  • Patent number: 5419437
Abstract: Snap and fill plastic film bags and a process of opening and placing product in the plastic film bags. A reclosable zipper is provided at the opening of the bag leading to the bag cavity. A lip extends from the front wall above the reclosable zipper and a header portion extends from the back wall above the reclosable zipper. A part of the header portion is supported on a support structure for carrying the bag and a perforation is provided on the header portion above the reclosable zipper. The bags are initially closed and, during the process of opening and placing product therein, the operator grips the bag front wall lip and by pulling the lip away from the support structure, the complementary zipper profiles are separated and, thus, opening the bag. Further pulling of the lip from the support structure causes the severing of the bag from the header portion at the perforation.

  • Patent number: 5400720
Abstract: A lift and tilt table including an upper platform which is raised and lowered over a lower platform. A table is provided over the upper platform and at one end thereof is adapted for only horizontal movement over the platform. A pair of arms and a pair of selectively actuated hydraulic cylinders are pivotally connected between the upper platform and the table. Actuation of the hydraulic cylinders causes the table free end to be lifted above the platform while the table is caused to simultaneously move in a horizontal direction for retaining the center of gravity of the table generally over the same area on the platform. An apron is provided on the table for preventing articles placed on the table from sliding off therefrom and the apron moves horizontally with the table so as not to extend over the edge of the platform.

  • Patent number: 5384444
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring electrical current to or from a moving electrically conductive wire includes a rod-shaped electrically conductive member at an angle with a normal straight line of wire travel. The conductive member is received within a bore of a support body. A sleeve is located within the support body bore and between the rod-shaped conductive member and the bore wall. The sleeve includes a channel which is coplanar with the normal straight line of wire travel and communicating with the conductive member outer surface. The channel forms a wire passageway. The moving wire travels through the wire passageway and in contact with the conductive member circular outer surface. The conductive member is rotated about its longitudinal axis for exposing multiple surfaces to the wire and the sleeve is fixed to the support body to prevent movement thereof during such rotation of the conductive member. The sleeve can be made of a non-conductive material.

  • Patent number: 5380973
Abstract: An improved apparatus for placing current on a moving wire electrode traveling between two points and over a conductive member in the form of a rod. The rod is at an acute angle with respect to the normal straight line of wire travel and its circular outer surface is in contact with the moving wire. The improved apparatus provides a mechanism whereby the conductive member is turned about its longitudinal axis thereby exposing a plurality of different contact surfaces to the wire. An index mechanism is provided for stopping the conductive member at a plurality of positions. An indicator mechanism is also provided for indicating to an operator which contact surface is currently being used. The conductive member is loaded onto the support body from the working end.

  • Patent number: 5379655
Abstract: An obstruction sensing guard for use on a vertically-moving lift table for sensing an obstruction and stopping movement of the lift table in response thereto. The guard includes a sensor bar extending vertically below and generally along the table outer perimeter. The sensor bar is hung below the table via flexible connections that allow both horizontal and vertical movement of the sensor bar with respect to the table. The sensor bar is easily assembled with connecting boots at each corner and elongate beams extending therebetween and connected to the boots. Electric contact switches are provided on the sensor bar and are actuated when the sensor bar is moved. The contact switches are retained on the sensor bar with a switch clip that frictionally engages the sensor bar.

  • Patent number: 5377570
Abstract: An apparatus and method for perforating a plastic film fleader section connecting together a plurality of plastic film bags and forming a pack of saddle bags. The saddle bags are carried on a block with the header on the block and the bags draped thereover. The block is in sliding engagement with a track and is selectively moved in position in the apparatus. A pair of pivotally connected arms are selectively pivotally moved in contact with the plastic film bags pulling the bags generally away from the header and causing the header to become taut. A pair of perforation blades are forced toward the carrying block and through the header simultaneously creating two perforation lines, one line on each side of the header.

  • Patent number: 5370039
Abstract: A short travel pneumatic cylinder device for transmitting a high force, comprising a cylinder housing having a cylindrical bore for guiding of the piston and of the piston rod, two pistons which upon generation of an overatmospheric pressure between the pistons will move in opposite direction, and further comprising a mechanical lever system with a housing cover. The first of the pistons is connected with the piston rod, and the second of the two pistons is arranged coaxially relative to the first piston, is hollow, and is movable coaxially relative to the piston rod. The first of the two pistons is connected to the lever system at the side of the interior of the cylinder opposite to the second of the two pistons. The pressure force exerted by the second piston is transmitted to the piston rod via the lever system in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the second piston.

  • Patent number: 5342175
Abstract: A grill for appliances such as, for example, portable electric fans, heaters, humidifiers, radios, etc. The grill may be used to prevent individuals from touching the appliance's internal components while, nevertheless, allowing movement of air and sound therethrough and/or merely for decorative purposes. The grill is made up of a plurality of elongate ribs spaced apart from each other and which define a plurality of slots therebetween. Each rib is shaped having a central peak extending upwardly from side portions located on the right and left sides of the central peak. The central peak and the side portions are connected together via a curvilinear region and, thus, each of the ribs generally have a bell-shape. The ribs each have an outer surface that is coplanar with the fan/heater unit front surface and, thus, define a flat plane outer surface. The flat plane outer surface, in perspective, appears to have depth beyond the flat plane surface.

  • Patent number: 5319175
Abstract: An apparatus for placing current on a moving wire electrode traveling between two points. An electrically conductive member having a circular outer surface and a longitudinal axis is provided at an angle from a straight line between the two points and with its circular outer surface in contact with the moving wire. The moving wire contacts the circular outer surface along a curvilinear path. The conductive member is received within a bore of a holder body. The holder body also includes a wire hole which intersects the bore and communicates therewith through an elongate passage. The moving wire electrode is received through the wire hole and slides over the conductive member surface visible from the wire hole. The contact surface is curvilinear shaped. The conductive member may be turned about its longitudinal axis to expose unworn contact surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5303968
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting a cylindrical barrel includes a first arm having a lifting frame at one end and a chime gripping arch at the other end. A second arm is pivotally connected at one end thereof to the lifting frame and includes a second chime gripping arch at its other end. During operation, the chime gripping arches are placed on the barrel outer surface just under the barrel chime and by lifting the lifting frame, the two chime gripping arches are forced toward one another and against the barrel surface just under the chime. A locking arm is pivotally connected to the first arm and is selectively pivotable for engaging the second arm and creating a locking triangle. The locking arm effectively, selectively locks the first and second arms with respect to each other preventing radial movement thereof and preventing movement of the chime gripping arches away from the barrel.
