed to generate improved reconstructed image data.

  • Patent number: 7441321
Abstract: An ultrasonic transducer device comprising: an ultrasonic transducer array micromachined on a substrate; flexible electrical connections connected to the transducer array; and a body of acoustically attenuative material that supports the substrate and the flexible electrical connections. The acoustic backing material may contain additional features, such as tabs or notches, for use in positioning the transducer on fixtures during manufacturing or positioning the transducer within a housing during final assembly. Tabs or other features that are used only during manufacturing may be subsequently removed from the device. The MUT device itself may also be thinned so as to provide flexibility as desired. The backing material is preferably matched in acoustic impedance to the silicon wafer so as to prevent reflection at the interface of any acoustic energy propagating rearward, i.e., in the direction away from the device front surface.
