Abstract: Horizontal partitioning can handle a transaction by accessing a single node only if the transaction is restricted along the single partitioned dimension. Composite partitioning allows for partitioning along more than one dimension, but can only handle a transaction by accessing a single node if the transaction is limited along all partitioned dimensions. A partitioning method partitions a tuple space along more than one dimension and, by storing tuples redundantly, allows transactions restricted along one or more of the partitioned dimensions to be handled by accessing a single node. Other embodiments include a computer program product and a system for partitioning a tuple space.

Abstract: A system for controlling access to a protected network includes a network access control module that is coupled to the protected network and which is configured to restrict access to the network to an authorized user through a computer coupled to the protected network. The system also includes a communication device associated with the computer. The communication device automatically transmits a unique identifier corresponding to the communication device to the network access control module when a user uses the communication device to request access to the protected network via the computer.

Abstract: A video coder performs a motion-compensated prediction both in the base layer and in an enhancement layer to determine motion data of the enhancement layer by using the motion data from the base layer and/or to predict sequences of residual error pictures after the motion-compensated prediction in the enhancement layer by using sequences of residual error pictures from the base layer via an intermediate layer predictor. On the decoder side, an intermediate layer combiner is used for canceling this intermediate layer prediction. Thereby, the data rate is improved compared to scalability schemes without intermediate layer prediction with the same picture quality.

This targeting may be based on information which is inaccessible to other communications protocols. The targeting also includes a time element. Information can be brought to the attention of the consumer precisely when it has become applicable, which may occur immediately upon receipt of the message, but may also occur long after the message arrives. The communications process may operate without intruding on consumers who do not exhibit the precisely-specified need for the information, and it may operate without compromising the security or privacy of the consumers who participate.

Abstract: A method is disclosed that provides an Internet wish list for deferred purchasing. A user clicks on an add to wish list button located on locations, such as, a product page, a banner ad, or search results to add an item to the wish list. A reminder system is used to remind a user to purchase an item at a future time. The shopping list service may be integrated at a high level of integration and a low level of integration. On a low level of integration a proxy platform is used to add functionality to a website.

Abstract: An ontology that is used to determine relationships between instances of objects having types. The ontology is made from a text file containing a DAML+OIL description of the ontology and includes a set of ontology objects and an accelerator that accelerates determination of the relationships. The accelerator is implemented using database tables and indexes. The ontology may be used as a data filter. A decision-centered visualization system uses the ontology to relate data items contained in event instances to task instances and to determine for a given task instance what portion of the data in the data item should be provided for display by a given task instance.

Abstract: A mechanism for transmitting metadata that contain identifying characteristics of advertisements to be inserted, details of an advertisement-spot, and targeted viewing group details as in-content descriptors to a mobile handset is disclosed. Tight synchronization and control of the display of advertisements within an advertisement-spot during wireless content transmission is thus provided.

Abstract: A separation, purification and recovery method of SF6, HFCs or PFCs is disclosed, which comprises a step for forming a gas hydrate including components in addition to SF6, HFCs or PFCs. It is possible to separate and recover fluoro-gas at a much lower cost as compared to a conventional method for thereby obtaining an economical effect and preventing an emission of SF6, HFCs or PFCs which corresponds to Non-CO2 having a higher earth warming index, which leads to preventing an earth warming phenomenon. So, the present invention might be widely applied.
