  • Patent number: 5145367
Abstract: A vacuum instrument for dental hygiene and dental treatment which is intended to permit parodontological treatment of the tooth pockets. The instrument has an elastic suction cap which can produce a sealed vacuum over the gum pockets and interdental crevices. A treatment liquid is supplied to the suction cap and removed by the suction. Intermittent application of the vacuum produces a pumping action, which through likewise intermittent rinsing results in optimal cleaning of the interdental crevices as far as the base of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5142134
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for a sanitary fitting controlled in a non-contacting manner comprises a transmitter (3) as well as a receiver (4), at which radiation emitted by the transmitter (3) arrives after reflection on an object (7). In an initialization process, which takes place for the first time after the initial installation, thereafter at greater regular time intervals, the capacity of the transmitter (3) is increased until the reflection on a stationary object (7) in the monitoring range has the result that the evaluation circuit (5) following the receiver (4) is activated. Now the capacity of the transmitter (3) is once more reduced somewhat; the circuit arrangement changes to normal operation. It now has its optimum sensitivity, at which stationary objects (7) no longer cause faulty actuations, but the greatest possible monitoring range is provided for movable objects to be monitored.

  • Patent number: 5126579
Abstract: An optical thickness measuring instrument for transparent work-piece, in particular glass plates and transparent films, consists of a scanning head (10) with a servo-controlled measuring lens (24), a mirror (12) arranged perpendicularly to the axis of the latter and means (66 to 72) for positioning the work-piece (64) in parallel above the mirror (12). The servo control adjusts the measuring lens (24) so that a measuring light source (34) is focussed on the surface of the mirror. For this purpose, the measuring lens (24) must be adjusted by the associated servo drive (18, 20) depending on the thickness of the work-piece (64). The electrically measured (40) adjustment displacement of the measuring lens (24) is a measurement of the thickness of the work-piece (64). (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5110386
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a method wherein a concavoconvex cutting line is applied repetitively in a periodical way in the longitudinal direction of a continuous first web to form first and second partial webs; said first partial web is offset with respect to said second partial web in the longitudinal direction by a prescribed interval so that the concave edges and the convex edges of the first and second partial webs are positioned opposite to and aligned with each other, whereafter a continuous second web is used to connect the outside edges opposite to the said aligned concave and convex edge portions of the first and second partial webs, and as the second web is bonded with the outside edges of the partial webs a composite web is formed, following which the first and second partial webs of the composite web are spread apart.

  • Patent number: 5097119
Abstract: A regulating circuit for the servo drive for the mobile precision optics of an equipment for high-precision measuring of micro-contours of a work-piece surface contains a position transmitter (40) which ascertains the actual position of the precision optics to correct disturbances caused by vibration and shaking. This is part of an internal loop comprising a proportional-derivative controller (68) and an integral controller (70). An external loop which predetermines the reference input for the internal loop formed by these elements contains an integral controller (74) which receives a signal from a detector (82) which corresponds to the spacing of the just measured point on the test surface from the focal point of the precision optics. The local reflection behaviour of the test surface is measured (84) and used for correcting the gradient of the control characteristics (86).

  • Patent number: 5094038
Abstract: A support device for facilitating the sharpening of a knife blade or the like is provided. The device is a solid block of rigid material having a flat lower surface to rest on a stable surface and an upper surface parallel to the lower surface. The upper surface has an elongated arcuate channel therein which extends the length of the block. Two spaced apart lips extend horizontally along the upper edges of the channel and extend slightly inwardly of the upper edges of the channel towards each other. A knife having a width greater than the width of the channel is inserted into the channel with its cutting edge extending out of the channel for sharpening, its non-cutting edge abutting against one of the lips, and the side if the knife abutting against the other lip. Thus the knife is held at the proper angle for sharpening with a stone.
