Abstract: An integrated optical, polarization-manipulating device, comprises a first waveguiding section (A) with a first guide (21), a second waveguiding section (E) with a second and a third optically decoupled and physically separated guide (28, 29) and an intermediary waveguiding section (C) for an adiabatic coupling between the first and the second sections (A, E). The intermediary section (C) comprises a polarization-sensitive asymmetric Y-branching device, provided with two mutually diverging intermediary guides (25, 27) coupled to the guides (28, 29) of the second section. At least one of the two intermediary guides (25) has a channel structure fragmented in the longitudinal direction. Coupling sections (B, D) for adiabatic couplings between guides of successive sections are provided, on the respective coupling sides, with the fragmented waveguide of a corresponding fragmented structure.
Abstract: A music apparatus determines a scale suitable for a given melody. The apparatus includes a motion analyzer which analyzes motion in the melody. In an embodiment, a note coupling evaluator evaluates a coupling coefficient of each note in the melody based on a pitch interval pattern of surrounding notes. Using the evaluated results, a tonic and type of a scale for the melody is determined.
Abstract: A container device comprises a blood-collecting bag, a platelet conserving bag, and a plasma bag. These bags are connected each other by tubes. Anticoagulant agent is contained in the blood-collecting bag, and the other bags are empty. The blood-collecting bag is formed of flexible polyvinylchloride. The blood-collecting bag is autoclaved after containing anticoagulant. The other bags are formed of polyolefin such as EVA, and radiation- or gas-sterilized in an empty state.
Abstract: A tray for semiconductor devices is used by piling up another tray or other trays on this tray. Rectangular pockets are formed on the upper surface of the trays and each of the pockets houses a semiconductor device. A base projects upward from each pocket to support each semiconductor device. The base has a similar shape to and is larger than the undersurface of the semiconductor device. Parallel guide ribs are formed on the undersurface of each tray and each is provided with an tapered inner face inclined downward outward of the base. The roots of the adjacent guide ribs define a portion of the undersurface of the trays which has a similar shape to and is smaller than the upper surface of the semiconductor device. The guide ribs are arranged to provide a horizontal play between the outer edge portions on the upper surface of the semiconductor device and the tapered inner face. An upwardly projecting holding mechanism extends along the outer edge portions.
Abstract: The invention relates to a voltage limiter for a transistor circuit with semiconductors (T.sub.20 and T.sub.21) in the arrangement of a plurality of successive amplifier stages, with a reference element (Zener diode Z.sub.20) and with at least one voltage divider arrangement (voltage divider R.sub.21 /R.sub.22). In accordance with the invention, the reference element (Zener diode Z.sub.20) is disposed downstream of the triggering circuit of the first stage or even closer at the output of the voltage limiter circuit for reducing the oscillation tendency.

Abstract: An electronic device including a switch member which has a multiplicity of switch contacts provided thereon, a film liquid crystal display unit disposed above the switch member and having openings provided at positions opposite to the respective switch contacts, and operation members disposed in the corresponding openings so as to depress the operation members from above the film liquid crystal display. By the depression of the respective operation members, the corresponding switch contacts are switched. According to this structure, the switching operations are performed on the film liquid crystal display unit, so that the operability of the switches is improved and the device itself is miniaturized.
Abstract: The sample separator including a first suction nozzle, serving also as an electrode, for extracting one of first and second components each having an impedance different from each other, a second suction nozzle, serving also as an electrode, for extracting the other component, a nozzle driving member for ascending/descending the nozzles as one unit, and an interface detecting member for detecting an interface between two components. The interface detecting member further including an impedance detector for detecting an impedance between the two nozzles serving also as the electrodes, a storing section for storing a first threshold value to detect the first component, and an operation control member for comparing the first threshold value stored in the storing member with a detected value obtained by the impedance detector, and for controlling the nozzle driving member based on a result of the comparison.

Abstract: A solid-state imaging device electronically images at least a portion of an image of a subject formed on a film exposure surface through a potographic optical lens. This imaging device is driven at a high speed by an imaging device driver to repeatedly perform electronic imaging of the subject image. A frame memory stores a subject image signal initially imaged by the imaging device. A two-dimensional correlating circuit executes a two-dimensional correlation arithmetic operation between the subject image signal stored in the frame memory and subject image signals sequentially imaged during a film exposure period for the subject image, thereby calculating drift between the subject images formed on the film exposure surface in the x and y directions perpendicular to an optical axis of the lens. An actuator driver drives an actuator in accordance with the detected drift in the x and y directions to move lens in the x and y directions, thereby correcting the drifts.

