Abstract: A curve drilling assembly operable with a rotary drill string is provided for drilling a curved subterranean borehole. The assembly includes a curve guide, a rotary drill bit, an imbalance force assembly, and a bearing assembly. The curve guide is connectable with the drill string for deflecting the drill string toward the outside radius of the curved borehole. The imbalance force assembly, which preferably is provided by selectably disposing cutting elements on the drill bit, is rotatable with the drill string for creating a net imbalance force along a net imbalance force vector substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the drill bit during drilling. The bearing assembly is rotatable with the drill string and is located in the curve drilling assembly near the cutting elements of the drill bit for intersecting a force plane formed by the longitudinal bit axis and the net imbalance force vector and for substantially continuously contacting the borehole wall during drilling.

Abstract: A Stage II Vapor Recovery System is provided with a special array of storage tanks, dispensers, fuel pumps, vapor assist pumps, and flow control nozzles, to capture hydrocarbon emissions, prevent condensate from blocking vapor return lines, and dispense gasoline or other liquid fuel and condensate to customer tanks. Specifically, fuel lines connect storage tank to flow control nozzles via dispensers and are assisted by fuel pumps to pump gasoline into customers' tanks. The nozzles have vapor passageways to capture hydrocarbon vapors emitted during fueling. The captured vapors are pumped by vapor assist pumps from the vapor passageways through vapor return lines into the storage tanks. The nozzles are equipped with condensate liquid pickup tubes to remove condensed vapors blocking the vapor return lines. The condensate liquid tubes communicate with condensate venturi ports adjacent venturi sleeves in the nozzles.

Abstract: A chamber in a well is connected to two externally separate tubing strings to unload liquid which is applying backpressure against a formation so that the production of fluid from the formation is obstructed. Volumes of the liquid are intermittently collected in the chamber and lifted out of the well through one of the tubing strings in response to high pressure gas injected solely into the chamber through the other tubing string.

A method for extruding these articles is taught.
Abstract: Improved mixing performance with reduced power input is obtained in an agitated oxidation reactor for converting an aromatic alkyl to the corresponding aromatic carboxylic acid by decreasing the clearance between the lowermost impeller element and the reactor bottom and by providing a flat blade turbine as the upper impeller element.
Abstract: A process for converting synthesis gas to paraffin wax by conversion over a partially sulfided rhenium-aluminum borate catalyst containing an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compound is disclosed. The inventive process and catalyst provide highly efficient and selective conversion of synthesis gas to paraffin wax.
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus and process for feeding powder or dry solids catalyst into a flowing liquid stream. More particularly, the invention includes an apparatus which includes a novel purging device and means for isolating a metering means from a liquid stream, and process for injecting finely divided flowable powder or catalyst into a flowing liquid stream, which in turn is fed into a reactor utilized for the production of polypropylene or polyolefins.

Abstract: A process is provided for transaralkylating a class of starting compounds comprised of aryl-substituted lower alkanes and aryl-substituted fused alkylene ring compounds to produce derivatives of such compounds wherein benzyl substituents thereof have different alkyl substituents compared to the starting compounds. The process is carried out by admixing such a starting compound with a lower alkyl-substituted aromatic compound under liquid phase conditions in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The process makes possible new and economical routes for synthesizing desired lower alkyl-substituted benzyl group containing compounds, such as 2,2-di(lower alkyl-substituted) phenyl propanes and 1,3,3-trimethyl-1-(lower alkyl-substituted)-phenyl indans. Thus, there is provided a three-step process for making dixylylpropane from alpha methyl styrene and also a two-step process for making 1,3,3,6-tetramethyl-1-o-xylyl indan from alpha-4-dimethyl styrene.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for obtaining spectral information and quantifying the physical properties of a sample. The apparatus comprises a light source and a high-efficiency fiber optic switch means communicating with the light source for directing the light alternatively along at least two channels, the two channels comprising at least one reference channel and at least one sample channel. A sample means communicates with the sample channel for providing an interface between the light and the sample. A fiber optic means comprising a high-efficiency fiber optic switch and/or an optical coupler communicates with the sample channels and the reference channels and directs the light alternatively from the reference and sample channels to a mode scrambler. A wavelength discrimination device separates the light from the mode scrambler into component wavelengths and provides spectral information for the determination of the physical properties of the sample.

Abstract: This invention provides molding compositions which comprise reinforced filled wholly aromatic polyesters and which can be molded into useful articles having low warpage values and good tensile strengths.
Abstract: Blends comprising a polyether sulfone and an imide-containing copolymer of sulfonyl bis(phthalic anhydride), 1,4-bis(p-aminocumyl) benzene and at least one of a selected group of diamine comonomers. The blends display a unique combination of excellent mechanical and thermal properties as well as good solubility and easy melt-fabricability; in addition, the resin components are compatible, and many compositions are unexpectedly miscible.
Abstract: A group of polyimides and copolyimides made from 6FDA, IPAN, or their acid or ester forms, and selected aromatic diamines are disclosed which are useful for substrate coatings and interlevel dielectrics in on-chip and multi-chip package applications. In such applications these polymers exhibit lower dielectric constant, lower moisture uptake and reduced dielectric constant variation with temperature and humidity than existing polymers, yet they are both thermally stable at required processing temperatures and can form suitably adherent, pinhole-free coatings on electronic component substrates.

Abstract: This invention pertains to novel copolyesters consisting essentially of units (I), (II), (III), and (IV). ##STR1##and blends of these polymers and articles made from both. Units (I), (II), (III), and (IV) are present in specified proportions as defined in the "Description of the Invention."The instant copolyesters display orientation in the molten state, good fiber ratings and high strength. Advantageously, the polymers of the present invention display a significant improvement in viscosity and moldability of the neat polymer. The polymers have excellent mechanical and surface properties including blister resistance, strength, toughness, and ability to vapor phase solder, and form strong fibers while still maintaining a high heat distortion temperature. They have melting points in the range of from about 250.degree. to about 360.degree. C. and are melt-processible. Advantageously, these compositions filled with about 30 weight percent of glass fibers display heat distortion temperatures of up to 240.degree.

Abstract: In the process, fuel is pumped from a storage tank through a dispenser and nozzle into a customer's tank. Hydrocarbon vapors emitted during fueling are collected through a vapor recovery passageway between the inner and outer spouts of the nozzle and conveyed by a vapor pump through vapor return lines into the storage tank. A portion of the vapors in the vapor return lines condense and are removed with the nozzle's condensate pickup tube. The removed condensate is dispensed into the customer's tank.
