  • Patent number: 6948586
Abstract: A rappel device is used in rapidly descending from a height using a rope and then quickly disengaging from the rope. The rappel device comprises a body having a rim which defines a rope opening therein. The body is further adapted to be affixed to a harness. A lock extends across the rope opening. The lock frictionally engages a rope extending through the rope opening. A retracting mechanism manually releases the lock from engagement with the rope. The retracting mechanism is biased to a secured position whereby the lock is engaged with the rope. The retracting mechanism, when actuated, manually releases the lock to an open position whereby the rope is quickly released from the lock.

  • Patent number: 6935660
Abstract: A locking system is described for use with a storage container. The locking system is integral with a door of the cargo storing container. The locking system comprises a housing mounted to and extending through a door with two rods extending from the housing. The rods have a locked position extending beyond the periphery of the door and an unlocked position not extending beyond the periphery of the door. Each of the two rods has at least one tapered edge on the inside edge extending beyond the periphery of the door in the locked position. Two rod receivers, each rod receiver corresponding to one of the two rods, are adapted to receive the tapered edges of the two rods in the locked position. The tapered edges engage the two rod receivers thereby acting to seal the door tightly in the locked position. A handle recessed behind the housing rotatably engages a cam plate contained within the housing.

  • Patent number: 6878024
Abstract: A hydrostatic release mechanism is provided which comprises a sealed housing having an interior volume and a tunnel adapted to receive a tether extending therethrough. A depth sensor is mounted to the sealed housing and has a diaphragm covering an opening between the interior volume and the ambient conditions. A trigger is contained within the sealed housing and is operably connected to the diaphragm and a firing mechanism. The firing mechanism is actuated by movement of the trigger in response to inward movement of the diaphragm when the pressure on the diaphragm exceeds a predetermined force. The firing mechanism includes a piston having a blade which moves in response to the expanding gases from a pyrotechnic cartridge and passes through the tunnel thereby severing the tether extending therethrough.

  • Patent number: 6843380
Abstract: A modular storage support device supports items suspended above a floor. The device rests upon the floor and comprises a vertical member extending upwardly which has an upper end and a lower end. A base member has a base vertical portion which receives the lower end of the vertical member and a U-shaped portion which is oriented perpendicular to the vertical member. The U-shaped portion has two leg portions extending laterally with respect to the sides thereof. Two L-shaped support legs are received in one of the leg portions and extend forward therefrom. A foot portion extends downwardly from each of the L-shaped support legs to rest upon a floor. An L-shaped wall brace is received within the upper end of the vertical member and extends upwardly and then rearwardly from vertical member to engage a vertical wall. One or more supports are sildably secured to the vertical member and the upwardly extending section of the L-shaped wall brace.

  • Patent number: 6806446
Abstract: A power management system comprises a microprocessor and a current flow sensor in electrical communication therewith. The current flow sensor measures the amount of electrical current available to the building as well as the actual current flowing through the building. A load sensor is in electrical communication with the microprocessor and measures the load requirements of the appliance. One or more switches are electrical communication with the microprocessor and control the power flowing to the appliance. The microprocessor maintains a record of the information from the load sensor and the current sensor and further has a electrical maximum limit and a continuous load limit for the building. The microprocessor uses the one or more switches to average a continuous load over a preset period of time which is less than the continuous load limit for said building while never exceeding the electrical maximum limit for said building.

  • Patent number: 6692535
Abstract: A method and appartus for measuring volumetric flow through a duct without knowing the viscosity of the fluid is provided. A dual rotor turbine volumetric flow meter is operably connected to a duct having fluid flowing therethrough. The dual rotor turbine has a temperature gauge, a first rotor and a second rotor with at least one of said first rotor and said second rotor having a non-linear response to fluid flow. The dual rotor turbine volumetric flow meter is calibrated by deriving a Roshko/Strouhal number curve therefor. During measurement, a first rotor frequency and a second rotor frequency are determined. The second rotor frequency is divided by the first rotor frequency to derive a frequency ratio which is then used to calculate a combined Roshko number. A combined Strouhal number is derived by using the combined Roshko number in conjunction with the Roshko/Strouhal number curve. The volumetric flow rate is calculated using the combined Strouhal number.
