  • Patent number: 5147314
Abstract: A sheath which contains a catheter or guide wire is provided with a connector at one end which, in turn, has a sealing membrane which can be pierced by a hollow needle when the catheter/guide wire is to be expelled from the adaptor assembly. An introducer, which is to be implanted in a body cavity such as a blood vessel, also has a hub with a sealing membrane disposed across the hub so as to abut the sealing membrane of the adaptor assembly. This membrane is also pierced by the hollow needle when the connection is made prior to insertion of a catheter or guide wire into the blood vessel. In one embodiment, a syringe may be provided with a connector and mounted on the hub of the introducer.

  • Patent number: 5147193
Abstract: The power conversion machine includes a housing which defines a spherical cavity as well as a stator which is secured within the housing on a first axis. The stator is provided with an annular groove which is disposed on an angle to the axis of the stator while an annular guide member is slidably mounted in the groove for rotation about the stator axis. A first rotor part is secured to a shaft which is rotatably mounted on the stator and carries a pair of pistons which define ball shaped segments within the cavity of the housing. A second rotor part having a second pair of pistons defining a pair of ball shaped segments within the cavity is disposed on a second axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Pins are used to secure the second rotor part to the annular guide member for rocking of the second rotor part about the second axis during rotation of the two rotor parts about the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 5130062
Abstract: The invention relates to a packing (2) for a material and heat exchange column (1), in which a gas phase and a liquid phase are brought into contact with one another, said packing comprising a multiplicity of identical packing elements (4) which are substantially in the form of a circular hollow cylinder whose annularly extending wall (6) is outwardly concave and inwardly convex and forms two outer edges (11) extending therearound, said hollow cylinder having a high ratio of outside diameter (D) to height (H). In order to reduce the pressure drop and to increase capacity and effectiveness, provision is made for the packing (2) to consist of a multiplicity of superimposed layers (3) of packing elements (4) which lie flat, are distributed randomly in each layer (3), and internally have a free passage cross-section, and in which the ratio of outside diameter (D) to height (H) is from about 6:1 to about 10:1.

  • Patent number: 5127862
Abstract: The water craft is provided with a longitudinally disposed recess in the deck with a pair of ridges defining the recess and extending along the sides of the craft. Each ridge is rounded with respect to a centrally disposed rounded crown in the recess so as to provide a surface against which a windsurfer may stand during windsurfing. The ridges are also more gently rounded with respect to the crown in a stern section of the craft to provide for a comfortable seating arrangement for sailing or rowing purposes. The underside of the craft is provided with a pair of runners along the longitudinal edges and a centrally disposed chines. In addition, a winglet extends from the terminal rear end of each runner in order to enhance stability of the craft in water and to direct water out the sides of the stern during sailing.

  • Patent number: 5113123
Abstract: A ring spinning machine with various driving systems 10, 12 for driving spindles, driving arrangements, ring rails and the like is regulated in the case of power failure down to a zero revolution range while maintaining preselected revolution relationships. The driving system which is allocated to the load with the greatest effective inertia serves, at first, for the supply of the other driving system in a generator service. Only in a lower revolution range are the driving systems backed via a battery of relatively low capacity.

  • Patent number: 5095586
Abstract: A combing head comprises carrying and drive rollers for the lap roll, a cylinder, a detaching roller pair and nippers reciprocable between a drawn-back position and an advanced position. When the trailing end of the lap material runs off the winding tube, the combing machine is stopped at a time after the detaching roller pair have detached a fringe from the lap in the nippers and after the fringe has been separated from the lap. The lap trailing end and the empty winding tube are then removed and a new lap roll is placed on the carrying and drive rollers. Lap material is unwound from the new lap roll until the start of the lap has passed beyond the nip line of the nippers. The combing machine then restarts. The method can, if required, be performed substantially or completely automatically and calls for only a short machine down time.