Abstract: A communication procedure suitable for a cordless telephone system involves time division duplex radio communication between a handset 11 and a base station 3 using alternating bursts of transmission over a single radio channel. Once a radio link has been set up, initial transmissions carry a synchronisation logical channel S and a signalling logical channel D multiplexed together, but the link may switch to bursts carrying a communications logical channel B for the speech data and the signalling logical channel D. Burst synchronisation is achieved by the asynchronous detection of words in a synchronisation channel S. These words have bit patterns reducing the probability of incorrect asynchronous detection of them. If one part ceases to receive handset signals from the other, it transmits a special signal, informing the other part. This enables both parts to detect the failure of a link at substantially the same time, so that their actions to re-establish the link are synchronised.

Abstract: An invertor-controlled power unit includes an invertor circuit which performs switching control of direct current output from a direct current power source circuit in response to a driving signal. A bridge balanced circuit is connected to a pair of output lines extending from an output circuit of the power unit. The bridge balanced circuit has at least two balanced points and comprises a plurality of impedance elements connected to the pair of output lines. One of the balanced points is grounded. A potential difference between the one of the balanced points and another of same is detected, and a detection signal indicative of the potential difference is produced. When the detection signal falls outside a predetermined range, i.e. it is determined that a leak occurs, a stoppage instruction signal is produced to stop the supply of the driving signal to the invertor circuit.
Abstract: Dielectric strips made of a dielectric material are placed between a pair of conductor plates located a specified distance apart. Cutouts are formed in the dielectric strips. The cutouts, a part of each dielectric strip is formed into an electrically asymmetric portion. When high-frequency power is supplied to the dielectric strips, the power is transmitted through an NRD waveguide composed of the dielectric strips and the pair of conductor plates, with the result that electromagnetic wave is radiated from the cutouts into the space between the conductor plates. This electromagnetic wave excites the radiation elements formed in the conductor plates, which then radiate electromagnetic waves.
Abstract: A data packet transmission system having a succession of stations each connected to two buses transmitting in opposite directions, both packets and time-slot requests has its capacity improved by means of a request-erase counter at each station for each bus, making possible more efficient use of time slots. Except for the different combinations of status and expectable occurrence, the queuing protocol known as DQDB, optionally is modified by D.sup.3 Q protocol, is used. For those ten situations where time-slot-request bit resetting (erasing) comes into play, status is defined by the state of certain counters while expectable occurrences are arrivals at a station's access unit of a time-slot that is empty or contains a data packet or a request bit and also the use, if any, made of the arriving time slot by the access unit of the station. The actions produced in those ten instances are in terms of setting or resetting a request bit and advancing, reducing or resetting contents of one or more counters.
Abstract: A wall construction for display booths, sales booths and the like has two profiled braces extending parallel and at a distance from each other and have grooves which are engaged from behind in their narrow long sides. At least two support members have been hooked into the lower profiled brace on which a wall panel rests in an upright position. Tilting of the wall panel is prevented by means of an upper retaining member. The support member as well as the retaining member have a U-shaped cross-sectional form, respectively formed by a back part and two legs extending from the back part. One of the legs is inserted into the groove which is engaged from behind of the respective profiled brace, while the other leg engages a groove in the wall panel.
Abstract: To reduce the noise level of operation of a high-pressure metal halide diarge lamp, the lamp has a rotation-symmetrical discharge vessel (2) which has an inner surface which has a central region which is circular cylindrical and two facing transition regions (12, 13) which are straight-sided right-circular-conical and connect the central circular cylindrical region to extending shaft portions (3, 4) into which the electrodes and connecting foils are sealed. A lamp of this type, when operated from a square-wave power supply has a reduced noise level, particularly in the audio frequency range of between 6 to 20 kHz. A suitable angle between the circular cylindrical portion and the right-conical portion is between 120.degree. and 160.degree., for example about 145.degree..

Abstract: An optical waveguide component which has end faces to be connected with optical fiber connectors by means of guide pins, comprises an optical waveguide component body having an optical waveguide core portion, and a resin mold cladding portion covering all the faces of the optical waveguide component body except for the end faces of the optical waveguide component body. Each end face of the resin mold portion has guide pin holes which were formed with the optical waveguide core portion being used as a positioning reference. Since the guide pin holes for connection with the optical fiber connectors are formed in the resin mold portion which, preferably has some elasticity and which covers the optical waveguide component body, the guide pin holes and a substrate are not broken even if subjected to a load after connection.
