  • Patent number: 4993004
Abstract: A wearable device for automatically counting and timing the repetitions or laps during an athletic activity. The device preferably is worn either on the palm of the hand or the ball of the foot and comprises a raised, pressure-sensitive area which is depressed automatically through contact with a solid surface as part of the user's natural action in completing a lap or repetition. The device preferably also comprises a watertight case enclosing a microprocessor circuit which records and calculates various information for the user and displays this information on a liquid crystal display. Selecting means are provided on the case for selecting the information appearing on the display such as laps completed, total distance traveled, time to complete each lap, average lap time, average speed, total elapsed time, real time, and best lap time. An adjustable strap holds the device to the user's body.

  • Patent number: 4903472
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for start spinning or piecing at least two yarns of fibers, which process includes forming strands for start-spinning or piecing by introducing a continuous filament into each roving, false twisting the strands, assembling the strands at a given point of convergence, cutting each filament upstream of its introducing point, removing the filament from the strands and twisting the strands without the filament to a twisted yarn. This process serves to overcome the problem of breaking at the start of the spinning. Also by the present invention, the problem of breaking while twisting the assembled intermediate yarns to a twisted yarn is avoided by introducing a false twisting of the assembled intermediate yarns, supplementing to the false twisting of the intermediate yarns, before the last twisting.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method of manufacturing a single-block fuel injection rail. The rail according to the inventive process comprises at least one rectilinear hollow tube, to which are joined at least one fuel intake tip, at least one injection intake and rail fastening means. The method comprises striking, in the hot state, a metal billet placed in a die, imparting thereto a longitudinal solid primary shape having transverse branching, whose axes are perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the primary form, and cooling and machining the primary form so as to give the rail its final shape. The rail is formed from an aluminum alloy and the billet is struck at a temperature between about 430.degree. and 460.degree. C. The process may be used in the manufacture of fuel injection rails for the automobile industry.

  • Patent number: 4898100
Abstract: An aerial transport installation having two parallel continuously moving suspension traction cables defining two endless loops have at least one cable car equipped with ward rippers for clamping the cables on the top part of the cables. The cables define a line of circulation for the cars including a track of arrival and a track of departure at each station, with the tracks defining horizontal planes. The end pulleys at each station include at least one return pulley for separating the cable loops so that the cable car can be totally disengaged and disassociated from the cable. The pulleys are arranged such that a longitudinal free space is provided between the loops of the cable at each station to facilitate the removal of the cable car from the cables.

  • Patent number: 4843568
Abstract: Apparatus and method for using an image of the human body to control real time computer events wherein data regarding a participant are acquired through any means of imaging without marking the participant or requiring that he or she use or wear a stimulus source, sensing device or special clothing. Perception and feature analysis are carried out by specialized circuitry and computer software, and response to perception is expressed using any device controllable by a computer. Participants generally are unaware of processing delays between action and reaction, and their perception of an event is similar to dealing with a human being or animate creature. Perception and response occur in real time with action and reaction closely coupled.

  • Patent number: 4754428
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for the electronic delivery of a document, originated at a local site by a source which has a printer output that normally is connected to a printer, to one or more remote locations having printers or display devices which may differ from the printer normally connected to the printer output of the document generating source. Printer command signals which normally are provided at the printer output are converted to character and position data which represent the respective characters and their horizontal and vertical positions on each page of the document. The character and position data are transmitted to a remote location, either directly or via a distribution unit which transmits a document to one or more remote locations, whereat the data is reconverted to a form for driving a printer or other display device, resulting in a line-for-line conforming copy of the original.
