  • Patent number: 5778875
Abstract: A regulator for a self-contained breathing apparatus having a regulator body connected to a source of high pressure gas. An in-line valve within the regulator body is in communication with the source of high pressure gas. A primary burst disc is disposed within the in-line valve which is adapted to block the passage of gas from the source of pressurized gas when the gas is pressurized below a given pressure and to give way when the gas is pressurized above a given pressure when the in-line valve is closed. A first stage regulator is disposed within the regulator body for receipt of pressurized gas when the in-line valve is open. A demand regulator can be connected to the regulator body for receipt of regulated breathing gas from the first stage regulator. A conduit within the regulator body extends from the high pressure chamber to ambient and a burst disc is disposed within the conduit which will burst above a given gas pressure.

  • Patent number: 5762869
Abstract: A blood oxygenator having a housing with an outer walled portion and a top portion and bottom portion. Blood is introduced through the bottom portion of the housing to be oxygenated by a fiber bundle having blood and oxygen flow. A blood outlet manifold in the upper portion of the housing is connected to a blood outlet on one end having a conical passage. The blood outlet manifold includes a reservoir with an increasing volume toward the conical passage and is sloped upwardly to enhance gaseous microemboli disentrainment. The wall of the housing decreases in dimension upwardly toward the blood outlet manifold, while the introduction of blood to the fibers is in a lesser ratio to the area adjacent the outlet manifold.

  • Patent number: 5720561
Abstract: A line printer having a hammerbank with hammers that are held by a permanent magnet and released by electrically driven coils. The temperature of the coils is determined by the relative resistance of the coils to provide an output equivalent to the temperature of said coils. The resistance is determined as a function of the current through the coils or voltage of the coils which is converted from an analog to a digital value. The attendant method of determining temperature of the coils in the hammerbank is by comparing a pre-established current or voltage value based upon a pre-established temperature of the coil with the current passing through the coil during operation of the hammerbank. The comparison of the current passing through the coil during operation with the pre-established current is provided to a controller for controlling the printer in response to the current differential between the currents which is in turn a function of the operating temperature.

  • Patent number: 5701893
Abstract: A face mask for filtering airborne particles formed by an upper portion adapted for placement over a user's nasal area and a lower portion adapted for placement over a user's oral area. Ribs are formed ultrasonically extending along the length of the upper portion, and a pair of ears are formed at either end having openings therethrough to receive a plastic strap for passing through the openings of the ears to secure the mask to a user's face. The mask is formed by layers of plastic material including scrim and filtration material forming the upper and lower portions that have been ultrasonically bonded together. A process for making the mask includes providing plastic fabric layered materials that are ultrasonically welded with a plurality of ribs and slitting and sealing them to form two portions. The two portions are fed in overlying sandwiched relationship to each other and scored for the ears while at the same time welding them together to form an upper and lower portion of the mask.

  • Patent number: 5666880
Abstract: A dot matrix printer having a plurality of hammers on a hammerbank with a counterbalance for the hammerbank in adjacent parallel relationship to the hammerbank. The hammerbank and counterbalance are driven by a first crank arm connected to the hammerbank and a second crank arm connected to the counterbalance with looped circular portions having bearing surfaces for moving the crank arms in opposite relationship to each other. A single shaft with two eccentrics, each respectively in the bearing surfaces turns the two crank arms. The crank arms are in close parallel relationship to each other and close proximity to the hammerbank and counterbalance. The single shaft is connected to a motor for driving the hammerbank and counterbalance, and is formed with a stator having coils with a magnetic ring formed as a rotor portion surrounding the stator, and a flywheel surrounding and connected to the magnetic rotor ring.
