Abstract: A demountable partitioning system for offices and the like includes an elongated floor channel member provided with teeth which engage the carpeting to ensure stability, with a series of snap-in supporting members which define a floor level raceway for service utilities and also support wallboard panels in horizontally spaced relationship above the raceway, whereby partitions can be dismantled and rearranged without damaging the existing building.
Abstract: An electrical switch of the liquid contact type having a housing divided into three compartments: (1) a power compartment having electrodes, (2) a control compartment containing a resistor and (3) an intermediate compartment communicating with the power compartment through a lower channel and communicating with the control compartment through an upper channel containing a wick. The wick prevents liquid flow but permits gaseous flow.A body of electrically conductive liquid is normally contained in the intermediate compartment so that when the resistor is heated, the gas in the control compartment is expanded and passes into the intermediate compartment thereby forcing the conductive liquid into the power compartment to establish a circuit between the two electrodes.
Abstract: In microbiological analysis wherein microorganisms are grown on an elongated substrate, a method which makes it possible to simultaneously study the effect of a number of different nutrition components on the growth of the organisms consists of dividing the elongated substrate into independent segments by inserting a series of transverse barriers therein to isolate each segment and to provide each segment with a reagent.
Abstract: Electronic door announcer for apartments of a multi-family dwelling having a community television antenna in which the signals due to sound and video operation of the announcer are carried by at least part of the community antenna coaxial cable system, switching means for the individual apartments being connected into said coaxial cable system.
Abstract: A carriage for carrying a baby or child is disclosed wherein a wheeled chassis has attached to it a body for carrying the child, the body being adjustable to facilitate various sizes of children. The body is adjustably attached to the chassis to readily move from a sitting to a horizontal position. The body also adjusts so as to accept a mattress for an infant and to form a seat for an older child.
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting a circular cake into a number of equal, segmental pieces consists of a series of superposed horizontal band cutters arranged to intersect a central axis at equal horizontal angles, the cutters being arranged over a vertically movable, cake-supporting table, which is provided with grooves, which are in alignment with the cutters so that when the table is raised, the cutters subdivide the cake into equal pieces and then sink down into the grooves in the table to permit the cake to be removed from the table by a scoop or the like.
Abstract: A collapsible seat for skiers comprises a narrow, elongated web provided with a centrally facing pocket at each end so that the handle portions of a pair of ski poles can be inserted into the respective pockets to suspend the central portion of the web for supporting a person in a seated position. At one or both ends of the web, a second centrally facing pocket can also be provided spaced from the endmost pocket to provide an adjustment of the height at which the seat will be suspended from the poles. A belt, or tape, can be inserted lengthwise through the center of the elongated web in an elongated direction to convert the article into a pouch which can be suspended from the waist by means of the belt or tape.
Abstract: A wire helix having adjacent turns normally spaced so that the wall of a flexible tubing will be pinched closed when placed between them has at least one pair of turns spaced far enough apart to allow the tubing to pass between them without being pinched; valving action takes place when the tubing is twisted around the helix to move it between the unobstructed position to the pinched position. In a modified form, there are two locations in the helix where the tubing may pass outwardly and then reenter the helix without being obstructed; in this form, the looped portion of the tubing lying outside the helix may be rotated about the helix in either direction to pinch it closed.
Abstract: Method of making an anisotropic permanent magnetic body which has a (B.H).sub.max of at least 1.4 .times. 10.sup.6 Gauss . Oersted and a remanence of at least 2500 Gauss, utilizes magnetic powder particles having a coercivity .sub.J H.sub.C at least equal to the actual remanence B.sub.r of the finally prepared magnetic body, a remanence 4.pi.J.sub.r equal to about 1.3 to 1.6 of the actual remanence B.sub.r of the finally produced magnetic body and a fullness factor ##EQU1## which is at least 0.6.
Abstract: An ornamental trophy consists of a base upon which are mounted a three dimensional trophy and one or more receptacles for displaying a memento of the trophy such as a certificate, or a photograph; a light source, such as an ornamental lamp, is also supported by the base in a position so as to illuminate the trophy and certificates, and the base may include a sliding drawer for mementos relating to the trophy.
Abstract: A highway traffic lane barrier is composed of precast, reinforced concrete barricades which are joined together in alignment with each other by a horizontally and vertically tapered, vertical tongue-and-groove arrangement which is integrally molded on the ends of each barricade, with the wider portion of the taper at the bottom to facilitate the removal of one piece of barrier within an installation.
Abstract: An elongated generally U-shaped ferromagnetic yoke has a series of coils embedded in its leg portions at spaced positions along its length so that a magnet body can be moved along the length of the air gap of the yoke so that that it can be magnetized and measured for a magnetic characteristic. A conveyor and a sorting device are also included so that magnet bodies exceeding minimum standards can be selected automatically. Other functions, such as partial demagnetization, and complete demagnetization, can be accomplished by other coils, or permanent magnets, embedded in the yoke.

Abstract: A display device for supporting spectacles comprises a core member which is arranged to be straddled by a frame of the spectacles to be displayed and the width of which equals or slightly exceeds the center-to-center distance between hinges of the frame, and forcing means situated behind the core member for forcing ends of side-pieces of the spectacles towards one another beyond a point whereat the side-pieces are to be supported on the core member.
Abstract: A calorimetric probe for measuring heat produced in a fluid consists of a tube through which the measured fluid flows and having two thermoelements at intervals spaced along the tube, each being connected between the tube and a surrounding element having good heat transmitting qualities, the surrounding element itself being separated from the first tube by a column of air so that a comparison of the readings of the two thermoelements provides a measure of heat developed in the liquid while passing between the two thermoelements.
Abstract: An exhaust apparatus for internal combustion engines comprises an outer pipe having an enlarged intermediate portion and at least one end portion having nearly the same diameter as the exhaust pipe from the engine for connection thereto, an inner pipe of approximately the same diameter as the exhaust pipe, a plurality of helical passages provided between the inner and outer pipes and sets of fins arranged inside the inner pipe at each end to impart vortical flow of gases passing through the inner pipe and to accelerate the gases through the helical passages and absorb them from the engine, the end portion of the outer pipe being connected with the exhaust pipe by means of an encircling clamping ring.
Abstract: A fluid-tight coupling for the end to end connection of metal tubes consists essentially of a conical male element and a conical female element fixed to the end of a respective tube, at least one of said elements being constituted by a permanent magnet.
Abstract: Apparatus for simultaneously adding liquid to a test tube and agitating the resulting contents consists of a mounting for a pipette to discharge liquid into the test tube, with a vibratory agitator also supported by the mounting, and having its lower end extending into the test tube below the level of the pipette.
Abstract: To facilitate adjusting the length of a heavy cargo hold-down chain on a transport vehicle and for positively and safely locking the chain after adjustment, a pair of identical slotted plates are employed in reverse overlapping relationship and are detachably secured by releasable fastener means with chain links captured in their slots. The cooperating plate elements are formed to transmit chain tension on a straight linear axis with the releasable fastener means subjected to shearing stresses rather than to bending stresses.
