Abstract: A feedback circuit, comprising: means for producing from a laser light output a feedback signal which is representative of the noise and frequency dependent output intensity of the laser light output; means for applying a phase shift to the feedback signal; means for converting the feedback signal to a level signal which is representative of the noise in the laser light output; amplifying means for amplifying the phase shifted feedback signal as a function of the level signal to produce a current gain signal; and means for superimposing the current gain signal on the current flowing through the laser diode.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for preparation of purified terephthalic acid containing 200 ppmw or less of p-toluic acid. A filter cake of purified terephthalic acid is prepared by filtering, under a differential pressure of about or greater than 0.5 psi over the system pressure and a temperature within the range of from about 100.degree. C. to about 205.degree. C., an aqueous slurry of purified terephthalic acid containing a solution of p-toluic acid. The aqueous solution of p-toluic acid remaining in the filter cake of purified terephthalic acid is displaced from the filter cake by water under a pressure gradient over the system pressure at a temperature within the range of from about 100.degree. C. to about 205.degree. C. Pressure flash evaporation of water remaining in the filter cake occurs upon release of the system pressure to lower pressure with consequent lower temperature. The crystalline terephthalic acid product containing 200 ppmw or less p-toluic acid can be dried under atmospheric pressure.

Abstract: A predistortion circuit for cancelling third-order distortion products produced by a non-linear device includes a signal source which drives a first and second circuit branch each including a plurality of series connected diodes having approximately exponential transfer functions. The output signal taken as the summation of the two signals processed by the branch circuits is coupled through an amplifier to the device to be linearized. In an alternate predistortion configuration, the signal source drives a phase splitting means which produces two signals of equal amplitude but opposite phase, wherein each of the signals drives a respective one of the branch circuits. A phase combining means performs an out of-phase combination of the signals processed by the branch circuits.

The method of the invention is particularly effective in improving the toughness of composites based on thermoset matrix resins, and particularly epoxy resins.
