  • Patent number: 7302664
Abstract: A system and method for automatic insertion of on-chip decoupling capacitors are provided. With the system and method, an integrated circuit design is partitioned into cells and the noise distribution per cell of an integrated circuit is determined. This noise distribution may be generated using any of a number of different known mechanisms and generally results in a noise-map being generated for the integrated circuit. Thereafter, a mapping function is applied to the noise map for each cell to determine a required capacitance for the cells of the integrated circuit. From this required capacitance per cell, the necessary decoupling capacitors may be identified as well as the location for insertion of these decoupling capacitors. In a similar manner, decoupling capacitors may be removed from cells of the integrated circuit based upon the determined required capacitance per cell.

  • Patent number: 7302450
Abstract: A workload scheduler supporting an efficient distribution and balancing of the workload is proposed. The scheduler maintains (383-386) a profile for each job; the profile (build using statistics of previous executions of the job) defines an estimated usage of different resources of the system by the job. The scheduler tends to select (318-342) the jobs with complementary resource requirements (according to a combination of their attributes); this process can be carried out using either a heuristic approach (318-334) or an optimization approach (335-342). As a result, the jobs that will be submitted are very likely to consume different resources of the system; in this way, any contention for the different resources is strongly reduced.

  • Patent number: 7299372
Abstract: The present invention provides for controlling the power consumption of an element. A first power control command is issued by software for the element. It is determined if the power control command corresponds to an allowable power control state for that element as defined by the hardware. If the power control command is not an allowable power control state for that element, the hardware sets the power control at a higher level than the power control state issued by the software. The software is real time software, and the software also sets minimally acceptable activity control states. A hierarchy of power consumption is defined for different elements of a chip by software, which provides the minimum level of power consumption by any element or sub-element on a chip.

  • Patent number: 7272699
Abstract: A method, a computer program, and an apparatus are provided for flexible SC to SR mapping to enable sub-page activation in an XDR™ memory system. An XDR™ memory system may allow system page size to reduced by a factor of two (half-page activation) or four (quarter-page activation). In an XDR™ memory system there are five different SCs and two different SRs. This scheme allows any one of the five SCs (or none) to be mapped to any one of the two SRs. Overall, this invention provides a flexible mapping scheme that can be utilized for any possible XDR memory system.

  • Patent number: 7266463
Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a computer program product are provided for identifying signals in analogue electrical systems. The ID select signals that control the timing of this signal identification circuit comprise sequential numbers that count up and identify a corresponding signal. The signals to be identified are located on a group of input/output (I/O) pins. One multiplexer (first) selects a specific I/O pin in response to the ID select signals. An isolated voltage source is connected to this multiplexer and provides the selected signal to another multiplexer (second). The second multiplexer switches from this isolated voltage source to ground potential in response to the ID select signals. The isolated voltage source floats at the DC level of the selected I/O driver pin. Therefore, by connecting to the selected signal's I/O pin and the output of the second multiplexer, the selected signal can be identified and then probed.

  • Patent number: 6828918
Abstract: An impaired person is provided with a personalized accessibility device, which communicates an identification of a disability or impairment to an assistance device, which provides assistance. Also provided is a method and apparatus for providing feedback to a person with impairment. The feedback may be configured based on the type and extent of impairment, as well as personal preferences, such as a preferred language. The assistance device may also request a response from the disabled or impaired person, thus solving the person's Special Needs in a conversational manner without calling attention to the impairment.

  • Patent number: 6826750
Abstract: A method, system and apparatus for loading the correct version of a file in a system in which multiple versions of the same file and multiple versions of a requesting application reside. In a preferred embodiment, a class loader receives a request, from a requesting application, to load a file. The request includes an indication of the current version of the requesting application. The class loader retrieves from a plurality of files, the one version of the requested file that is compatible with the requesting application and then loads that file. Each of the plurality of files includes an indication of plurality of versions for which the particular file is compatible and the version of the requesting application is within the plurality of versions for which the selected file is compatible.

  • Patent number: 6757869
Abstract: A method and apparatus for accessing an application is provided. Data from a host application is transformed from a host format to a markup language format to form markup language data. A stylesheet is applied to the markup language data to generate a markup language document. This markup language document is then presented on a display on which user interaction may occur. In response to receiving input to the markup language document, this input is transformed into the host format and returned to the host application. In this manner, access to a legacy application is provided.
