  • Patent number: 5307547
Abstract: Threads consisting of one or more filaments are drawn by being pulled through a braking fluid. Threads consisting of a plurality of filaments are formed into a ribbon for the drawing process. Inside the drawing bath, the thread is heated to a temperature corresponding to its second order transition temperature and is braked in such a way that its tension reaches the tension necessary for drawing the filament or the filaments. Through setting and/or controlling the length of the thread path inside the braking fluid, the viscosity of the fluid, additional mechanical braking means and/or the flow characteristics in the bath, the process is made adaptable for different thread materials and different thread speeds and can be optimized for thread quality. The device for carrying out the process has a quasi-closed main chamber through which a braking fluid is circulated. An antechamber with a variable fluid level may be arranged in front of the entrance to the main chamber.

  • Patent number: 5303453
Abstract: A textile machine is provided with apparatus for preparing the trailing end of a lap and a leading end of a fresh lap so that each end has a reduced fiber mass per unit length of lap in the prepared end. These lap ends are thereafter superimposed and joined together for subsequent processing in a combing unit of a combing machine or a drafting unit of a ribbon lap machine. The respective ends of the two laps may be prepared by a tearing action caused by clamping of the respective lap end between two spaced apart nip lines which are moved away from each other and wherein the spacing is slightly more than the length of the longest fiber in the lap. Preparation of a lap end may also be accomplished using a suction head for clamping of a lap along a nip line in order to carry out tearing of the lap to produced a prepared end.

  • Patent number: 5303687
Abstract: A blade mount for an I.D. saw blade has an elongated female tensioning ring which has a male pilot lip which fits into a recess in a radial flange of the wheelhead. The male pilot lip and a narrowed annular flexure in the flange of the wheelhead compensate automatically for deflections in the blade mount caused by the tensioned saw blade so as to eliminate saw blade flutter during operation. The female tensioning ring is sized to have a width at least twice the radial thickness thereof so as to resist turning inside out under the tensioning force imposed upon the saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5299345
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of untwisted yarns from at least two fibril bundles. It gives intermediate method steps, which are so introduced between the main steps of the conventional production method for such yarns (spinning, stretching and texturing), that the reciprocal position of the individual fibril bundles resulting from the arrangement of the spinnerets can be retained through the process. A non-positively acting false twister for each individual fibril bundles, whose strength or thickness can be varied, also makes it possible to reproducibly vary the mixing the fibrils of the individual bundles in their contact zones.

  • Patent number: 5282141
Abstract: The method for mixing textile fibers utilizes a computer which is inputted with data concerning the characteristics of the fibers of the individual fiber bales to be processed as well as the data indicative of the desired characteristics of the board sliver or yarn which is to be manufactured from the fiber mixture obtained from the fibers of the individual bales. From the inputted data, the computer, in accordance with a predetermined computing algorithm, calculates a component distribution which comes close to the estimated component distribution and which satisfies the desired characteristics of the car sliver or yarn characteristics. The computer may also effect a correction of the computed component distribution taking into account boundary conditions with additional inputted information.

  • Patent number: 5271126
Abstract: The detaching roller aggregate comprises two pairs of cylinders each consisting of a detaching roller and a printing cylinder which are pressed against each other by means of a contact pressure device. The contact pressure device is arranged in such a way as to press the two cylinders of the second pair against each other with a larger force than the force pressing the two cylinders of the first pair together. The ratio of the two forces may be approximately 1.2:1 to 2:1. Due to the larger force with which the cylinders of the second pair are pressed against each other, a more even top fleece is produced, in particular during the combing of relatively long fibers and/or at high processing speeds.
